Great walk. Some cloud at the top but no issues with views in the crater. At the first fork I stashed my bag behind a bush and completed the loop with less weight. Easy right up until the re-ascent.

Great ocean view. It can be done in 2 hours with a walk/run.

Part of the trail was washed out. It took a little exploring to find the trail again, but at the tip was beautiful. Forewarned you will get muddy. There is also a way down to the river and the walk back along the river is beautiful. There are numerous places to jump in and see the natural pools.

very pretty trail. good time had by all.

One of my favorite hikes anywhere in the world. Have done it many times. Go early, go often.

Such a beautiful trail - so many lookouts and great views. Feels like you can see the whole island. This was a real highlight of my trip and I greatly recommend it to anyone visiting. The trail was not too difficult and my whole family was able to do it. We finished in a bit more than two hours and took lots of time to take pictures and look at the view. There are picnic tables at the top also so you could bring lunch and eat there.

This is a great little spot. While not a real hike (don’t expect to get your steps in here) it’s certainly a great return on the investment. Being our last day in Maui, and having 6 hours to kill before our flight, the family and I was looking for something quick and easy we could see without destroying our “going home” clothes. This was it. The whole think took less than 30 minutes and the needle was a fantastic site. The whole path is paved and the most strenuous part is the 40 or so stairs to the top lookout site.

Stunning views that we haven’t seen anywhere else in the world. We didn’t do the full loop. Way back up is hard with the altitude but worth the hike. Our 8 year olds and 11 year old loved it.

I added on the loop to see Kawilinau, which is a 65 foot hole into the abyss of the earth lol. I think that out me around 14 miles and I did it in six hours. I only had 1.5 liters of water and ran out, I would've liked at least 3 liters I think.

I don't believe sliding is truly a risk, I never slid once and the trail is mostly pretty wide, you aren't going to slide off into the crater.

I think the most dangerous aspect is the trail is so easy going down inexperienced hikers may feel like they can handle the trip. Going back up in the heat, I started at 8:45am, was definitely tiresome. I think anyone could do it if you have cat meat three liters of water, food, and plan on being at it all day.

As for the cold at top, I quickly warmed up going down and hiked back up without my shirt (sports bra) because I was so hot. I didn't put my shirt back on until about 3/4 of the way up. I had a clear, sunshiny day for my hike.

This is a fantastic location. The trail to the beach will take about five minutes to walk and does have some mildly steep spots. There are some small tide pools and cliff jumping spots on the trail to the beach that are enjoyable. The beach is in a secluded location protecting it from wind and some weather. There is a ring of rocks out in the water that slow down the waves creating a calm location with clear water. The water is calm enough for small children to easily swim in.

For being less than a mile, this trail is harder than I thought it would be! The way down is more difficult because you have to scramble down rocks almost the entire way down. Good shoes are a must! Great views all around and the blowhole is fun to watch. Don’t miss the heart-shaped rock that is to the right of the blowhole.

Get here early. Catch the lady that sells warm banana bread. Wear hiking shoes. Check tides if you really want to see the blow hole explode. Watch out for sharp rock. Please dont leave trash around! Respect the land!

Breathtaking views, a heart shaped rock and an amazing workout! it’s very rocky and steep so be sure to wear sneakers! But it is a must go to!!

Great short hike. It’s a little up hill at the beginning but the rest is pretty flat. It took us a little less then an hour up and back.

Not an easy hike. bring waters shoes. expect muddy conditions but beautiful falls.

lots of people. beautiful falls. bring water shoes.

Amazing hike. It’s a popular trail, so expect to share it with plenty others, but it’s so beautiful that it didn’t matter to me. The first waterfall is a nice one off in the distance. The bamboo forest seems pretty magical. I like the sound of them knocking into each other as the wind blows. The waterfall at the end is spectacular. There is a sign at the end of the trail that states the danger of the waterfall, but the trail continues on to go right up to the falls and it’s such a wonderful experience to look up and see the water falling down this huge cliff 400 ft above you. Just don’t go under the falls! Imagine a stick or pebble going over the top and falling 400 ft picking up velocity until it smashes into your skull. It was the perfect final destination on our road to Hana day trip.

The gate opens at 7am. I headed out ready to start the hike at dawn which was 5:45am, so had to wait til 7. Didn’t see that info anywhere on here, but saw some wild bunnies, a giant snail, and a nice sunrise while I was waiting. The trail is very nice. The mountains around you are green and lush. You get great views across Kahului and the ridge. Waterfalls are visible in the distance, but no water near the trail. It rains often over there, so expect the trail to be slippery in some places.

Very nice hike. Very muddy and cloudy when I went. Pretty good workout. Bring a walking stick very slippery on the way down.

We really loved the hike! In our opinion, the most beautiful in Maui. It’s all the way up the hill, good cardio and legs workout, but the views and the landscape worth it.
Some tips:
• there are two parking lots, drive to the nearest parking to the trail and just wait for a spot!
• get there early! Clouds move fast..at noon they usually cover the trail and you can’t take advantage of the views (one of the most espectacular things on this trail)
• bring a lot of water
• use hiking shoes..it’s really moody

It’s a cardio workout with nice valley and ocean views. The trail is too well-groomed for my liking. Too easy—a bit boring.

quick and easy. very beautiful. check in advance if swimming is open (was not for us in July).

we did the 11 mile loop. so quiet (one of quietest places). very scenic, challenging, rugged. took about 5 hours. nice because so few other people on the trail given difficulty.

beautiful. best in early am before crowds.

Not really a “hike” but definitely an easy climb down to the bottom to get way better views. Don’t just stop at the top, the journey down and back up is not bad! I saw a woman in flip flops doing it... slowly, but still! The blow hole is pretty cool to see, as well as the waves crashing off to the side. There are huge boulders that probably are not recommended to climb on, but we did! And the views were awesome! Very beautiful down there with the sound of the crashing waves and looking at all the volcanic rock. Even the drive to and back was so beautiful!

Challenging but worth it! Amazing views throughout the whole hike, very rewarding when you get to the top! Be careful coming down as it can get very steep and slippery!
