You can walk either on beaches or in front of private property on the ocean (makai) side where signs are usually posted. Some areas have no signs, but you can walk through to the next beach regardless. Be responsible and respectful, people live here. I like to pick up trash both on the beach and along pathways to show my appreciation and share good vibes

Challenging but views are worth it.

Easy walk on a paved trail along the shore in between the resorts and the ocean. I definitely recommend going either early in the morning or late afternoon. We walked the trail at about 8:30am and it was already pretty busy!

amazing views! a bit muddy/slippery, but worth every step!

Super short hike down to the blowhole. I knocked off a star because of how incredibly crowded it was. I would advise hiking boots or at the very least tennis shoes, but you will see people venturing down in flip flops. Be prepared to have a few heart attacks watching children haul ass down the rocks while they're parents meander their way down, oblivious to the danger the surroundings present to their kids.

When we hiked the trail, it was fairly dry, so I would rate this as an easy hike rather than moderate based solely on those conditions. The bamboo forest was absolutely my favorite part of the hike. Hearing the bamboo stalks knock together with the breeze was really cool. The banyan tree was also really beautiful! If there's no risk of a flash flood you can get closer to the waterfall, but beware there are fines if you get too close!

Spectacular hike! I loved every minute of it. The views are breathtaking and the silence was golden. I was the only person in site for 90% of the hike.

Bring shoes that grip. Muddy trail!

The blow hole is big and fun! Short hike and a neat thing to see, but there are other places that are 5 star.

Beautiful views. Well worth the hike. Took me 2.5 hours round trip. In OK shape. I’d rate this as moderate.

Beautiful Views! Easy walk to scenic lookout.

Breathtaking views, great workout could be slippery in spots be careful if raining! With the time!

Moderate difficulty. Lots of steps. Bring plenty of water and some snacks. It’s helpful if you have hiking boots for the mud and the hike down afterwards to protect those toenails! About 3 hours round trip. Well worth it, but stick to the trail.

Awesome trail but not for inexperienced. Pretty steep climb up.

Great one, do in the nmorning to avoid clouds. Did it for sunrise - turns out the gate is locked until 7 AM, so you'll have to add 0.7 miles x 2. Worth it. Easy to follow and walk, takes about 2 hours (with the extra 1.4 miles)

Nice one. There are several options while down in the crater, you can adjust based on weather and you fitness level. Terrain is VERY easy, so you might end up doing more miles than you think.

This way down gives you many trail options once down. It's easy to follow, not very steap, it's all good. Probably easier than by sliding sands. Anyhow, made it all the way to paliku, which is a little more than 20 miles, but the terrain is so easy that it took only about 7-8hours
Try to go on a not rainy day...

Great exploring hike, numerous opportunities to get to great vistas, see tidal pools. Trails are long grass largely with some more open trails further in. First 100 yards aren’t much fun, slippery mud, up and downs, then opens up. Farther in goes to short grass wide trails and the open accessible to ocean area at end of my hike was spectacular.
Wouldn’t recommend for young children

This is really short, almost too short to be called a hike, and you can do it in flip flops... but it’s incredible! The landscape is rough and rocky (what I imagine Mars is like)... at one point I brushed up against a rock and it was a good thing I was wearing pants because it would’ve been a cut up leg. We ventured down to heart rock and got some awesome shots of the rock & blowhole. People... please pay attention to the warnings... the blowhole is dangerous and can suck you in and you probably won’t survive. There was a kid there that stuck his head in and all I could do was pray for him.

My mother would not let me get too close, and by that I mean we were a solid 2 football fields away from the blowhole. But besides overprotective mothers, this is a must do! I recommend no children, as it is a pretty steep climb down nothing but rocks. Also I saw some kids about 50 ft away from the hole itself, and I will not lie, I was kinda freaking out. Super dangerous. Still, it is beautiful, and you should do it!!!!!!!

Steep at first then very flat and easy, short trail. Great views feels like you are walking on mars or another planet! Blowhole is cool too

The views were magnificent from the top. The trail was difficult to navigate as it isn’t clearly marked and we ended up hiking through the brush like a mountain goat. Also a note for families this trail goes right through Little Beach which is a clothes optional beach. The kids got an education I wasn’t planning on today

Great views. Start early.

Very fun but very crowded.

Took my group about a hour to get up. Trail is rated moderate but I would give it somewhere between moderate and difficult if doing it in hot conditions. Quite a bit of elevation gain, slippery in areas, and we sweated the whole way up. Nice views on the way though!

Rocky area, but easy for almost everyone. Definitely recommend going early. Gets pretty crowded even at 9am

We went two days ago, it’s a beautiful hike with so many different views but when we went it was SO muddy, definitely don’t wear your nicest shoes or clothes, most people coming down had fallen at least once! Have done this hike a few years ago though and it was dried up, we had no problems so I guess it just depends on the weather!

We took our 5 and 8 year old up this. It was definitely the most challenging hike we've done with them. Straight up a decent climb right away. It was a hot, clear day and the trail gets baking hot once you leave the first bit of forested area (about the first 1-1.5km or so) - bring lots of water. If bringing kids, also pack tons of snacks because you'll be bribing them a lot to keep going (or piggy backing, like me - which makes for an extra good workout). Despite the dry day, it was still very muddy, which can be fun or disastrous for the kiddos. We got lucky with the clouds and didn't get rained on, but it was a slippery slog.

All in all, a great way to add some variety to a week of beach hopping and over eating :)

A great hike to get out and see the scenery in Maui and get a good workout in!! Such awesome views! trail was very very muddy, make sure you wear good shoes (not sandals!) and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The road up is narrow, and the parking lot fills quickly. We were there at 7am and were the first there, took us 3.5 hours to complete the hike and the parking lot was packed when we left. There is overflow parking as well though! If you have hiking poles, they’d be super helpful. Would definitely recommend!!

Spectacular waterfalls. A bit muddy but not too bad. Took us 3 hours in and out with fairly long photo stops. Highly recommend!
