Our favourite family friendly hike. We do it every year.

Go early. Easy hike, i was really hungover and managed fine haha. It's mostly in the trees and the ink pots are pretty cool so it's worth doing. Make sure you get an ice cream from the little shed when you return from the hike, cheapest you'll find around Banff!!

Nice accessible hike to a great lake. Great for beginners, the trail is a bit uninteresting along the way, but the lake is worth it.

This was a fun beautiful hike. We kept going and saw a lot of fantastic waterfalls and views.

The canyon was really cool, but crowded. There were lines by each of the falls viewpoints to wait to take your picture (about 2pm weekday), and some folks seemed completely oblivious to moving with the flow of traffic on the narrow walkways. Once you get past the upper falls, the crowd thins out a ton and it's a nice quiet hike to the ink pots. They were pretty cool and the surrounding views were nice, but if you're limited on time, I wouldn't consider the ink pots portion of the hike a must-see. Definitely go up to the upper viewpoint though.

Very nice to sit and enjoy a cup of tea at the top while taking in our beautiful surroundings. We got to the top at 8am and crowds weren't an issue at all yet, but it was pretty packed by the time we left. We continued up to the big beehive - even if you don't want to hike all the way up, I highly recommend walking around to the other side of the lake - the view looking back at the teahouse is really pretty

Gorgeous hike, steady uphill into the Cirque the amazing views around the loop. Option to go higher/farther into the Cirque. Lots of people, we started at 11, and by 1230 the parking lot was overfilling

This was a good hike. We did this with our two boys (10&8), and our pup. It wasn’t to long but long enough for an evening hike.

Great trail to do with the kids. We had a nice sunny spot for a picnic once we reached the falls.

great trail

Great for a short first hike with family and dogs!

Nice hike. The lake views are spectacular and the tea house is delishious! Bring cash for a snack.
Bit steep in some places but not bad.

The first bit is very crowded. Get there early to avoid the people and the full parking lot. The falls are beautiful though!
Once you get past the upper fall, it clears out. There are many switchbacks but the ink pots are a unique place to visit! Very cool place. We had lunch here then returned.

Nice hike but it was kind of late when we get there

We were inspired by a young lady who went all through the inkpots with crutches. We did the hike again after two years and the inkpots were much more beautifulthis year due to the amount of rain! It is a beautiful hike.

This is one of my favourite hikes in Banff.
Rockbound Lake is a must see..

Very busy. It's a nice walk that you will enjoy.

Nice views, not too long for family with children.

This is my favourite hike in the Rockies. The hike to the lake is a well maintained path with a reasonable incline until you reach the alpine valley leading back behind castle mountain. Once you reach the valley, the trail flattens out and you'll meander your way back toward the lakes. The first lake is tiny, and not the real prize of the day. Snap some pics, and then continue to follow the trail up the headwall. This is the only "challenging" part of the hike, but in two switch backs you'll be above the headwall and basically at the foot of the lake. Views of the peaks on all sides are very impressive, and will make you feel tiny against the towering sheer cliff faces. It's worth making the lap around the lake, but you will need to be a bit careful to pick your way around the boulders on the south side. Also, bring a bathing suit and go for a dip! It's very rewarding and a great secluded beautiful spot in the park.

A few other tips:
- I've hiked to Rockbound a handful of times, and I appreciate it more toward the middle or end of August once the bugs have passed and the snow is melted. I've been once on Canada Day and the bugs were awful.
- There's a little stream in the woods on the east side of the parking lot. A great place to cool your feet at the end of the day.

Great short hike. Weather was around +14 and a little Smokey our. I arrived at 9:45am and there was plenty of parking available, the hike was not busy until on our way back. Then it got busy and the parking lot was full. Took it slow as I had my puppy with me. It took us about 2 hours to complete with breaks.

Love this hike. We do it annually, preferably in the fall when the tourist season slows down. It’s worth the trek to the ink pots. Take a pic nic and plan on enjoying the view at the top for a while. I don’t recommend taking kids that need to be carried all the way to the top. The upper falls is fine for kids. Can get very busy on summer weekends making climbing and parking tough if you go mid day.

We made it up to the tea house.. nice trail for family fun.. slippery when wet/snow but we have a lot of unforgettable experiences

So beautiful, even in snowy spring!

Great hike! Went with kids ranging from 3-12. Beautiful scenery and worth the small grind at the beginning.

Wonderful scenery but very busy.

Great hike with lots of different things to see. Took a few breaks for pictures, lunch and enjoy the scenery. The hike is quite easy but the distance adds a bit of a challenge if you’re not ready. The area by the land slide is a little challenging as well so be prepared. Went and sat by the lake to cool off after we were done. Will definitely do it again!

Did this hike on July 14 2018. The hike up took only 30min and the view of Banff was nice. To be honest, I would never do it again unless someone in my group really wanted this off their bucket list.

I actually saw a jogger train on this hike and the hike itself isn't really challenging. I wouldn't have put this hike as moderate. Saw lots of older people complete this hike and it can be done with any skill level as long as you pace yourself.

FWIW, the sign said it is normally completed in 1-2hrs.

Fun walk/hike! It’s paved most the way past the waterfalls before it turns to stairs and then into a trail. Would be great for people not huge on hiking but enjoys nature. Can be quite crowded and sometimes you must wait before you can start walking on the bridge just due to the sheer volume of other people. We tried to get to Mystic Junction through this trail for an overnight camping trip but only made it as far as Jo 9. Still an amazing journey!

We arrived later than we wanted to but got to Lake Louise around 930. We saw that the signs said parking full but decided to check it out anyway. Mistake. We ended up driving to the area but ended up being directed out back to the shuttle bus area. Even if someone had left they still don’t let you in, so don’t even try. By the time we got to the shuttle area even that was close to capacity and I think we got the last spot. Definitely get there way earlier than that. Shuttle had a lot of people but it does go pretty fast. They keep a lot of buses going through. I didn’t feel crowded going up the hike at this time of day but noticed a lot more traffic after lunch coming up when we were headed down, it took us about 1 1/2 to get up. It was a lot more inclined than I expected. I see reviews about it being good for families but I thought it would be very strenuous bringing young children up. When we got to the tea house we saw a line up which we expected. We noticed a sign that said to the left line up for take out and to the right table service. We went to the right but someone did accuse us of bumping the line, I guess he didn’t read the sign. Some issue there. We did get a table inside but it was super hot and it should have been renamed the sweat box. We sat and waited a bit with no service and decided it was way too hot to stay inside and eat later at Lake Louise. We did try to use the washrooms but they do only have two outhouses and that was a giant wait as well. We waited on that as well. We continued the hike the next 1 km to little bee hive and that was a nice walk that didn’t take long. The next hike to big bee hive was straight up the mountain so we decided it was far enough. The temp outside was 30 so we didn’t have enough energy to continue. Walking back down was way easier and faster although be careful about tripping. Enjoyable to eat at Lake Louise and enjoy the view. It is an excellent hike but bring lots of water and take your time and rest when you need. I would do it again absolutely.
