A bit of a bag drive right from the get go. Mostly forest ( which is hard to appreciate when you're sucking wind). Not very scenic until you summit. This is more of a fitness hike. I prefer scenery. I get to cross this of my bucket list, but I doubt I'll do it again anytime soon.

The trail itself was very hard to find, and we ended up going a bit too far left and climbing the mountain overlooking Highway 40 and the parking lot.. also there are lots of animal trails intersecting the main trail that may have added to the confusion. Regardless, I heard nothing but amazing things about the hike and would love to attempt this another day!

Other than the smoke, great mix of topography and great day hike. Take time to break at lake for a snack.

Good hike, rather busy with other people and bikers, but well worth the effort.

I would recommend if you are planning on doing this hike to do it later in the summer or early fall before the snow. I did it in July and the snow was so heavy we could not find a trail. Unfortunately it also was very cold and with it being quite open for the majority of the hike wasn’t as enjoyable as it should have been. I will definitely try this hike again but next time with poles, late in the summer, extra layers and water proof shoes!

Really great. Takes about 2 hours to go up slowly then an hour to run down.

the smoke at the top makes the view unique :)

Great scenic trail but very easy to get lost shortly after the waterfall with so many paths. We were lost for at least an hour and ran into another group that were also lost but we headed for the water and eventually made our way back to a trail.

Great views and enjoyed having the summit to ourselves. We took a wrong turn here and there, but if you pay close attention to where the trail is the hike isn't as tough!

Recommend an early start, as this trail is quite busy since it is coming from Lake Louise.

Completed in 5 hours, would do again.

Great quick hike you can do after work on a weekday with a rewarding view. I hiked up for 1.5 hours and down for 1 hour. I did it alone and without poles, it was fine but poles would have helped for sure. There are about 3 areas with a very steep climb, but no need to scramble. Excellent workout for sure !

The start of the trail isn’t marked, I parked in the lot where there was a sign for beaver lodge, cross the street and turn right. There’s a little path marked with pink flags.

It was a bit Smokey today you can see it in part of the sky and you can smell it in the air. It was still great regardless.

Bring a lot of water ! I had two bottles and was still thirsty at the end.

Solid hike, but start of hike not marked.
Trail starts on north side of 66, east of elbow falls parking lot - start on elbow valley trail which has some pink flagging tape. After a few metres you will make a sharp left turn up to start prairie mountain trail before crossing a culvert that would continue down the elbow valley trail east. Really straight forward after that!
Good leg burn with great views. Poles would’ve been nice! 3 hours.

The view up top is amazing!

I would rate this 'moderate' as opposed to 'hard'. Not too steep in the forest region (which is the majority of the hike), but when you start reaching the top it gets pretty steep. But for the most part, I found it fairly moderate and very enjoyable. Beautiful views at the top. An awesome way to spend a Sunday!

Great hike. Has beautiful views both to the mountains and to the prairies. Definitely a leg burner and a bit sketchy coming down even with grippy hiking boots. We unfortunately got stormed on at the top so we took cover in the trees ! Great hike for dogs as well :)

One of the most amazing hikes I have ever done and also the most difficult. My Strava marked the hike at closer to 10 miles but it’s usually off. Total hike took 8 hours from leaving Lake Louise, stopping at the tea shop for a little while to try it out, and hanging at the top for 30-45 mins making some food.

BRING A RAIN COAT. It started to rain on and off from sunny skies 3 times but never a downpour

NOTE: upon starting the actually difficult part of the trail (black line) it becomes quite a scramble. FOLLOW THE BLUE FLAGS. When traversing around to the back of devils thumb you will meet a new tree line that starts the real scramble on the way up. Stay to the left as far as possible do not try to climb straight up it is way too steep

So so beautiful, one of my favourite hikes

this was the most breathtaking hike I've done yet! the scenery around the entire mountain, whether Lake Agnes or Lake Louise or the snow capped mountains were all amazing. my kids, ages 10 and 12 did this hike in runners, I was very thankful for my hikers and hiking poles! there are narrow sections of the path, soft sandy earth, scree, and rock scramble. at times, we weren't entirely sure which direction to go, but we made it. the views from the top could not be beat! I'm so glad my son chose this as his hike of choice for our holiday!

Super Smokey when I did the hike but the landscape at the top was still very beautiful! Can only imagine the view when it’s clear. It’s not a long hike but the incline is extreme. If you want to skip leg day for the next month I recommend, just be warned your legs will probably be out of commission for the next few days

Absolutley amazing. Despite the smoke block distant views it was still incredible to walk up to the edge and the Louise and Agnes.

Wasnt too difficult up until the climb to the ridge. Can't stress enough that proper footwear is a must. Also be aware of the weather and trust your gut. Started to rain as we got back to the vehicle.

Definitely doing again hopefully with clear views!

excellent hike! the initial downhill descent was deceiving, but it gradually climbed from there. Great hike through the trees, the path was nice and wide. I did not donthe final climb to thr viewpoint, only to the too of the first. I found it to be difficult but once at the top, the views were great! did this hike round trip (including stopping for lunch at the top) in 5 hours. My fitbit calculated this hike to be 15km (without going thr extra distance to the viewpoint)

This was a good hike. Well marked trail, beautiful views of the mountains at the top. When you get to the last little trail don’t stop! It looks deceiving but go for it! It’s worth it. It wasn’t too hard but you will get tried on your hike back up to the parking lot.

Absolutely gorgeous.

Loved this hike! Get on the trail and power it up! Definitely some character building moments but those make for the best summits! Mountains 360. Highly recommend this hike for those considering a solo hike

I did this 2 days ago with my 10 year old dog. He needed to stop and rest a lot, as it is very steep and a hard workout! We brought one big thing of water but it was gone before we reached the peak. Bring extra water! The top was so stunning and worth it. However I have been 8/10 pain in my legs for two days now, with difficulty doing stairs (I'm medium fitness level, walk a lot and run). Make sure you stretch! I personally wont be bringing my 4 year old on this one, but I did see kids.

This trail is awesome, can be very difficult near the end as it is a very steep incline.
took us just under 2 hours going up and under 1 1/2 to get down at a quick pace

The way up to Lake Agnes was super crowded and touristy, also the path isn't very challenging and at one point quite boring. Past that it starts with some steeper slopes and the hike starts to be a bit interesting. hiking towards the tip of the mountain l, the path is very nice, lots of green and a nice lookout. The last 1km (ish) it is very steep. if you don't want to scramble up the stones keep to your left where the "Forrest" is, because there is a path (also steep but not as much "climbing")

all in all I would rate this hike as moderate because only the last part is challenging, everything else is easy.

would give it 5 stars but track is to trafficked

Great hike. I did Devils Thumb, Big Beehive and Little Beehive, made a long break at Devils Thumb and Lake Agnes and it took me about 8 hours. There is no sign for Devils Thumb. You need to hike the big beehive trail until you reach an intersection. To the left you’ll find Big Beehive, to the right is Devils Thumb (there is a tree log over the trail right at the beginning. I did it in Trainers, it was definitely possible but the next time I’m going to bring some hiking equipment. The trail can get very small and there is a very steep part in the last third of the trail.
