This was one of the coolest hikes I've ever done. Every waterfall is amazing and the second half through the bamboo forest was surreal! 100% would recommend for anyone in Maui

Beautiful!!! The beaches and lava rocks are amazing. Not a hard hike at all. amazing to experience!

Stay left! We veered off to the right after the creek and ended up in some deep bamboo. Headed back and found the trail easily. It was an easy hike but very muddy. Wear the right shoes. We saw all three waterfalls. Very beautiful and worth your time. Saw Glen from the Walking Dead hiking there!!!

Amazing hike! Start early tho and if you can go on a cloudy/partly cloudy day! The trail has no trees and for most of it it is dark gravel! My friend and I did the hike starting from the top of the crater which lead us back to the lower parking lot!

Must go spot! The views from the trail are amazing. The path down to the blowhole is very rocky and you definitely need good shoes. The views from the bottom are even more spectacular. When we went, the blowhole was not that impressive, but it is dependent on the tides.

The hole was cool to see. It’s Not really a hike, my wife crossed the rocks in her flip flops without much trouble. It’s worthwhile to take the short walk to see the hole close up, but don’t get too close, you may end up swimming with the dolphins!!!

Pretty challenging hike... 5 miles round trip. I'd bring a walking stick for the way down as it's pretty slippery. Awesome views throughout!

great hike to the falls ! highly recommend!

Best hike we did in Maui. Breathtaking views of lush green mountains and ocean. As an active family we were challenged and worked up a sweat but not to more then we could handle. The drive and hike were stunning. Glad reviewers mentioned to park In the top lot or we would have added lots of steps.

Well worth the trip. Very rocky. Make sure you have good footwear.

Ahhhhmazing hike! extremely steep in the beginning but it’s paved so it helps. My GPS said its 116 floors so be prepared. I didn’t have a walking stick or real hiking boots although I did have trail shoes but would have preferred more grip. The way down seems more difficult than up. The views the entire way are incredible. The waterfall is on the right about 1/3 of the way up. It’s not close. Also be sure to drive past the overflow parking straight to the start of the hike or else your in for an extra 2 mile hike.

Loved every moment of it. From the bamboo forest to the crossing of the raging stream. If you don’t mind getting a little wet, go all the way!!

The most gorgeous hike I’ve ever been on! The first half is entirely uphill and not easy, but the views are worth it! Bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray. We saw some people with walking poles/sticks— we did the hike without those items but they might be helpful as some of the downhill parts are slippery.

Loved it!! Rather muddy so go prepared. Early if you want to avoid crowds.

Good hike but No waterfall!!
Very steep hike all the way up!
Be prepared.

It’s usually overcast after 10am and can’t see the views but still a pretty hike.

Very crowded. Basically could have driven to the first and second falls. The upper falls had a nice pool everyone could swim in. If you go to the second falls make sure you have water shoes. Good hike to do with the whole family.

Iconic. Very typical, Hawaiian hike. First your hiking through some woods, then you’ll be presented some beautiful views of the landscape and the sea, than you walk through a mystical valley, which in my case was a bit misty, you know; those grey, tiny clouds wandering around, almost touching the ground and then some beautiful views at the top of the green mountain.

strenuous; but beautiful, rewarding and very impressive; would definitely do it again; be prepared to bring layers of clothes; it can get pretty cold on the way back up; I got back around 430pm in overcast conditions and it was cold. - but hike is worth every effort.

DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCED.

I did this hike June 27,2018, the weather was nice and so was the drive up to summit, however it was a long drive. This hike is for experienced hikers only, as going down into the crater is very easy and you will think that you can go further and further. Do not be fooled though, as the hard part is getting out of the crater. I would call myself decently experienced as I was in the Boy Scouts, but even I was exhausted after getting out of the crater.

One of the names for this hike is the Sliding Sands trail, this isn’t a lie, if you start to go off the trail you will slide down into the crater. Some points on the trail can be slippery due to the sand

So here are my tips for this hike:

Bring water, it may be cold and windy on the summit, but when you get far enough into the crater it will get hotter due to the sun beating down on you

Wear sunscreen, like I said it is sunny in the crater.

Bring trail snacks, you’ll probably be in the crater for a couple hours

Wear layers, but layers you can easily take off. It will be extremely windy at the summit, but in the crater it can be hot.

Overall this hike is extremely beautiful and I definitely recommend it, but only for experience hikers.

What a treat! The falls at the end of the trail was spectacular. Walking through the bamboo forest was pretty cool also.
It had rained most of the morning, so the trail was very muddy in the afternoon. It got a little slick going down hill. Wear good traction shoes. It helped a lot. I could hike this trail every day for a year and love it every time. A must hike on Maui.

Very nice hike. Easy except for the river you must cross. But take it show and you’ll get through. A little walk over a wall to the river and falls. Beautiful.

Great little adventure. Really not a hike as a climb down and then back up. You can still enjoy views from the top if you are unable to climb down. I’d suggest good shoes as it is rocky and the dirt can be slippery. Despite the warnings and crosses people were still standing right there next to the hole. Anyways beautiful pictures. Could feel the mist from the ocean. Very very windy. We were all “salty” after we left.

Really tough trail! Very hot, bring lots of water and sunscreen for sure! Be ready to sweat!!

Despite the easy rating on this, it is not easy for those just looking for a stroll. The first obstacle you come to is having to wade across the creek. Just after rain, or the rainy season, this creek can be swift. Prepare to get wet and muddy on this hike. For any avid hiker, this will be a stroll; however, there are slick rocks, steep rope/ladder climbs, and uneven ground. But the payoff at the end is spectacular.

I wouldn’t classify this trail as a ‘hike’ but it is an amazing “must do” if you are in the area. Don’t just park and view from the top - venture down to the blowhole and you feel like you’re on another planet. It’s an easy walk down but maybe not in Flip flops as it’s very rocky and some of the lava rocks are sharp ... Don’t get too close to the blow hole and stay off of the wet rocks. The walk back up is quick and fairly easy! Don’t miss the experience by staying in the parking lot! My daughter recently re-located to Maui for a job and this was a wonderful little adventure we did before her work day began. Extra tip: go early and beat the crowds which makes for better photos!

Do it! Absolutely awesome! Bring lots of water and be prepared to sweat!!
