BEAUTIFUL place!!! Just a little tough but well worth it. Bring plenty of water!! There are plenty of places to rest and really beautiful over looks. There is also the remains of a plane crash about a half mile from mcdill point.

Awesome hike. The first half of the trail isn’t too strenuous. However, there are parts on the second half that do get tough. It’s hard rating lived up to its name. The view at the top is absolutely worth it. My only complaint was that the trail was not marked well, so use this app to help guide you

This trail had some great nature and a surprise waterfall. it's got a great wooden walking platform over some small streams too.

This place is beautiful. It's been years since I went, but when we were there the parking area and pathways were very clear no trash ect. The walk down to the falls is easy, but getting back can be a bit of a struggle if your not used to lots of stairs. There are plenty of resting spots every so often between the staircases to rest though. Will be visiting again soon!

I will start off by saying maybe this issue was because of the government shut down and having no forest rangers. However, this trail was being used by squirrel hunters and there were people hunting right off the parking lot for the trail head. WE COULD SEE THEM SHOOTING FROM THE TRAIL HEAD! Needless to say this was a 3 hour round trip wasted because we didn’t feel safe hiking with so many (obviously irresponsible) people shooting that close to the trail.

My wife and I hike this trail on a regular basis with our two Golden Retrievers. We all love it!
There are always friendly people on the trail, and we often run into through-hikers of the Appalachian Trail
The views are fantastic!

Selected this trail since it had waterfalls and was the shortest looking trail on the map as we passed through. Did not consult AllTrails... lady at visitor center said “you know it’s 1200 steps?” And I said to myself ...”is that a lot? I can do 12k steps in a shift at work”...
What I didn’t hear was STAIRSTEPS. Lots and lots. Thank goodness for all the little landings to wait for my heart to slow back down. Well worth the journey, though!
And I agree re dogs and the grated steps... ours would not have made it very far had we brought him.

Good hard hike with the best views I have ever seen besides the grand canyon and I'm afraid of heights so couldn't get to close to the edge. Will for sure do it again! So pretty!

On top as I type.... trail in good shape, and lives up to it’s difficult rating (but I’m not use to hiking). Would definitely recommend

Great views and not too crowded on a Friday morning...definitely recommend!

This is one of my favorite trails to do soon after it rains. The sound of the river towards the beginning of the hike, paired with the altitude gained is a wonderful experience.

This trail has always been one of my favorites. If you need some kind of reward to get out and go hiking this trail is for you. The waterfalls that you can observe at this park are some of the best in the state. The fact that you can camp at Cloudland makes things even better. If you aren't in the best shape then fear not. The stairs in and out of the canyon are filled with rest stops and places to sit and rest while you enjoy they scenery.

great hike beautiful view

Great views at the top! Hikes a good challenge as well, but definitely doable!

Great hike on a wet and foggy morning. If you are hiking during the wet season, use caution. It gets slick on the rocks!

If you can’t do stairs, don’t do it. My dog had no problem getting down the stairs and she is a husky/German Shepherd mix. This isn’t my first time here but definitely do it during the winter months. I did it in June in 2016 and threw up from the heat, this time I had no problem at all. Had the falls to myself most of the time and loved it.

Too crowded for me. There were people everywhere. I like to have a little peace and quiet. The view was nice at the top. Unless you are just trying to get miles in, I would not do entire loop. I liked hiking from Bettis-Tribble Rd. Entrance. Did not like hike from Spot Rd.

Gorgeous view at the top about 4.2 miles in. The freeman trail can get a little tricky at points since some of the markers have worn off but just keep an eye out for the light blue and you’ll be fine. Took me 3.5 hours going pretty steadily and only staying at the top for about 20mins. Took me about an hour to get back to my car from the top so keep that in mind if you’re going at sunset. Would recommend a walking stick of some sort if it’s rained recently bc there are many slippery parts.

Easy short hike, kind of crowded especially at the top. The view is beautiful though! Overall a nice hike.

Great short hike with excellent views. Due to over 600 stairs, I would not people with bad knees or hips to complete this trail at Cloudland Canyon State Park.

A really special landscape and very clean. We only found two pieces of trash to pick up on the trail and both looked like they were dropped minutes before we got to them. Seeing the granite after a good rain provides nice pools in the granite but also creates a lot of water to cross on the back side of the trail behind the lake. Bring waterproof footwear!

Short, but moderate difficulty in places. No picnic tables or trash cans. People have left litter, unfortunately. Beautiful area.

good trail. if the parking lot is full next to thr trailhead you can park just down tje street but it does add an extra mile coming and going. we just did the lake trail and ended with 5.33 miles total back to the car. just beware. side note: if you are doing the lake trail, when you find the blue marker and head into the woods, just keep going to the open field. the markers in tgis area wander and back track. was very confussing to say rhe least.

Giving this a 3 star because it says dogs can use but the stairs are grated. Most dogs wont walk on the grated steps. Mine would not. I did not make it to the bottom of the falls after several stair cases and carrying a 60 lb greyhound. Decided to turn back. I wish there was a trail next to the stairs even if it was a little steep to take. Falls were beautiful from the overlook due to all the rain we have been getting.

Fun trail, but felt more like 2 miles. The first half had cool cliff/rock views and small waterfalls. The second half followed the river - due to the recent rain there were several fun jumps over the creeks adjoining the river

Great trail, get the steep stuff out of the way during the first two miles on a very clearly marked path. Second part is a more interesting trail that involves a bit more scrambling but still all clearly marked.

TOUGH run up! 2.5 to top. 2.5 back down. 4.2 is inaccurate if you follow the neon green blaze (as per Fitbit GPS which is almost pinpoint accurate for distance)

Hiking 7 hours finished. Nice view.

This trail started out pretty easy. Open woods, smooth path and easy to follow. When it starts getting into the incline is where it gets a little more difficult with a rocky path. We went on a Saturday around 11am and by the time we got back to the car it was around 1:30pm the parking lot was packed. We were also hiking with a dog. There were a lot of other dogs, some off leash and on. All and all, great hike with beautiful views. pictures uploaded

Can’t wait to go back.
