Lovely trail, excellent views. The most challenging aspect of it is the elevation gain, but if you have a lot of hiking experience, I definitely wouldn't rate it as moderate. It's a good trail for less experienced individuals or those just getting into hiking!

Definitely not the easiest scramble down and up. But the pools are amazing to swim in. The views are great as well. But, the suggestion about high tides is probably a good one. Having the waves crash just a few feet away was really cool, but you definitely do not want to get caught by one.

Fairly easy rock hoping to get down and up, kids and seniors were n the trail. So, yes pretty easy. The blow hole and heart rock were cool to see, the heart rock was smaller than I thought. The blow hole is pretty easy to get great pics with.

Very cool spot with several natural pools. We did not go down to the pools, just stood above at the look out. The signs before going down made us a bit frightened to try and venture down there but there were several people down there you just have to be smart. It switchbacks down the mountain to get to the pools. Very rocky, wear hiking shoes/boots

Great spot near Lahaina! The blowhole is really cool and there’s a heart shaped rock down near the blowhole to get photos with. Very cool! I saw a lot of people wearing flip flops. I would highly recommend wearing tennis shoes or hiking shoes/boots as there’s no “trail”. It’s just pathways with rocks and down toward the blowhole the rocks get wet and are very slippery!!! Pretty steep going back up as well. Spectacular views!! Try to get there early as this is probably the most popular spot along this highway. We got there around 8am and it was perfect, by the time we left around 10am the place was packed and no parking available!

More challenging than described . Disappointed with the final lookout.

Nice little trail, steep and rocky but easy enough to navigate even in sandles. Try the coconut water from the guy selling at the top delicious and refreshing. Blowhole and heart shaped gap in the rocks is cool for pictures. High tide is best for seeing the blow hole

Nice relatively short hike. It gets pretty muddy so I'd recommend good shoes (probably not sandals). I'd bring hiking poles for the way down if you have them but definitely not necessary. It took about an hour to get to the top and over an hour coming back down. I went in the morning and the peak was covered in clouds (and rain) but it cleared up by the time I got back to the bottom. It was still a beautiful hike on the way up despite the clouds at the end. If you're lucky enough to have a clear day, the views should be spectacular. Oh and a bonus if you're planning to call a ride share service for the ride back to town: nearly the entire trail has cell coverage.

Nice little hike. Getting up and down is not challenging, but it is not for people in sandals either. Bring a camera and RESPECT THE SAFETY SIGNS.

Get there early (before 9) to beat the crowds. Would recommend tennis shoes the trail was wet and steeper than I had expected with sharp rocks.

So fun! So worth the end the heart is almost to the bottom. I suggest if your going with someone let It be a surprise. My husband and I thought it was in a different hike and it was such a fun surprise!

Love love LOVE going down to the mermaid pools!
It’s a nice place to swim if the tide is low, don’t get in if the waves are big or if any sets are rolling in- it can be SUPER dangerous.

Tough hike but beautiful

Really fun trail and has beautiful views. Went on morning hike and it was raining the entire hike up. No views on the way up. Just rain and clouds, but the hike was still fun! Very slippery b/c much of the ground is either red clay, rock or both. It can also be very muddy. The path can be both straight or winding; uphill and downhill; muddy and rocky. My downhill trek had more views because the clouds were dispersing. I almost ran back to the top, but the summit still had no visibility. Heading downhill in the wet conditions was tough. Take your time and be careful because some parts are narrow. Was able to see the waterfalls and river on my descent. Beautiful hike with benches at vista points along the way.

The blowhole is amazing when the tide is up. The mile trail from mile marker 38 is great. As you get close to the shore you feel like you’re on another planet. Don’t miss doing this trail. Wear good shoes.

Muddy and slippery, that’s the reason why it’s closed officially. But still worth going if you don’t mind getting dirty shoes. You can wash them in the river at the end. Great view over the Valley.

Wow wow wow! A must in Maui. Breathtaking, humbling views. We went on some pretty cool hikes on the island but this was the most amazing. It is more challenging but very doable for many fitness levels. Wear good shoes though!

Amazing views! Great way to see the ridge line of the mountains. You’ll see long range views of a waterfall and the coastline as well. It’s about a 1,600 foot elevation gain, prepare to sweat, but the views are worth it. I would wear hiking boots as well. The trail is very slick.

Amazing!!!!

Awesome views!

This is a great option to do before you head to the airport. It’s not very long and views are beautiful. However if you’re looking for a hike, this is not a hike you can do it in 15 minutes and it’s not strenuous at all

Great trail even for my second visit I enjoyed the trail. As other reviews mention, proper foot wear is important as is can get a bit muddy after some rain. At a decent pace it's about an hour to the top with great views along the way. Don't be disappointed if you reach the top and are surrounded by clouds, the trip is well worth it as you are likely to meet great people along the way as my fiancee and I did this go around. Mahalo, Beto.

Excellent hike with excellent views! Bring your water and a camera.

These tide pools are so cool! I would suggest going during low tide just to be safe. There are warnings at the top which are a little uneasy to read but just be smart when you're down there and that's why I'd suggest low tide. We were able to swim in a large pool that was well over our heads and felt safe since no waves were crashing over the rocks at the time. The hike is rocky so I would suggest closed toes shoes plus, the rocks are slippery at the bottom due to moss and being under water part of the time. Water shoes would be ideal. The hike down isn't terribly steep but you will be hiking in full sun so dress accordingly!

Something you don't get to see every day so definitely check it out. We went during low tide and the waves were surprisingly mellow this day so not much action. You can see it from the top to see if it's doing anything before you make the trek down. It was still incredible! There are some pretty sharp rocks and uneven walking so I would suggest closed toed shoes plus the rocks can be wet from the spray making it slippery (if you get closer). I saw people wearing flip flops and did not look comfortable. You don't want to hurt yourself on vacation!
