Very crowded but an iconic view of the sign. Best to go early.

I’ve been twice. I wouldn’t recommend this for people of all ages and skill levels as there are over half a dozen creek crossings and some scrambles up and down rocks. It’s not hard, just requires some balance and willingness to do a bit of climbing. Got there around 9 am both times. The crowds are insane. Lots of jerks playing boom boxes and not picking up their dog poop. Lots of water still coming from the waterfall. Lots of non hikers on this trail so trail etiquette is not followed. Expect to wait to cross the creek if you’re not looking to walk in the water. This hike is gorgeous but wish more people respected the land and the others hiking. Curious to see if it’s less crowded during the week.

I would recommend coming at 6am on a Sunday morning, or else there will be a lot of people, kids, and dogs. Other than that, the trail is pretty easy until after the bridge and then there’s a bunch of rocks and creek crossings. I would also recommend waterproof boots. There is nothing like the feeling of wet socks LOL. Oh and if you get there early, just park on the street (the lot will be closed) and start your hike early!!!

A bit overcrowded, some graffiti and irresponsible pet owners who don’t pick up after their dogs are the reasons I can’t give this trail 5 stars. But the beauty of the trail itself and the waterfall at the end were worth the effort. This is a fairly easy trail, lots of water to cross which my kids loved to navigate through. The waterfall was definitely the highlight and made for a successful hike. My kids loved it. We try to go hiking every weekend and they mentioned this was one of their favorites thus far. Go early to avoid the crowds, the rush of people made crossing streams take longer and made it frustrating at some points. But all in all, Eaton Canyon trail was a blast.

Definitely one of the best!!!

The view of downtown LA is worth the hike alone, but seeing the Hollywood sign closer up was really cool!

Very nice trail, lots of space, not too busy (at least on a Monday morning). Great views of the observatory. First half is almost entirely uphill with varied difficulty levels but manageable, it flattens out in a few places too. The entire way back is basically downhill. Fun hike, easy to get to and pretty straightforward.

This was a wonderful first day in CA trail. Wildflowers everywhere. Easy, well kept made it a most enjoyable day.

Lovely hike! We went early and it was already quite busy but not overwhelmingly so. On the way up we were crossing the stream balancing on the rocks, and sometimes having to wait for people to cross the opposite way, but we made much better time just walking through the water on the way back down (much safer than trying to balance on wet rocks too). Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet and sandy. Some rocky areas where you have to climb the rocks. Saw a gopher snake, pretty birds and some lizards!

Beautiful trail, gorgeous views of the city

Pretty overgrown in areas right now but still a great hike. We went clockwise which looked like the easier route. A little tight for a stroller due to the overgrowth but still fun. Nice incline switchback section to get the heart rate up and some nice peek-a-boo views of the ocean. Saw some cool insect life both a huge gathering of bees (see the pic) and a tarantula hawk. Will definitely be back to repeat this hike.

6.15.19 Saturday @ Noon. Super easy trail. Lots of people. Plenty of shade. Heard a couple snakes. Saw a few lizards. The down side of this trail is there are a lot of people that don’t respect it by playing their music loud and littering. They offer trash bags once you get passed the first creek but they were out so my fiancé and I couldn’t pick up trash along the way. Definitely bringing our own next time.

The trailhead is easy to find and ample parking was available. We arrived around 11a on a weekday and it wasn't terribly busy. Altogether the hike took about 3hrs walking at a moderate pace. It starts uphill for about the first 2 miles then levels out a bit. The last quarter mile or so was paved. The trail ends with a small open space area to take pictures below the Hollywood sign. Definitely be take water as there are no fountains etc at the base or along the way.

I love this trail, its become my "home field" cardio workout 2-4 times on weekdays (its very crowded on the weekends)! it's nice for a walk but it's also great for a hike-run. I'd much rather be crossing water by rocks or logs and climbing a few rocks rather than walking aimlessly around a high school track! 3.5 miles...much needed clear my head time. I'd recommend this trail without hesitation.

This is an OK starter hike. Has a waterfall, rocks, and a smooth trail. There’s some graffiti. You can tell people don’t respect the land and that’s sad. Usually crowded.

We reached just before 10 am on Sunday and got a parking spot at the entrance which has the sign of the canyon. This is an additional parking which has about 5 parking spots. If you drive up about 0.3 miles to the main entrance, it has a bigger but limited parking which can accomodate around 20-25 cars approx. It was full when we reached, but people keep coming and leaving at different times due to variety of trails in this canyon. We started with the rising sun trail but many people were returning about 0.5 miles into that trail coz it is really overgrown at this time. Since we had a 5 yr old with us, we decided to go back and take the easy tropical terrace trail which is 2.2 miles out and back. It is paved most of the way with some shade in intervals. A stream runs along all the way parallel to the trail. Mustard and other wildflowers are flowering. It is incredibly beautiful but there are lots of bees and bugs due to the flowers. It is super easy and totally kid friendly. The ruins of the old house at the end and the little waterfall are very refreshing. There is a lot of place to just sit and have a bite before you head back. There are restrooms right beyond the parking lot which are cleaner compared to other trailhead restrooms I have visited. It was a beautiful sunny day with mild temperatures. We had a great time!

Quick, easy trail to an okay waterfall. There was a lot of shade after about half a mile into the trail and multiple river crossings, so I would recommend wearing appropriate shoes. Downside is that it was crowded on a Tuesday and a lot of people were pretty inconsiderate playing their music through speakers even though there are multiple signs saying not to. I can’t imagine what it would be like on the weekends. Quite a bit of trash and graffiti as well.

Very nice moderate trail. Bring your trekking poles. Multiple stream crossings. Don’t recommend small dogs.

Steeper than I had expected with little shad but great hike to launch our new lifestyle-

This hike is great for beginners. It offers a wide range of environments, from flat sand paths, many shaded parts, multiple water crossings and climbing over rocks and boulders. Also the elevation gain isn't high so the trekking is pretty easy. Your feet will definitely get wet during this hike if you go at a time when the waterfall level is high, so I recommend bringing an extra pair of shoes / socks to change into when you get back to your car. I arrived at 8:30AM and the main parking lot was full, and the overflow parking lot was just beginning to get cars parked. Highly recommend going early for parking spots, as when I was leaving the entire lot was full and it was difficult for other cars to find parking. Another reason for arriving early is to avoid the traffic on the trail, it's great for families so you'll definitely find a lot of people on the trail and areas do get backed up with traffic. My trail rating: 5 Stars - I'll do it again! 4 Stars - I'll do it again after some other hikes. 3 Stars - I'll do it again cause I like you 2 Stars - I'll begrudgingly do it again 1 Stars - I'm never doing that again.
