This hike was awesome in the fall! The colors were incredible (check out my pics), but the weather was a little iffy with sideways rain/wind. September was the perfect time with gorgeous fall colors. In October or later, I'd expect knee deep snow.

Easy hike that ends at cool suspension bridge. Dog was a bit spooked by the bridge but with some good treats and encouragement, she did it.

This trail is nowhere near the 6.9 miles listed on this website. Two independent GPS devices measured it as 2.7 or 2.6 miles one way. So 5.4 or 5.6. Nice flat wide trail easy for kids.

Easy hike. Some dead trees across the trail, but easy to navigate over or around. Lots of burned area, but the fall foliage makes up for the lack of canopy. Very beautiful, easy hike

The hike itself is flat and runs along private property for about half of it. The hot spring is more of a warm spring and had broken glass in it. You will leave feeling like you need a shower stat! We blogged about it if anyone is interested in reading more: https://practicalvagabonds.com/upper-potosi-hot-spring/

Amazing, wish we would have come to this trail first. It's definitely worth it.

You get to see water for most of the hike, the trail also starts out paved.

View from the bridge is also spectacular.

Awesome trail, long hike but gradual climb. We stayed two nights at upper cedar lake and enjoyed the views from Dome Mountain.

Edge of the ‘Rice ridge fire’ looks different than a few years ago.

This is a really great trail especially now with fall colors! Trail wasn’t very crowded but has some spectacular views! Both lakes are really cool and you can continue to a third if you please! Lots of camping room by the lake as well! Follow all our adventures on Instagram @themicrotourists.

Excellent hike that’s fairly easy.. you hike through burned out sections of forest due to the Rice Ridge Fire last year. It is definitely a glimpse of nature’s life cycles. The payoff at the end is a stunning waterfall! Great day hike!

Beautiful moderate hike. Good camping by lake.as well

Easy hike. Moderately used. We only tracked 5.8 miles. The waterfall was beautiful

The directions on here were wrong for me. They took me up an old logging road which ended up being closed when you can just go straight into superior and follow the signs off the exit to the trailhead. Getting to heart is easy and then getting to pearl and dalton is a little more intense. Heart to pearl trail is a little overgrown. Keep on the trail going around pearls and the trail to dalton is very visible. I did this as a day hike. Had some fish nibbles in heart, skipped fishing and pearl, and had big fish nibbling and jumping at Dalton.

Beautiful trail. last mile in was the hardest, but with a few switchbacks it makes it very doable!! We base camped at heart lake 3 days and took day hikes up to Pearl lake and Dalton lake, and also to the state line ridge and hidden lake! it was Absolutely beautiful all of it! We camped at the south eastern end of the lake. Awesome spot!! fresh water near camp and goats to entertain us....although they did get abit too curious! Just had to clap and stomp and they scared away...

Easy short walk to Diamond lake and an easy hike up to Cliff lake with just a little bit of elevation gain. The trail is very nice with a couple bridges along the way. Cliff lake is amazing. The water is beautiful and the backdrop is stunning.

Such a beautiful, shaded hike. Will hike this trail, again and again.

Beautiful, rained the entire way but still so beautiful

great hike for kids!

We came in late at night. There are two entrances, the first one leads to open space for bigger RV's, parking for day hikers, and the road to one side of the campground. The second entrance is to more campsites along the creek, where we ended up moving to the next morning. This place is beautiful!! We followed a trail along the creek for a bit that was a quick easy hike. There is another hike, 303(?), across the main road that leads up 900 ft to a vista of the valley according to the camphost.

The hot springs are an easy hike about a mile. We went twice, once in the afternoon which had more people in and out, and in the morning with just us. We spent some "au natural" time in the springs. The temps are not extremely hot more like a bath or hot tub at best. We thoroughly enjoyed the springs!

The main road leads back to more marked campsites and a fork pointing to Bell Lake or Granite Lake. We went up towards Granite Lake. The road is rough and slow going and we never did reach the lake after taking a side road and coming to a field to turn around. We did see an ATV going up the road presumably to the lake.

I recommend this campground and hot springs!

Hiked this trail in late spring. the falls were raging. very pretty and my dog loved the lake.

Beautiful hike, pretty easy. My old St. Bernard handled it well with nice lakes to stop at for him to cool off. A lot of char from fires last year but still super pretty. Falls are worth every step.

felt longer than it was. aside from steep downhill beginning, mostly gradual up and down. lots of timber, so no views from trail. fished, no luck. couple campsites & fire rings next to lake. pretty lake. would be good for a trail bike too.

Most definitely ‘moderate’ — not ‘hard’. It’s all a steady gradual climb in beautiful forest: lots of shade, stream always close by, beautiful flowers and mushrooms. To me it was all about the journey up and less about the lakes at the end. I should say, lake views were tainted by recent/on-going wildfire smoke. Bottom line: if you’re in the area, DO IT! Totally worth a day of your life!!

Awesome hike. Make sure you don’t stop at the upper lake and make the extra hike up the ridge overlooking both lakes, the views are totally worth it.

If not for the length I’d say it’s a moderate trail, there are very few painfully steep sections and most of it is just a long gradual climb that isn’t bad on the knees. However, I definitely felt it in my legs afterwards so the Hard designation is probably accurate.

Great hike! Mostly flat trail with a lake along the way and a pretty waterfall at the end. Low traffic and we got the waterfall area to ourselves.

This hike was amazing!!! It’s a very quick and easy hike up to heart lake (I am not a super frequent backpacker and weigh around 200lb so REALLY it’s an easy hike) the beginning is pretty much 2.5 miles of flat with about a 1/2 mile of elevation gain and then maybe another 1/2 mile to the lake. there are plenty of camping sights, we stayed at one at the very end that was fantastic. There are lots of mountain goats so pee far away from camp unless you want big, white, huffing visitors in the night. Great spot for first time backpackers or for a day hike. 10/10 planning to go back soon.

P.S. the map that this site gives you through google is kind of crazy. I would recommend just googling the hike, every other site recommends I-90 exit 47 for superior onto diamond match road and then you follow that 30miles to the hike, much easier!

8/7-8/9/18. Easy hike, 30 pound pack made it more moderate. Beautiful trail that is well maintained. Stayed at Heart lake for 2 nights, lots of great campsites. Day hiked to Pearl, its not as pretty as Heart. The Mt. Goats were awesome!! Had 7 of them come into our campsite, not aggressive, just hung out for a little bit. Lots of little furry creatures, my dog finally caught her chipmunk. Not too busy during the week. Bugs weren't too bad with spray. The hike to Pearl is easy to miss it goes straight up from the trail, if you hit the marshy section you've gone to far. It was only about .5 mile from Heart. 2 fitbits logged 4 miles to the site we camped. Only 1.5 miles to hit Pearl and back. 9ish miles total for both lakes.

This was a great flat hike, there was some elevation as you approach the waterfall but easy for little kids to hike. The scenery to the waterfall was not so pretty due to the forest fire from 2017 but the end of the trail was well worth the hike. I found some mushrooms and new growth along the way

Has a haunting beauty due to the fire that ravaged it last year. Still absolutely worth doing!! The water fall is a real treat.

Great hike!
