Amazing hike.
The trail is not as hard as it looks from its distance because the first 1.4 miles are flat or downhill.
Rainier view are along several points of the trail, and the view at the top is stunning.

October 6, 2018: Enjoyed the larches and views with the 1,000 other hikers (not exaggerating). We went the counter-clockwise gradual ascent route and there were some snow covered sections of trail just before the pass, but nothing worth digging the micro spikes out from the bottom of the bag.

We got lost trying to find the trailhead to Snow Lake as our initial hiking trip. But we ended up at Denny Creek Trailhead with the idea to hiked up to Melakwa Lake.
Beautiful Autumn colors painted the forestry, and mountain cliffs. The sounds of gushing water from creeks, and waterfalls echoing through part of trails. Autumn blue skies, green forestry and mountain backdrops gave the sense of dramatic world of its own.
Dogs and his human appeared small but felt the urge to give thanks to the creator of this magnificent world.

The sweats of each steps on the rocky trails was hard on the last 2 miles before the lake especially for their paws. 8 miles with 2000 ft elevation Gain was hard enough for the day. Defeated we are not. We will be back!!

I love hitting this trail with my dogs. Gorgeous Autumn color painted the forests. Blue waters mirror the sky. It’s heaven for me

Beautiful trek with breathtaking views. The trail can be completed by starting from 2 directions from the sunrise visitor center. If you wish for a easy one start from the path nearest to frozen lake as it is nearly flat. Otherwise start from the one nearer to emmons vista trail. 4 hrs from car to car. And take a good amount of water with you.

Absolutely magnificent trail. Would highly recommend during the fall season. It took us 2+1+1.5 hrs car to car. It’s an easy hike which is kid and pet friendly. However the drive till there can be tiresome once the gravel road starts.

I would rate this hike 5 stars, however; I could not find the 2nd half of the trail. Ended up climbing down a rock cliff only to find that it dead ended at the beach. Had to backtrack and take another route to get back to the parking lot. Other than that, it was a great hike. Fairly easy, well maintained trails, gorgeous views and abundant wildlife.

A must hike every year. we did this hike past Sunday. Fall colors are vibrant!

great hike!!! loved it.
get there early there is very limited parking at the trail head.

Today I have to give this hike all 5 stars. I started out at the trailhead 9:45 and arrived upper crystal lakes 12:00 I’m kind of slow but strong! I couldn’t believe the weather! 60, warm, no wind, unbelievable. Some fall colors were still out. Blue sky, sun and the lake glistened with ducks resting themselves. I was up there by myself, serene! This trail is up and up but I have a method that works for me. I take a small rest at each switchback and it worked! This trail is mostly smooth surface so if your a runner, try this out! 2,500 elevation gain your legs will grow much stronger then a track!

Fun hike with constant switchbacks. Saw some deer along the way. Moderate to hard level. Great views. Recommend.

Awesome trail! It took me approx 1 hr 10 min to get to the top, got quite steep in some parts but so worth it! Hardly anybody on the trail in the morning. I ate lunch at the lookout just admiring beautiful Mt Ranier! and some birds came and tried to steal my food

Very pretty in the fall, but quite crowded, even during the week.

Beautiful hike!! Great views at the top! Nice lake to sit by on the way up!

Amazing views of Rainier! We hiked this 10/14 and the weather and visibility were perfect! We just went to first boroughs then down the sunrise rim trail which was just as awe inspiring. This east coast girl never hiked this altitude but had no issues whatsoever. I only wish my hiking partner was up for the entire trail. Highly recommend this hike. We got to Sunrise around 1030, plenty of parking, but the lodge is closed for the season. We stopped at a little gift shop outside of the park Wapiti Woolies for some souvenirs and hit the Naches Tavern across the street for a couple drinks, a bite to eat, and a round of pool. A completely perfect day

My favorite hike by far. We hiked it yesterday, 10/14/18 and couldn't have asked for a better day. We started at noon and we hiked it clockwise. Not a lot of people hike it that way, I guess. We enjoyed this trail a lot! Beautiful sceneries everywhere you look! Will definitely do this hike again. Maybe be hike it counterclockwise next time.

Fairly easy hike. Only took us a little over an hour to go all the way to the top. Best bang for your buck on hikes since it’s relatively easy with amazing views you usually only get from longer hikes. Only downside is it’s a 3 hour drive from Vancouver. View isn’t as nice as garibaldi but much easier and shorter trail.

Did this hike in a full day in the middle of October. The fall colors made the landscape even more breathtaking. We went first to Colchuck Lake and it seemed the best way to go for this trek. We started the hike at 8:50 and came back to the car at 18hs (given that we spent about one whole hour just enjoying the view at Colchuck Lake). If you like to take pictures, I would advise to check the time the sun sets behind the mountains so you ensure your great shots at both lakes.

Great trail to get the blood flowing. Due to the shortness of the trail, this is a good choice if you want to get your heart rate up and have limited time. Views from the top are great when not obscured by cloud cover.

10/15- Beautiful hike! Definitely some elevation gain, but the views are worth it. :) We did not encounter bugs, and the trail was not crowded. Autumn seems like the perfect time to hike the trail! The drive to the trailhead was a little rough; it adds a good amount of time to the commute.

Started in the late morning, the trail provided a quiet, forested adventure with several lookouts along the way. This author, being somewhat out of shape, had to rest a few times on the way up. Trail markings are excellent with no bugs and only a tiny muddy area -- a perfect afternoon in the fall.

This was an amazing weekend, beautiful weather! My husband, 3 dogs and I had a marvelous time. I'm sooo glad we did this! I think it is a must do.

This was a beautiful hike but definitely difficult. If you’re not a frequent exerciser in great shape, I’d say try something else. The incline was pretty intense with not a lot of flat area breaks. Not sure I’d say the view at the top was worth it but it was nice to look at.

Very beautiful, with at least three great overlooks to accommodate different difficulty levels. I would call this overall Moderate, not Easy, but our group (and dog) had no problems getting to the Middle Falls. The final 1km Upper Falls stretch is marked Hard.

Super rocky, but super gorgeous. First mile and a half you lose about 1,000 feet then flattish for a short bit then gain about 1,000 to the lake. Incredible view being that close to Shuksan!!

Pretty good hike. Got more tired towards the upper falls. Wasn’t expecting it to be as steep. But overall a great hike. Went in the morning to avoid crowds and was pleasant. Though noticed a few people with dogs off leash which was not awesome. For that reason I wouldn’t be able to bring my dog next time I hike this trail.

The hike its self is just ok, but the glimpses of aqua water make it well worth it. There is a ferry at the end of the trail that will bring you back to the parking lot. I found it hard to get info on it. It departs from the end of the trail twice a day 8:00am and 3:00pm. It was $10 cash and allowed dogs, this was the highlight of the hike for me.

We hike a ton, but this was definitely a challenge. The first 2 miles were relentless switchbacks with no downhill or even flat relief. Needless to say, our legs are sore.

As of 10/10/18 the road is open. Trail is in great shape. Wonderful fall hike.
