Great hike through the Sequioas! Great views and once you get away from the tourist crowd it's a very peaceful hike surrounded by nature. Took a lunch break at Crescent Meadows then made our way back to General Sherman and boy was it crowded. It was a steep hike back up to the trailhead.

Amazing and very rewarding hike!!! Make sure you bring enough water. I ran out right after hitting the top ( I took 1.5 liters) Thankfully I was hydrated enough to walk back down to the falls(probably 4 miles) to get more. Totally worth it!!! I was glad I had trekking poles with me, I would definitely reccomend to do the same!

Great hike overall. Especially loved the constant change of scenery. We saw a brown bear and her cub on the way up, was incredible! The only downside were the bugs, so bring repellent.

Started at Zumwalt Meadow and extended our hike to include the trail to Bailey’s bridge. From Bailey’s bridge, we began the climb to Mist Falls. We encountered gnats and mosquitoes throughout the entire 12.8 miles. More pleasant wildlife encounters included a bear, a mule train, and a snake. Although the granite stairway to Mist Falls was tough, it was totally worth it to see waterfall.

Did this hike on July 13th, weather was amazing and we got very lucky to finish this hike before the fire. Definitely an ass kicker but if you’ve trained for it you’re fine. I took 4 liters of water and was fine but my friends took less and filtered water at the river. Apply and reapply sunscreen because the sun is on you for most of the trail. I recommend getting a harness for the cables because although it doesn’t make it easier going up, you do have a sense of security just in case. Take it slow, it’s a great adventure worth taking your time for.. Take lots of pictures and have fun!

the nuisance of bugs was minor compared to the overall hike. great views. just challenging enough. looking forward to exploring the other trails in the area

Great trail! We started early this morning before the crowds hit, and did the touristy stuff, General Sherman, etc. Once you get past the touristy areas and off the paved trails, you find yourself in amazing groves of Sequoias with few people around. The trails are well maintained and marked well.

Great hike! You get a little bit of everything with this hike and you are almost always within ear shot of the river. When you get to the falls, the mist from it is quite invigorating and refreshing!

Loved this one!

Nice hike with lots of shade and beautiful redwoods to look at. We did the loop trail towards Hart tree ending with the Canyon. For this particular route I'd rate 3 stars. The last part of the hike descending down the canyon and immediately back up is a little kick in the butt especially after you've been on the trail ~5-6 miles in 95-100 degree weather. It definitely made it much less enjoyable for me as I was more focused on just completing the hike to go back to the car and drinking a beer vs being able to take in the scenery and surrounding. If we had done the opposite loop starting with the canyon first and then the Hart tree, I would've rated that hike a 4 star and would recommend doing the loop in that direction.

Great hike, not worth it to do it in one day. Try and get a wilderness pass.

Great trail! Can be heavily trafficked on certain days. Kings Canyon does not disappoint. Absolutely beautiful! Even with the smoky skies from California wildfires. Take bug spray, the mosquitoes can be relentless.

longer than expected... well worth the walk! beautiful views. clear paths. well marked.

This trail is amazing. I would definitely recommend going past mist falls into paradise valley though. Not an extreme amount of climbing after the falls and is totally worth it. It's an entirely new world there and only adds about 3-4 miles onto your trip. Can get kind of crowded and buggy but definitely a must see when in Kings Canyon!

Have any of you hiked the Half Dome after the Ferguson Fire?We are planning to go this weekend and hike on 29th July, but it says that the entire area is very smoky and not advisable for strenous hike

Very nice hike...wasn’t crowded at all when we went (10:00am on a Friday). My wife and I took our time on this hike exploring all along the way...in the end this hike took us 6 hours to hike to the falls and back. When you arrive at Mist Falls (to the actual sign announcing Mist Falls) know that there is a path that isn’t marked that can take you down to the water where you can get close to the Falls. This is where we had our lunch. On our last 3 miles on the way back it started to rain on us. We had decided to take the loop back which was a much different scenic view than the first leg leaving the trail head (if you have the time I recommend this route back). As all the other comments stated...lots and lots of mosquitos for the first two miles or so.

Great hike! Take your time up to Nevada falls, things get easier at Little Yosemite Valley... Until Subdome that is. I found Subdome to be more difficult than the cables. It seems like it goes on forever.

Bring good gripping shoes and gloves for the cables! I was at the summit at approximately 9AM, stayed for 15 minutes and encountered lots of hikers on the cables on the way down.

Hiked up via mist trail and down by JMT to lessen the strain on the knees.

Amazing hike, possibly second only to the Panorama-Four mile loop.

Easy hike but sore muscles the day after.

The top falls are worth the hike. Smoke every where right now because of the Ferguson Fire. south part of the park a little bit better.

Most amazing hike I’ve ever done! Be sure to get a hiking permit from the national park website. They have a park ranger at the cables making sure that if you climb to the top, that you have a permit. If you start from half dome village and go to the top of half dome and back down...it’s about 18.5 miles round trip. Prepare yourself.

Tips:
At least 3 liters of water
Harness with carabiner or some way to clip in to the cables.
Rubber gripped gloves to climb the cables
Extra socks
Gu energy as snacks
Hiking poles are not a must but a HUGE help.

Go slow and drink lots of water. And don’t quit!

Hike of a lifetime! Sure as hell the hardest one I've ever done, but things like this make me want to sleep in a tent the rest of my days. My buddy Huston's watch said 18 miles from our campground 5 minutes from the Mist Trail in Upper Pines. Left at 5 a.m., summited around 12:30, stayed up top for 30, then got down in about 2 hours. 4 of 6 of my party did the cables, not too bad, the stairs beforehand are worse. Just put that body on autopilot, but don't forget to look up or else you might miss it!

Great trail with beautiful scenery. Lots if water and falls. The first mile is quite flat, exposed and boring. If hiking in the evening, apply bug repellent or wear a bug screen. Very easy trail, that gets tougher once you pass the falls and head toward Paradise Valley. .

What an excellent hike and overall experience! The hard work is certainly paid off with the views at the top.

We started the day at 3:45am from Upper Pines campground. We reached the cables around 9am and the summit at 9:30. Starting early is the best advice we received as there were only a handful of people on the cables and a dozen or so at the top. Traffic on the sub-dome had picked up considerably by the time we were descending. We returned to camp at 3:15 with plenty of time for a soak in the mighty Merced River alongside camp to assist in recovery!

Start early, bring ample water and food and enjoy the hike! 55,000 steps on the pedometer for the day...

We (four fit moms) covered this trail in 4.5 hours (one way) with one lunch break. It was beautiful and do-able. But wouldn’t recommend it without a strong sense of adventure and direction as the trail often disappears. This app was crucial in helping us find and stay on the trail. The trip can be two days easy with tons of down time. And if you love the quiet, wilderness and few to NO people this place is for you. We left on Friday and didn’t see anyone else til we headed back on Saturday - around Elizabeth Lake.

Definitely a hike that anyone visiting Kings Canyon/Sequoia NP should take. The trail is rather easy in the beginning as it winds through the forest with the South Fork King’s River to your right for the majority of the trip. But for all the beauty you experience you WILL be eaten alive by bugs. Even with frequent spraying of bug spray they managed to get every inch of me. About 2 miles in if you take the right fork you can get some beautiful views off a suspension bridge over the river. Shortly after this portion you will begin your climb. Of course with the gain in elevation you will see many smaller falls off to your right that you will been keen to snap some photos of. The falls are clearly marked on the trail by a sign and you can either continue the trail to the upper portion of the falls or relax at the bottom. The cool mist is so refreshing and offers a wonderful atmosphere to have lunch.

The next time I'm introducing an out-of-towner to Yosemite, this is the hike we'll do. The view from North Dome of Half Dome and the valley is stunning.

Great Walk. Nothing too strenuous. Just a few steep sections. Try and get it done early in the day to beat the heat. The views from North Dome are amazing. Plenty of wildflowers along the path.

Bring plenty of water. Leave very early in the day. Pack light. Know that the cables are very challenging should you get that far!
