Absolutely glorious hike, the views at the bottom are absolutely stunning. The trail was icy till about halfway down. If you make it like 300ft past the chain, you're golden.
Amazing beauty and peace...
Perfect conditions in April. Dry all the way. No mud or snow left. Bring wind layer since a large part is exposed.
Beautiful, short and well kept trail. Dogs loved it. Moderate due to lots of inclines but nothing too steep. Only saw one other hiker. Will come back later in the summer when it’s greener.
Trail was snowed over. Absolutely recommend microspikes - we saw a group attempting the hike without them and they were having a hard time. Amazing views.
Trail is snowed/iced over for 85% of the hike. Microspikes are a must. Scree wash near the bottom was 100% scramble in full sun, muddy and no snow at that point. Absolutely worth the effort! Hike took 8 hours total, as we took our time making sure to get good footing in the icy conditions. Jeremy at Visitor Center was extremely informative and helpful.
Gorgeous trail, absolutely still need microspikes or crampons right now, and poles honestly.
Good trail and worth the hike over to the Pinnacles if you drive Hwy 50 often - it'll give you a whole new perspective if the area. Trail is in great condition and appears to be most used by horses. Terrain was slightly exposed so I'd avoid if storms are around.
Trail was still snow covered with a narrow well packed trail with a couple feet of loose snow on each side. Steep and icy in spots. Would not do this trail without micro spikes. Great view from the overlook at the bottom!!
Awesome hike in the snow n ice covered trail. Def recommend, spikes or snow shoes not needed just solid hiking boots and good hiking stick
Easy trail to follow, pretty views. Perfect for an afternoon hike.
Nice trail with some cool views along the way. Last section of trail down to the river is a bit of a rock scramble, harder to follow, and slick in areas. Just a heads up. :)
Cool easy little trail! close to the visitors center
Beautiful. Snow and sun the whole time.
This is a tough climber in snow shoes. Beautiful but hard with all the snow and altitude.
Little bit of snow the night before, after several days of warm weather. First section down to the river was frozen solid/slippery and a bit sketchy in the morning but very doable with good sturdy boots. Several slightly sketchy sections further down but not as difficult. Otherwise really great hike if you don’t have a lot of time!
Amazing trail! Arrived around 11am on Saturday and quite a few parking spaces left. Started with spikes and fairly quickly switched to snowshoes. Very nice day the lake at the top was beautiful!
Excellent snowshoe trip. Short 4.6 miles but pure gain. An incredible workout with an amazing deep powdery trail in a beautiful forest. The lower lake was so pretty but really windy. We bushwhacked part way to the upper lake but turned around due to avalanche risk. All in all a great day!
Beautiful hike! Definitely bring spikes if you don’t want to slip and slide. Have seen some deer on the trail which was cool.
