Snow packed conditions but easily completed with hiking boots, wore my spikes on the way back down which provided better traction. Nice view at the Pass, tried to complete the Midnight Peak trail but the snow was deep so I turned around near the peak.

Breathtaking views from the top! Today was a beautiful day with no wind. Definitely would do again!

The trail goes through the woods until the last kilometer, where it opens up. The snow on the path was compacted due to previous hikers. Standing under the shadow of Castle mountain the view towards the rest of the Rockies. Beautiful.

A lot of snow over the past few days in the area but trail is now packed to the lookout. We used Snowshoes and definitely recommend due to the amount of snow. Great views and the best trail length for an afternoon in the mountains. Would do again for sure!

Nice quick loop with very little elevation. Not great views but an amazing forest walk. Very little snow and ice. I used micro spikes for maybe a fifth of the hike. Definitely passable without spikes, but slippery.

Brought the pups and we had a great time. the trail is packed down, I wore my spikes on the top half where it got icy but my partner didn't and he was fine. it was pretty windy at the top but nice and calm while within the treeline. took up 50 min up, 35 min down.

We hiked this trail on the 1st of January 2019. The whole trail was covered with packed snow and we could easily walk up without crampons. The last 300m or so is the ridge above the treeline (the section where you see the last turn) where it's windy and there are rocks. The view is nice from there for sure. On the way down we used the crampons. Overall this is a nice, moderately easy hike. Definitely good for ages 6 and above.

Absolutely beautiful at the top! Views are a bit foresty until then. Very cold at the top as well, and windy.

Well-marked, good trail for both snowshoes and microspikes given conditions.

nice and easy hike. I had my spikes on so no problems with all the ice but my companion hiker was slipping and sliding a handful of times cause he didn't bring any spikes. The top of the "summit" was dry and the deeper you get into the valley the snowier it was. no need for snowshoes right now!

It was a nice hike a easy first but but then it’s switch backs all the way up the side of a mountain.

Hiked this trail yesterday. Was a bit icy in spots, definitely bring some yaktrax with you. The views were mainly obscured by forest, so that was a bit disappointing. Not well marked in the very beginning, but after that, easy to follow. Lots of fat bikes out, so keep your eyes peeled.

Did this hike last weekend with a friend and my dog and the last review summed it up perfectly. There were a lot of fat bikers, but not too much that made the trail a nuisance. Also, all of them that we came across were extremely nice and always let us know if there were more bikes or not.

There were a ton of cross country skiers in the area (I’m sure typical for the weekend), and didn’t have any issue. Although we did have someone at the end almost begin to lecture us about walking on the ski trail (which we weren’t, and were ensuring that we weren’t stepping on the grooved lines), thinking that we were just beginning our hike when in fact we were ending it. Other than that, everyone was respectful and nice and the trail was definitely a more easy-moderate as it didn’t require too much effort at all.

Cute hike! There were a few nice views that broke up the hike nicely. We ran into a lot of fat bikers along the way. They pack the snow down nicely so you don’t really need snowshoes at the moment. It was well marked and fun to navigate at each map post. This hike was on the easy side of moderate, not too much uphill climbing but the length might make it more challenging for some. We were able to do it in less than 4 hours with some breaks.

Nice little trail. Light snow makes some spots slippery, I’d bring some spikes for your boots.

November 25, 2018
My boyfriend, dog and I did this hike on a Sunday early afternoon and only saw 3 other people. It was a gorgeous day and amazing views at the top! The trail was packed down with snow but some icy spots closer to the top, was easy enough doing it in some hiking boots with little spikes or my bf only had hiking boots.

*All trails and the castle lookout sign say 3.7km one way or 6.4km total however my Fitbit said 5km one way or 10km total so the trail took longer than we thought but was all worth it when we got to the very top! Also, more likely 600m incline too. Definitely would keep this rated as a moderate trail! Our dog loved it as well ;)

Went in the middle of October this year and it was pretty snowy and a little slick in some areas so I would definitely recommend crampons. My friend and I went during the week with my dog. We only saw 3 other people and we enjoyed the quiet, and the view. It took us about 3 hours total.

Great trail!

Nov 17, 2018. Decided on this shorter hike while staying up the road at Baker Creek. Approx an inch of fresh snow all over the trail, but not quite deep enough for snowshoes to be required. I completed this one in hiking boots, but microspikes would be handy towards the end of the trail.
Beautiful bluebird day with a chilly breeze at the lookout. Views were great with all the fresh snow covering everything. Saw about 8-10 other people during the day, but relatively quiet.

Fun hike! Trail was well marked. Did it Nov 13, 2018 (counter-clockwise) and didn’t need our Yak Trax. Went early in the morning and only saw a couple of bikers and one other hiker.

Nov 10 2018 - beautiful views of the mountains while hiking the ridge and a larger 270 degree view at the trail end.
You can hike the trail with good hiking boots, but snow cleats would make some spots easier. Can be windy at the top as its an open area.
No washrooms on site.
Minimal hikers for a Saturday afternoon.

Easy trail to a decent view point. If you go just a couple hundred meters up towards midnight peak the views are excellent.

Really nice and easy but don’t go there when it’s cloudy , the end of the trail was completely fog :( but still nice hike for beginner !! I enjoyed it with my dog and women ! It took us 3 h back and forth

I’ve hiked up to mountain summits, but I promise you nothing will take your breath away quite like walking through those trees to the lookout point. This is a great hike, it’s quick and challenging. Gaining elevation practically the whole way up. Hikes this nov 4, 2018 and the path is fairly clear. Only a small amount of snow closer to the top. Definitely do not need winter boots or crampons to do this one...yet.

Short and nice. Windy but not as bad as windtower! Will go back in the summer for a change of season!

Hike was ok.. highly recommend crampons this time of year as half way up became quite icy. Extremely windy at the top

Counterclockwise loop. Caution crossing stream, logs were frosted over and slippery. Elevation gain in a short amount of time but amazing views and simply a beautiful hike, even with the huffing and puffing. Would not want to do ascent with fresh snow fall. Descent clear of snow, nice and sunny. Ignore last 2km. Forgot to stop my app.

Great hike up to the top very windy glad I had my poles to come down.

Very windy at the top !!

You don’t even have to hike lots to see gorgeous views. The trail is not clearly marked and it does intersect with other bike friendly trails. This isn’t bike friendly. I wish there were more signs along the trail because it is easy to deviate off it. It’s also not very popular which means moments of undisturbed quiet.
There were snow packed areas towards the top where there wasn’t much sunshine but nothing scary. Just have good non slip footwear. I didn’t need poles and crampons.
Just like its name, the top was windy. But spectacular views.
