One of my favorite hikes anywhere in the world. Have done it many times. Go early, go often.

Such a beautiful trail - so many lookouts and great views. Feels like you can see the whole island. This was a real highlight of my trip and I greatly recommend it to anyone visiting. The trail was not too difficult and my whole family was able to do it. We finished in a bit more than two hours and took lots of time to take pictures and look at the view. There are picnic tables at the top also so you could bring lunch and eat there.

This is a great little spot. While not a real hike (don’t expect to get your steps in here) it’s certainly a great return on the investment. Being our last day in Maui, and having 6 hours to kill before our flight, the family and I was looking for something quick and easy we could see without destroying our “going home” clothes. This was it. The whole think took less than 30 minutes and the needle was a fantastic site. The whole path is paved and the most strenuous part is the 40 or so stairs to the top lookout site.

Stunning views that we haven’t seen anywhere else in the world. We didn’t do the full loop. Way back up is hard with the altitude but worth the hike. Our 8 year olds and 11 year old loved it.

I added on the loop to see Kawilinau, which is a 65 foot hole into the abyss of the earth lol. I think that out me around 14 miles and I did it in six hours. I only had 1.5 liters of water and ran out, I would've liked at least 3 liters I think.

I don't believe sliding is truly a risk, I never slid once and the trail is mostly pretty wide, you aren't going to slide off into the crater.

I think the most dangerous aspect is the trail is so easy going down inexperienced hikers may feel like they can handle the trip. Going back up in the heat, I started at 8:45am, was definitely tiresome. I think anyone could do it if you have cat meat three liters of water, food, and plan on being at it all day.

As for the cold at top, I quickly warmed up going down and hiked back up without my shirt (sports bra) because I was so hot. I didn't put my shirt back on until about 3/4 of the way up. I had a clear, sunshiny day for my hike.

This is a fantastic location. The trail to the beach will take about five minutes to walk and does have some mildly steep spots. There are some small tide pools and cliff jumping spots on the trail to the beach that are enjoyable. The beach is in a secluded location protecting it from wind and some weather. There is a ring of rocks out in the water that slow down the waves creating a calm location with clear water. The water is calm enough for small children to easily swim in.

Great short hike. It’s a little up hill at the beginning but the rest is pretty flat. It took us a little less then an hour up and back.

Amazing hike. It’s a popular trail, so expect to share it with plenty others, but it’s so beautiful that it didn’t matter to me. The first waterfall is a nice one off in the distance. The bamboo forest seems pretty magical. I like the sound of them knocking into each other as the wind blows. The waterfall at the end is spectacular. There is a sign at the end of the trail that states the danger of the waterfall, but the trail continues on to go right up to the falls and it’s such a wonderful experience to look up and see the water falling down this huge cliff 400 ft above you. Just don’t go under the falls! Imagine a stick or pebble going over the top and falling 400 ft picking up velocity until it smashes into your skull. It was the perfect final destination on our road to Hana day trip.

The gate opens at 7am. I headed out ready to start the hike at dawn which was 5:45am, so had to wait til 7. Didn’t see that info anywhere on here, but saw some wild bunnies, a giant snail, and a nice sunrise while I was waiting. The trail is very nice. The mountains around you are green and lush. You get great views across Kahului and the ridge. Waterfalls are visible in the distance, but no water near the trail. It rains often over there, so expect the trail to be slippery in some places.

Very nice hike. Very muddy and cloudy when I went. Pretty good workout. Bring a walking stick very slippery on the way down.

We really loved the hike! In our opinion, the most beautiful in Maui. It’s all the way up the hill, good cardio and legs workout, but the views and the landscape worth it.
Some tips:
• there are two parking lots, drive to the nearest parking to the trail and just wait for a spot!
• get there early! Clouds move fast..at noon they usually cover the trail and you can’t take advantage of the views (one of the most espectacular things on this trail)
• bring a lot of water
• use hiking shoes..it’s really moody

It’s a cardio workout with nice valley and ocean views. The trail is too well-groomed for my liking. Too easy—a bit boring.

we did the 11 mile loop. so quiet (one of quietest places). very scenic, challenging, rugged. took about 5 hours. nice because so few other people on the trail given difficulty.

Challenging but worth it! Amazing views throughout the whole hike, very rewarding when you get to the top! Be careful coming down as it can get very steep and slippery!

This was one of the coolest hikes I've ever done. Every waterfall is amazing and the second half through the bamboo forest was surreal! 100% would recommend for anyone in Maui

Walked this trail at 6:30 a.m. with a large group of folks with varying ages all the way to Black Rock and back to the Ka’anapali Beach Club. Running or walking shoes are recommended. Mostly exposed to the sun but for a few stretches of shade from trees, so definitely wear a hat and other protective wear if you’re sensitive to the sun. Enjoy views of the resorts along the trail, ocean, beach, and take in all that fresh island air.

A short trail that everyone can enjoy. Good for kids and old people. The youngest (2) and oldest (72) in our party walked the whole way without issues. Great views of the lush, green valley, rushing water and the Iao Needle of course. Path can be muddy or slippery with the moisture from rain and there are steps to navigate, so I would suggest a sturdy shoe or, better yet, a hiking shoe.

Amazing hike! Start early tho and if you can go on a cloudy/partly cloudy day! The trail has no trees and for most of it it is dark gravel! My friend and I did the hike starting from the top of the crater which lead us back to the lower parking lot!

Pretty challenging hike... 5 miles round trip. I'd bring a walking stick for the way down as it's pretty slippery. Awesome views throughout!

great hike to the falls ! highly recommend!

Best hike we did in Maui. Breathtaking views of lush green mountains and ocean. As an active family we were challenged and worked up a sweat but not to more then we could handle. The drive and hike were stunning. Glad reviewers mentioned to park In the top lot or we would have added lots of steps.

Ahhhhmazing hike! extremely steep in the beginning but it’s paved so it helps. My GPS said its 116 floors so be prepared. I didn’t have a walking stick or real hiking boots although I did have trail shoes but would have preferred more grip. The way down seems more difficult than up. The views the entire way are incredible. The waterfall is on the right about 1/3 of the way up. It’s not close. Also be sure to drive past the overflow parking straight to the start of the hike or else your in for an extra 2 mile hike.
