Perfect day for snowshoeing! We called it a rollercoaster trail because of the ups and downs but it was a great short hike with the pup!

A lot of fun but difficult with the snow. Shoe shoes are required

Just did this trail as a snowshoe trek. Beautiful and quiet, but you will have to cross one ski run on your way up. Lovely hike.

Really enjoyed this hike! It consists of rolling hills. I used snowshoes but probably could have just used cleats.

Great trail for a half-full day adventure the view at the top is so worth the trek. It may be a tough little hike for small kids, out of shape adults or those tourists coming from sea level so plan accordingly. I will do this one once a year now that I know its there.

This remains one of the most beautiful and rewarding hikes I’ve completed in Colorado. The incline to Ice Lakes is strenuous and steep but with plenty of shade. The wildflowers and lakes at the top are utterly stunning. Island Lake glows turquoise in sun or shade and is unfailingly photogenic. I can’t wait to go back.

Very quiet and beautiful with lots of snow

We went on Christmas Day as a family hike. We forgot our snowshoes but we’re still able to walk it. My parents felt there was a lot of up, but it’s worth it!! In the snow it took us 1 hour 45 minutes to get up. It only took 45 minutes to get down. We stopped frequently to get pictures and catch our breath.

Overall a beautiful hike and the falls are absolutely gorgeous! They were frozen over and it was spectacular to see.

I hike this trail system, including this route, regularly. Iconic view of Mt Sopris and very easy access to TH

Beautiful!

Frisco trailhead to the lake and back. Absolutely gorgeous snowshoe hike. Met two moose on the way.

Fun little hike. Great views nice weather.

This is not easy if you are not in shape. I was ok but a relative was not. It’s a beautiful hike with an ending at a snow covered lake!

Great hike on Thanksgiving Day. Went up to the falls and a bit beyond but there wasn’t a clearly defined trail and my GPS wasn’t cooperating so instead of snowshoeing our way around, we just turned back. Beautiful day to hike. Traction devices for your boots would be helpful but not completely needed. Snowshoes would certainly be necessary to reach the lake.

Went yesterday, their is a path from others but lots of snow on the ground. The lake is completely frozen but was still super peaceful and relaxing.

Had a blast but more people have to pay attention to the leash law. I do and it annoys me that others don't.

Awesome Trail! Started out with no snow- ended up in a foot of snow at the lake. For a beginner hiker from Texas, I had to make quite a few stops to catch my breath, but I made it to the lake in a couple of hours. It is a STRAIGHT UP hike the whole way, but the scenery is gorgeous!!

hiked this on Saturday 10/27 with a friend and puppy. we are in shape, but took our time. 3.5 miles round trip in an hour and 45 minutes. great views at start and end along with shadowy fields of pine trees. limited parking at wildernest start on a weekend.

Gorgeous little area, nice view from the top! Had my blood pumping but was still easy for sure.

This is not easy!!! This trail should be marked as moderate. With that being said, it was spectacular! Very well marked. We didn’t get to the lake because we reached 10,300 ft and looked down...the hike was too strenuous at that point to continue. Would love to do it again with more time and in better shape.

Super easy hike. Gorgeous views!

Amazing hike! incredible views the entire time! such a fun trail, will definitely be back! The trailhead road is pretty average, a little bumpy but it's not bad. The hike itself is pretty perfect. I would say its moderate, a few inclines but nothing extreme. Some snow at the top meow, it's beautiful.

As of 10/28/2018, the trail is almost totally clear of snow, except for a very small patch nearing the end. At a slow pace, took me about 80 minutes to hike to the lake. Agree with Janis that there has been quite a bit of devastation, most notable in the first half of the trail. You will see many dead and fallen trees. This makes the view, especially to the south wide open. There is also a cutthrough to Piney Lake if you want to hit both trails in the same day (I had already done Piney). This was also suggested to me as a trailrun or bike route (trail itself in excellent condition).

Great Hike - trails are snowpacked up high, there are steep trail sections that are snowpacked and icy. Bring your yaktrax. Almost made it to the lake by my partner forgot her sunglasses and didn't want to risk getting snow blind up high due to the wide open areas of snow we had to cross - bluebird day - high sun. Either way - great hike. Would do it again in fall. A lot of climbing right out of the lot, actually climbing all the way. Fun Hike - bring water and some snacks as you'll burn a ton of calories climbing

Really steep beginning after that the steepness levels out somewhat. It’s definitely a trek with a pack. It’s a beautiful hike and great fishing in the lake. Many places to camp and there are other lakes nearby

Hiked on 10/27. Doable for sure but lots of snow— wish I would have had spikes but can be carefully done without. If you have gaiters use them. My feet were soaked.

I was plenty warm with a long sleeve and puffy vest.

The directions lead you to trailhead accurately.

I went on past ice lake but could not make it to island lake as the tracks stop right now due to snow.

I’m 34 and in good shape and it took me about 2:45 to get to ice lake. I also drank near 5L of water. Totally epic views if you follow tracks up about another 500-800 feet of vert— about 1/2 mile distance.

Worthwhile! Great lunch spot followed by a rewarding and short walk. We didn’t make it to the end- just did the loop and still lots to see.

Climbed this one today. And when I say climbed, that's no lie. 95% of the trail is snow covered, with the last 1,000 feet requiring some basic mountaineering skills. Post holing, searching for different routes from the trail (it's disappeared under the snow and you have to post hole all the way up), thigh-deep snow in certain areas. Don't get me wrong - it's breathtaking at the top, but it took some effort to get there. My companion said this was Mt Rainier summit day minus ice axes and crevasses. Spikes, gaiters all recommended. Snow shoes might even come in handy if you're willing to bring them. But I loved it. So, the work aside, it's worth the hike.

Breath-taking in more ways than one and our favorite hike on our honeymoon. The 'difficult' rating is no joke for low-elevation folk like we are, but it was worth the sweat. Above the treeline it's like Tolkien county, a different world than our Minnesota. We hiked on a Sunday in late September; we started early - around 7:30 - and only ran into a few other hikers. It was much busier on the descent.

Spectacular in the glacial cirque. Snow above the falls but followed the footprints and used poles. It was 5 miles to the lake - not sure why All-Trails map says 4.4. We hiked on 10/26 and saw no one above the falls.
