Amazing to hike in the sunshine! some post holing.
The trail was deep with snow. Snowshoes required. We weren’t able to make it over the pass since the snow had built up and drifted the pass over. It was very windy but still great views of the mountains.
Trail was packed down pretty well all the way to the peak. Trail became very narrow after the switchbacks. I wore my microspikes, but on today’s (3/6) trail you could make the peak without them.
Beautiful but windy!
A hidden gem at the end of the trail! Easily accessible from Richardson highway. It’s about 40 mins one way on packed down snow. While the snow could be deep in some places, the trail is pretty well travelled and it won’t be an issue. We did in -25C and were completely fine. Do wear waterproof jackets, snow pants and gloves to keep yourself warm. The drive from Fairbanks to the highway pull out is also beautiful with views of Castner glacier. Overall a very nice place and a must if you are visiting Fairbanks.
Easy and beautiful trail! Met lots of friendly people on the way and had a great time. I would bring a headlamp if you want to go further into the cave like I did.
Awesome trail with Alaskan gem in the end. Even after ankle injury I had no problem hike to ice cave. Nice hard pack. Summer trail is different then winter trail when the river is not flowing. Absolutely amazing.
The trail was easy for my husband and I to navigate with our dogs. The signs for the trails were very clear and understandable for beginners. The only issue we had was nobody put a leash on their dog and they kept running up to ours.
Packed down and the ice was thick. Good amount of people out, and even saw a group of about 7 moose. Definitely need a 4wd vehicle.
Windy, snow drift, difficult today.
Trail nice packed snow entire way to top
Absolutely stunning and amazing!! The trail was easy to follow although there were no signs. Slippery inside the cave so be careful. About a mile in and a mile out! I can see it being unsafe as the snow melts. A slight steep drop in the beginning so wear waterproof pants and gloves. We love it though! Totally worth the trip to this amazing Glacier.
I definitely should have had microspikes today. Compact snow and ice trail, well marked, well tracked. There was one moose on the mountain, but not close to the trail. Access up Canyon Road was pretty slick. I had to stop 3/4 mile below the trailhead (two-wheel drive), but 4-wheelers got up.
Well worth the hike! Can be done in snowshoes or without.
Amazing!!
Great packed snow, some soft spots but amazing views!!!
Trail was in good condition. Packed down all the way to the peak.
nice trail a lot of people.
conditions were nice packed down easy walk up.
Awesome sunrise
Lots of people on this trail. Stayed towards the end of the day around 3-4pm and we had the cave to ourselves. Beautiful hike there and back. Ample amount of parking on the right side of the road out there. Trail was pretty easy to find with the amount of people that packed down the trail.
