HikingGreat!

Awesome hike, plan for a full day if you go all the way to round top. I hiked it on January 30th, in about 8 hours. Bring a headlamp if you hike in the winter.

HikingGreat!

Incredible day hike. Gorgeous views. Note that this track does not bring you up Roundtop, but it is SUPER easy to get to with broad ridgeline walking and an easy (11 minutes for us - less than 30 minutes up and down) summit of Roundtop from the start of the climb. The actual RT mileage to Roundtop and back is 10.6 miles. To get to Roundtop, just keep walking down the Blacktail Rocks ridge toward the intersecting ridge. Left hand turn and up and you'll be at the top of Roundtop in no time. Huge open area up top great for a picnic and some epic pics. When you get up toward Blacktail Rocks, Roundtop is the obviously very round mountain to the northeast. Have fun!

Awesome hike. A bit hard with the loose rock going up Blacktail itself but worth the views. Very windy- bring a light jacket or hat for the ears. Blueberries and crowberries all along the saddle between Baldy and Blacktail. With a bad knee- made it up Baldy and Blacktail and down in about 4.5 hours and 7.5 miles roundtrip.

HikingGreat!

I hiked to the high point of Black Tail Rocks but didn't have time to do Round Top. GPS said 8.2 miles round trip and about 2900' elevation gain. I did switch backs to Mt. Baldy which added some distance. The final ascent to the top at Black Tail Rocks was fairly well-defined. Steep climb but very do-able. The views were amazing with mountains in every direction.

Found black watch on backside of Blacktail from June 30 hike. based on stop watch, it was probably lost sometime after 10 a.m. Contact me through profile. Hike to Vista was great. Trail is in great shape and only small avoidable snowpack on backside of mountain. Baldy is the most strenuous part of the hike, so if you have the time and water, would recommend the trek up Blacktail for some incredible valley views.

Amazing trail! Our favorite was the flatter, easier section in the middle. Tricky scramble among the rocks to get to the very top of Round Top, but worth it for the views!

I would not recommend this for a beginner or newbie. There is a scramble at the top that seemed daunting going up but coming down was much easier. Like another reviewer said, I don’t think this map actually includes round top. Which is disappointing because we wanted to do the whole thing but ran out of water and had to stop at Black Tail. We also had a dog with us and she navigated the scramble on her own just fine.

Did this for our Solstice hike from the switchbacks in Baldy. I’ll be back to attempt summit in a few months, I hope. Got about 100ft from summit and decided I wasn’t trained enough in steep scramble to even attempt it. I could have gotten up but coming down would have been my biggest challenge. I hope to overcome my fear of coming down with exposure to more scramble. Overall great great hike with amazing views the whole darn way!

Even though there are about a hundred paths that look like a trail for the first mile, this is a very easily navigable trail with great views. Would definitely recommend if interested in a longer, steeper day of hiking

Fun trail. Minimal trees on bottom 1/3 so you’re exposed most of the hike. Overall easy trail to follow. This is listed as moderate but if you’re interested in summiting any of the peaks, there is definitely a strenuous flare for the peaks. The views are amazing from the top though! Minimal snow left and it’s all at the peaks.

Went up to black tail rocks yesterday- didn’t do round top like this trail advertises. BEAUTIFUL! Especially on a sunny, clear day... you will get tan!! Only a couple spots of pretty deep snow around 4000ft, however it isn’t that bad if you are comfortable with that. Highly recommend!

A really great hike. Should be noted that this hike doesn’t include Round Top, which you could hike to if you continue behind the peak of Black Tail and follow the ridge to the left. Went up up the front side of Baldy to start, hiked to Black Tail peak and then hiked down the backside of Baldy. My phone tracked us at 7.5 miles. Long hike, but really not too difficult. Minimal scrambling, my dog had an easy time doing this hike. She enjoyed the ground squirrels peeking out of their homes.
