Great for the whole family, a lovely sightseeing opportunity without too much work. A bit busy though, and pushy tourists to avert, but a great time nevertheless!

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape photographer.

The trail is rated as easy and that is accurate. There are a few muddy spots so hiking boots are recommended. I'm 62 and had no trouble with the hike. But be aware that I didn't complete the entire loop. I found a beautiful spot for photography on the east bank and I stopped after getting the picture I wanted.
This a trail that requires some patience. I started at the lodge and the trail is a bit difficult to find. Also, the lodge area is madhouse with tour buses dumping off 50-60 people at a time and there must have been 200+ milling around. Quickly leave the lodge area by walking east and you'll come to the trail.

The photography is frustrating at first because the trail doesn't run adjacent to the lake but is up the ridge and the view is obstructed by trees. But after a mile or so the trail is right beside the lake and you'll notice small herd paths that give you outstanding views of the lake. If you are there in late summer or early fall the sun will be to your left so you won't be shooting into it. If you can try to go early in the morning since the winds my be calm and you can get some outstanding reflections in the lake.

Most people only see the upper falls which are a very short walk from the parking area. The lower falls are also very beautiful and worth a visit. The trail to the lower Sunwapta Falls is not particularly scenic until you approach the end as it does not provide views of the river. It can be a bit steep in certain places as well.

Was September when we visited so no swimming or cliff diving... much too cold too that!

As a simple short hike it wasn't terrible... but there are so many great trails in the area this one may be better left to those who want to get in the water, weather permitting.

Beautiful view, and the falls are incredible every time I see them.

The falls are incredible. The walkway gets very close to the falls at several places. Powerful and loud. The walk itself is on a paved path with several stairs. Very close to the road, very easy to get to.

The Falls are a definite must see if you go to Jasper.

Such a nice surprise! We didn’t even put these falls on our itinerary and I’m so glad someone said they were a must see. We were there in the morning and it was a beautiful chilly day. So pretty walking around and seeing the different views. Great for all ages and all activity levels!

Easy hike for all ages. This hike was more picturesque than Lake Louise and slightly less people. However, Banff needs to work on its crowd control and parking. Not the place to spend a lot of time if crowds bother you.

Got here at 7:30 and got into the parking lot without any problems. Very easy hike, and worth visiting. The lake is so beautiful.

Arrived early evening, not too many people were around but would be very busy in the middle of the day. Great viewpoint for almost no effort.

Arrived late afternoon, not many people were around, and most of those who were didn't bother going down to the lower falls section. Would probably be very busy during the day. Nice and easy walk, good for a stop off while driving the highway.

easy viewpoint

This was our first full day in Banff National Park (Aug 17th) and got a later start than we’d like, but decided to visit Lake Moraine and begin our hiking adventures with an easy hike in preparation for the rest of our stay. Parking: of course no parking is available after 7am, but easy enough to catch the shuttle bus at the overflow parking at 11:30. The 10 min ride or so drops you off at the Rock Pile overlooking the lake. The lakeshore trail was easy and offered beautiful views of the turquoise water and had a waterfall at the end of trail. Unfortunately the views of the mountains were distorted by the smoke from ongoing fires in British Columbia but we still enjoyed the beauty and look forward planning another trip in hopes of clearer skies. Took about an hour with lots of other ca and a stop to eat a sandwich on the trail overlooking lake. We were there about 2 hours including a climb to the top of Rock Pile to take more pictures! Gorgeous place!

Relatively busy and has lots of fencing.

This is not a hike. It’s an easy walk along a paved road/sidewalk. That being said, the waterfall is stunning and the walk along the river in one direction and the walk along the canyon in the other direction are both beautiful as well. Good for families with little kids or elderly people. The main part is handicap accessible

Not a hike more of a short walk, visit early in the day as lots of tour buses stop here.

Jam packed with tourist but still beautiful

Just a walk along the lake, good for chilling, the lake is beautiful :) came there at 5am to have a parking spot and get the sunrise, worth the short night!

This was a really beautiful and easy walk. Although the beginning shoreline gets crowded, especially near the Rock Pile, not too many venture out onto the trail itself. Peaceful views and beautiful forest.

If you want to park, get here early, like 5:30 am. The parking is full at 6:00, though it empties out somewhat after dawn.

Great view of the shoreline and the stunning blue water and mountains.

It is a beautiful lake. A babbling little stream beside the trail and trees. I felt like a fairy was coming out.

Beautiful hike, very easy. We started early and it was awesome. Trail gets crowded later in the day.
We extended the hike to a second lake, which was a really nice walk. We followed the brochure and the signs. I think it was an additional 6 kms.

There was quite a crowd at the parking lot and upper falls, but only a small number of people walk the easy trail to the lower falls. Definitely worth the extra time to go down there and check it out. Don't stop at the bench when you get there - keep walking a bit more to see even more!

So easy but such beautiful views throughout that you’ll want to make the trip. Don’t stop until you get to the very end with the waterfall!

Spectacular views throughout. Very straightforward and easy hike and you will likely stop numerous times. Be warned though very popular with tourists and accessing the site by car can be a challenge even before 7am! It’s worth it though to see this site and do this simple hike
