A must hike trail which covers 2 lakes and a beautiful glacier. This hike is scenic through and through. I have hiked close to 100 trails in 20 National parks and this is my favorite of all.

HikingGreat!Snow

Breathtaking views. We went in August and my oldest son and I wore Chacos and shorts. This ended up being a huge fail because there was a ton of snow at Logan‘s pass and by the time we finish the hike, our toes were frozen. It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget. The views like most of Montana were amazing! Lots of wildlife and unpredictable weather. Be prepared. Sun, snow and hail in August. It is usually a busy trail, though due to COVID there were not many people.

It’s a terrific trail. First forrest, then lake side, then up! It’s relatively easy getting up, but expect wet shoes and slippery rock from the mini waterfalls on the way up. I saw someone fall. It’s great at the top. Don’t feed the wildlife! They’re good without your snacks. But you may see some.

Did this during a hailstorm in 2019. Tons of people as expected. Beautiful views, but as with most things in Glacier, too many people to relax. Best of luck finding a parking spot.

Cross country skied from lodge and for about the first 2 miles it was really icy, little snow making it tough to ski. Could see the road in some spots. The actual trail at avalanche had snow but did not need snow shoes at all. Some icu spots and walking piles would be helpful. Beautiful views and no people. Total 6miles skiing each way & 2 each way on avalanche trail. Total of 16. January 2021

One of the best trails in the park. Although be aware some of the trail will close during bear season.

Did this trail back in June 2019. Incredible diversity within a few miles of hiking, not only topography but weather. The payout at the lake is well worth the hike! Late June and multiple wall falls cascading down the mountains!

Moderate hike, heavily trafficked for good reason. Stunning views of Avalanche lake, you have to get in!

Beautiful weather back in August when I did this with a couple friends. Narrow trail and heavily trafficked. Was an overall tough hike, especially the last half mile up to the glacier. Encountered a group of rams who refused to move off of the trail for a good while, I suppose we are the intruders... Definitely do this hike before you die...

One of my favorite hikes ever! went in july and had to cross some small snow fields and the trail was closed beyond the overlook due to bear activity. saw lots of mountain goats and marmots, views were absolutely incredible. get there as early as possible for parking!!

HikingMuddy

We started the trail back at the lodge for fear of not being able to find parking at the actual trailhead making this hike about 16 miles. Well worth it. Nice and shaded. *note* we hiked this this past July and had great weather! Some of the best parts of the trail weren’t even the lake itself. Like with every hike in glacier I couldn’t get over how clear the water is. Trail was busy, would recommend getting their as early as possible. The lake would make for a great mid morning snack!

Went back in September when the weather was perfect. Heavily trafficked but for a reason. Go up and see the Glacier. Best view in the park. Elevation on the hike isn’t all that bad, but 16 miles (glacier hike included) is what will get you. Do this before you die.

Hiking

Although this trail is inside of Glacier National Park, it is an unofficial trail. When I went last fall, there were no signs marking the trailhead, so use your alltrails map or ask another hiker. We only saw two other groups on the trail during our entire hike. It was nice to find something not so heavily trafficked. We decided not to climb up to the very top, only because winds were very high and it didn't feel safe to continue. Some other time. I did this trail while traveling across the country in my converted minivan. Feel free to follow my instagram for photos of this hike and many more @myraninavan

Nature tripsGreat!

I loved this Trail. It was a pretty easy hike. The entire trail was filled with beautiful views and scenery. Avalanche creek had the bluest water I have ever seen and the lake was beautiful.

Completed in August* Some of the best views the entire hike! Definitely challenging but the beauty the entire way out and back are well worth it, the last mile is intense but doable! All other hikes will pale in the comparison to this. Bring lots of water, filters and snacks! Highly recommend and will complete whenever in the area!
