Great trail, well kept, cool amongst the trees, great views of the big lake. Downhill all the way in, uphill all the way out. Pretty quick hike, we were done by mid morning

Beautiful pools and rock. Trail is shaded. Worth the drive. Turn at the bridge closed sign near the refuge

Loved this hike! Fantastic views despite the smokey haze. There is definitely work on the way back; mostly uphill. I was sweating and got a leg workout for sure. Good fun!

Beautiful trail! The beginning wanders along the creek and provides shade and cool temps under the forest foliage. Plentiful waterfalls soothe ears and eyes. Later, the hike goes uphill. For those who feel tentative on hills, hiking poles might be helpful. The many interpretative signs tell the story of Ed Pulaski and western wildfires.

Great hike for an active family. Our 6 year old loved it.

Great trail!
If we went again (which we will be), I'd definitely bring more water/CamelBaks because it gets steep and HOT! Worth the climb though with the beautiful little waterfalls and wildlife all around. There's plenty of spots to take a rest every quarter mile or so, but PLEASE pick up after yourself!! I can't believe how much trash we picked up along the way.

An easy walk. I recommend going in spring when the falls are really raging!

NOT easy trail and confusing to follow with lots of little trails to follow. No lake views but pretty meadows. Got off trail a few times so glad I had GPS map to guide us.

This hike is a quick one but don’t let the short distance fool you, it was intense due to the elevation change. Nothing that can’t be tackled with a few water breaks to take in the view though. A pretty great swimming area & a few picnic tables await successful hikers at the trails end. I look forward to doing it again!!

Beautiful easy trail to hike. The map on All Trails leads you shy of the trailhead by about a mile. Once you hit the lake the trail continues around the lake, however it is not well maintained at this point.

This hike offers a variety of gorgeous lake scenery at the finish and a few stunning views of the surrounding mountains along the way. One of my favorite day hikes in the area.

I only clocked 2 miles so perhaps I missed something. Beware of the wasp nest, the stinging nettle and SO MANY BUGS. Otherwise pretty trail. The creek was great for the pup and the water is ICE COLD. Nothing too spectacular to note though. Would be a great trail for kiddos!

The hike up was rough to go over all the big rocks with heavy packs on... especially with younger kids and knee injuries in the group. However, on the way down, we discovered there is a trail that is about 75% dirt flagged with red marking tape on the downhill side of the rock field. MUCH easier! It’s only the first few hundred yards from the parking lot that you can’t really avoid the rocks. The lake was awesome!!!

Nice quick trail. Fairly well maintained, pleasant scenery including meadows and obscured lake views. Parking lot and bathroom at the bottom.

Several forks, be sure to keep on the main trail unless you want a longer hike. Currently its marked with blue diamonds.

7/4/18 great hike awesome place family had a good time.God bless the USA happy birthday America!!!

Beautiful hike; the workout is on the way back. Would have been nice to be able to sit on a beach once we got to the water but the water level is too high right now.

I am giving this trail a 5 even though we hiked in April, so we didn't make it to the end due to too much snow for our group. The trail was beautiful along the creek, and I would agree that it is well maintained. We still encountered more people than I was expecting, so I can imagine this trail is fairly busy when the conditions are more favorable. I can't wait to do this trail in full some day.

After having made the hike on June 12th and walking on a lot of snow, I was surprised yesterday when we hiked in to the lake and encountered no snow anywhere. The lake level was down about a foot from the month before.

My favorite trail so far. Absolutely beautiful, serene and peaceful. Even the burned trees added to the magic.

Closed July 11-Aug 2. ☹️

We truly enjoyed this hike. Yes, it is uphill on the way back but depending on your fitness level it's not too bad. The beach is nice and if you walk a little down from the trail there is a camp site you can relax on. Overall, beautiful hike.

One of the best trails we've been on in Idaho! Well maintained, scenic and historic. Worth the drive.

Great trail with rich history, very tough people back in those days, I love the hike, and hope to try to do it once every year

Good hike. Beautiful area. Trail is well traveled and easy to follow.

Great little hike. Very little snow and the path is well marked. The lake is a bit high making the loop trail hard to follow.

6/24/18 Road has been cleared of fallen trees and is passable. Requires a high clearance vehicle as the last mile or so gets a little rough. Hiked up to Hunt Lake starting at 7am, rocks were a little slick but snow free besides a few easily avoided pockets. After hitting the lake we went around to the west side and headed up the stream to the pass between Fault lake and Hunt mostly covered in snow. Part way we traversed back north on boulder fields towards Gunsight Peak. Went up the saddle just to the south and continued along the ridge. There were a few sections with a bit of exposure that required technical climbing and scrambling. After a few false summits on the ridge we made it to Gunsight Peak. Amazing weather and views. Took a more direct route down talus and avalanche chutes with a little bushwhack back to Hunt Lake. Good times!

One of the prettiest trails I’ve ever been on
