Well maintained trail .. lot of steep mountains which gives you a good workout. Pretty views too. Will do it again to get used

Excellent after a rain, especially for the full experience at the falls, but be aware that it makes it super muddy and you'll have to cross the creek several times - bring waterproof hiking boots to protect against the water and all the rock climbing you're going to have to do. Lots of dogs on the trails, both big and small, but I saw plenty of dogs of all sizes who needed to be carried through some parts, so keep that in mind when you bring your pooch! The hike itself is GREAT - one of the best in OC! though because it's so popular it gets super packed.

Beautiful hike! 3 days after 4 very full days of rain and Chiquito Falls did not disappoint. It was flowing beautifully. This was quite a hike, felt like more than 9 miles. Some shade but mostly not. Found trail to be pretty clean, especially the second half. Bring lots of water.

Easy to get to and very well maintained trail. First half is a wide, uphill path with the second half being a stepper trail up stones. There is a long line to take a photo at the top though. Got up in about an hour really pushing the pace.

Nicely maintained trails and great view especially after rains last few weeks. So green and good volume at The fall! My husband and I managed to complete this hike in 4.5 hours with few breaks.

Beautiful waterfall at the end of a great hike! The first half is a flat walk, and the second half you’ll be climbing over boulders and rocks as you follow a stream to the waterfall. Super fun!

Great trail on an awesome afternoon.

Very fun trail especially after a rain. Although it gets crowded later in the morning, there are lots of paths to take to avoid the traffic jams on the trail. I think the trail continues on after the first major waterfall

Black Star Canyon

It's not very shady and a pretty difficult hike when it's hot but of course worth it for the photo op! It gets very very busy so earlier better than later!

Amazing hike to Potato Chip Rock, the wait wasn’t bad. People were very good about trading phones for pictures , if you took their picture , they would wait for your group to go out to the rock and take your picture. Some people complain about the wait, it’s not bad especially if you work as a team.

The trail was awesome! It rained all last week so there was lots of water in the creek and falls. The water made it a bit tricky, but it was worth it to see a waterfall in this area. Glad I wore waterproof hiking shoes.

Fun and lots of water at the falls!

I really enjoyed this hike - one of my favorites of Laguna! This hike is constant uphill for about the first mile (without a doubt, pretty challenging, but highly rewarding), opening up the ocean view on one side, and, on the other, the beautiful view of snowcapped mountains. Only in California can you get this beautiful juxtaposition! After that, this trail is pretty flat and easily doable through the beautiful rolling hills.

We started this hike clockwise at the trailhead as described by the coordinates of this app and finished the hike in about 1 hr and 40 minutes. Please note that the parking lot does close at 5pm.

Personally would not recommend this trail in hotter weather since there is no shade.

Pretty difficult hike for clumsier people. There Are a lot of rocks to climb and jump off. If you’re shorter that may present a difficulty. The trail meanders a lot so it seems like you’re jumping from side to side a lot. You will have to eventually get your feet wet so plan accordingly. Don’t forget your socks like I did -_- came 3 days after the heavy rains we got on 1/15/19. Mud is still really slippery, and the rocks themselves are slippery too. Saw a lot of dogs so it is dog friendly. Be prepared for a long hike it took about 4 hours round trip.

I went with my friend and dog and this was definitely a hike! It’s pretty long, it took us about 6 hours total with a good amount of rest stops and picture taking, especially at the waterfall. I would recommend bringing as much water as you can, it gets tiring and can get hot. I went right after the few days of rain and the waterfall was gushing with water. It was beautiful and worth the hike. I would recommend wearing hiking boots.

Beautiful hike, gave it only 4 stars because there was a ~45 min wait to climb potato chip rock for a picture.

Easy trail to follow. Was pretty slippery and muddy when we got down into the falls entrance. People were friendly. Trail was clean. Would do it again. Easy one for the dog too. :)

The burnt trees still remains, Dripping Cave trail closed. Winter time is good for me to hike this area because of the cool weather.

We started hiking at 10am and 59 degrees outside. Perfect weather for this hike. We loved the back and forth along the trail of shade to no shade. It took my sister and I 4 hours to complete the hike to the falls and back to the parking lot. Even though it rained 3 days ago there was no flowing water in the falls. There was only a trickle coming down the face. The trail was damp, but not muddy. Be warned, due to the government shut down the trailhead bathrooms are closed. But the good thing is you don’t need an Adventure Pass to park at the trailhead due to the government shutdown.

Overcrowded. Overrated. And relatively boring most of the hike. A nice workout and a gorgeous wait in line at the top. This hike wouldn’t be so bad if not as many unprepared and rude people hiked it. Go extremely early if you want to enjoy yourself and the nature around you.

Good hard hike for a nice workout. Did this during summer so I Started at 6 am with my dog and ended at 9/10 am. Start and end with a walk near the lake. Potato chip was a little disappointing and you have to climb up on to get to but still a nice fun hike.

Try to go early in the morning. You’ll bit the sun and the line to take a photo at the famous potato chip rock.

This is my second time on this hike and is fun and challenging as always. I went with a ton of my family so we kept stopping to take pictures. This trail is definitely a leg killer but if you push yourself you will make it! People need to pick up their dogs crap and throw the bags away! I’m trying to enjoy a nice hike without worrying about stepping in dog crap! It’s also very crowded, but really fun!

Very crowded, kind of boring

Trail itself was great. People hiking not so much. Unleashed dogs. Poop bags left on trailside everywhere. Way to crowded. Worst of all was the amplified music, seriously invest in some headphones if you really need the tunes. And the mountain bikers, why even try on a weekend?
