pretty views and great trail for beginner to intermediate hikers

way to over crowned its like the pumpkin spice latte of hiking.

We loved this hike today. I wish we could have finished it, but after the first few miles it got too icy to attempt in just hiking boots, so we didn’t make it to Comet Falls. The part we did was beautiful and we’d like to go back with the proper equipment. The is some snow on the trail but it would be passable if not for the ice toward the top.

Over crowded trail.

Fun short hike for a family or group looking for something easy. Old growth trees are spectacular and there's a fun suspension bridge that crosses over a stream. The old NPS interpretation signs from the 70s are a bit over the top and probably due for removal, but otherwise this is a fun, easy trail if you have a group looking for a relaxed adventure.

Amazing trees.

One of my favorites of the Seattle Tinder pic circuit. The views at the top are so so amazing and the hike is a bit challenging.

BEAUTIFUL Hike! Worth the destination AND the journey. There are three ledge lookouts. Most people just stopped at the first before turning back. It's worth hiking another 1/4 mile or so to the next two ledges. the All Trails Topo map makes it easy to find them. I went on a Thursday. There were definitely others on the trail, but not nearly as crowded as it appears to be on the weekend. If I lived in the area, this would be a reocurring hike for me.

Excellent trail, well maintained. Nice path, very gorgeous view. It was Smokey the day we completed so could have been better, but we did expect that!

Excellent trail that is great for beginners. As other reviews state it is an extremely busy trail so try to get started as early as possible to get a good spot at the top. If you are so inclined bring a trash bag to help pick up the litter, unfortunately people leave quite a lot of trash at the top.

If you're feeling froggy when you reach the lower ledge keep hiking up another mile or so and you can get to the middle ledge, which is much less crowded and offers the same amazing views. I haven't made it to the highest ledge yet but that's the goal for next time!

It was a bit crowded but well maintained and beautiful weather on the 50 degree sunny late November day.

it’s almost an hour hike to the top and 1 hour return, very beautiful on the top, but super dangerous. Totally not recommended for those who hike with kids, some people have fallen and died from the ledge, but it worth it, amazing view when you reach the ledge.

We needed more time! Almost made it to the top. We will be back!

Great trail, plenty of switchbacks to help break up the incline but plan to go earlier in the day if you want the trail to yourself because it’s pretty popular and the trail can get pretty packed.

Is amazing!

Great as long as you go early

Insanely crowded. I felt like I was in a single file line going up.

The trail itself is great, but it's heavily trafficked

The trail is nice. It’s a good scenic trail with lots of cool places to stop and take pictures. The only bad thing is it’s a popular trail. Once you get to the top, you’ll be fighting for places to stop and take a break or pictures. We went on a Saturday morning and we were at the top with about 50 other people who had the same idea as we did today. The parking lot fills fast and people started parking on the street before the parking lot. So, we’ll definitely go back on a Wednesday morning or something so it won’t be so crowded.

Great hike for all age groups. If you’re not a beginner, I’d recommend trail running as well. Breathtaking views from the cliff. You can continue further if you wish as the trail continues further. Took us 3 hours from car to car including breaks. Would highly recommend for sunrise.

Steep for kids, but amazing views and great lookout at the top. Mountain stream just over halfway up.

Very peaceful walk, hearing the sound of the river on the way out and a drop over a ridgeline into the quiet zone the way back. With the campgrounds closed and early start we were the only ones on the trail until we got back to the start. The falls make for a worthwhile destination. I look forward to coming back to see spring run off.

Extra cotton.

I've always found the hike a little boring up until the viewpoint. There are a lot of switchbacks and not a lot to see until the end. However, the view is definitely worth it! Be careful at the top!

Wonderful hike with an amazing view of Mt Rainier at the peak.

However, the main road to the trailhead is closed for the season. We did not know this. So it was an additional 5 miles from the parking lot to trailhead.

All in all an extra 10 miles, but it was worth it.

Went this morning (Saturday 10/27). Glad we got there early (~8:15) not too many people on the trail yet, but they were steadily streaming in as we left. We took ~2.5 hours with breaks at the view points. The lake isn’t really there at the moment, so the views weren’t as great, but still nice mountain shots. We thought the first big viewpoint was just as good or better than the one at the top (this may change when the lake is actually there).

Really enjoyed this moderate, well groomed climb. No one else on the trail today. Nice views and just hard enough to regret running for a bit.

Enjoyed

10/19 (Fri midday): Picture perfect views at the peak and all along the way. We had a clear, sunny, warm autumn day with no wind. Not one, but two clear blue lakes along a mostly flat trail to a short, steep climb to the peak/fire lookout and stunning Mt Rainier looming super large, so close you could almost touch. Big wow for my east coast guests. Popular hike but not overrun. All mountain hikes I know require driving a long gravel road like this route in, so not sure why everyone is so freaked out by it? Road is in great shape and well maintained, as you would expect with a back road in any National Park. Handled it in a rented Impala no problemo.

I did this during the summer and it was definitely worth it. The views when you get on top are awesome! Before you get back to your car, stop by Mowich Lake and check it out.

I hiked this trail in mid October on a foggy-turned-sunny day with a couple friends. The views were spectacular. Mt. Rainier consumes half your view when you get to the top and St. Helens is off to the west. The hike was really easy and fast so it's a great hike for a half day instead of a full day. Also, the dirt road leading to the trail is long but wide and well kept. I took my Ford Fusion up it at 25 mph no problems.
