Did the trail clockwise, however agree with Chris Lingle's comment below about both ways having advantages and disadvantages. Clockwise you are going downhill on uneven paths and uphill on stable ground, but it was nice to get the brutal uphill portion out of the way on the first half of the loop. Would recommend wearing something you don't mind getting wet while treading through waist/thigh high water, hiking boots and lots of water+sunscreen! Very beautiful hike! Took us closer to 5 hours, kept getting distracted by nature!!

Fun hike, lake wasn’t quite worth it though, squelchy and not the best for swimming, although very nice and cold after a hot summer hike.... didn’t go further to Mt Webb which might have made it more worth it.

Doing it again this weekend, last time was 2015 when I first visited BC. Loved it then! No need for snowshoes, well used and packed down apparently. Unless going further to Greendrop, which is less well trodden.

Beautiful but go early because it’s way to popular and gets real busy.

Beautiful hike!!! Well worth the drive! Can’t wait to go back! Bring a towel to dry off your feet at the beginning of the trail (or bring water shoes).

Side loop on Spring Trail takes you down to ocean near junction of Bluff Trail and Panorama Trail. Last bit of Spring Trail involves fun scrambling over tangle of driftwood logs, before reaching a very secluded beach tucked in between two headlands. Good for lunch or a snack. We were unfortunately a bit rushed to finish entire loop, which we did in counter-clockwise direction. Although others recommend clockwise, I'm not sure. It's often the downhills that can cause problems, and clockwise you are going downhill on more loose rock and rutted paths, while on the other it is essentially a more continuously sloped road. Advantages and disadvantages either well, but great views in all directions. Entire loop, including lunch on the Spring Trail loop was around 3 hours 15 minutes.

Go Clockwise if you want to get the hard part out of the way. Strenuous inclines but well worth the effort. You won’t be disappointed at the views of the crashing waves. Bring snacks and water to enjoy along the way!

The views are amazing. I did it clockwise and thankful I read the review prior. A must do hike if in the Monterey area.

Gorgeous hike with varying landscapes and killer views. We followed others suggestions and hiked clockwise; most difficult part the ascent is at the beginning too. I’d rate the hike more moderate than hard. Start to finish took us 3 hrs

The “beach trail” marked at the end (if you’re doing this trail clockwise) is very much CLOSED though it’s not blocked off. We ended up forcing our way through fallen trees and tons of poison oak to get out to the parking lot. Save yourself and go back to the initial trail you take in (creamery meadows) instead of trying to do the parallel beach trail! Also, the summit is the best place to sit and have a snack/lunch - not really anywhere else to do so. Overall a great loop with a challenging climb (as others mention, definitely do it clockwise) and spectacular views (which you can directly look at on the descent if you go the clockwise route). Enjoy!

Awesome hike! As mentioned, the clockwise route is probably best way to go - not only for the view coming down towards the ocean but also because you’ll knock the ascend out at the start while your legs are fresh. Happy hiking!

Great hike! I had to take off our shoes to cross the river. It was cold!!! I recommend bringing a towel to dry off once you cross. As many mention on here do the look clockwise to get the best views. The trail along the ocean are very narrow compare to the trail along the hwy 1.

Once you get to the top, I recommend to go a bit further up along the wired divided. You will get a great view of the ocean. There is a log where you can stand and take pics. Take snacks to enjoy there.

One of my favourite trails to hike, hate the drive up.

Good mountain bike trails. You’ll be tired.

Truly extraordinary hike - from start to finish. (Bring flip flops or water shoes and a small towel to dry your feet! You need to cross a short ice cold creek to get started and finish.)

Great hike with spectacular views and take it in the clockwise direction. Please note that the bridge on one side is closed so you have to take off your shoes and wade through a stream, the water is freezing cold.

Good mix of trees and great beach views. Got lucky bc it was a clear day for views. Go clockwise makes for a better hike. Not much shade bring a hat.

Go clockwise on the loop as the payoff(views) and grade work in your benefit

We loved this loop and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a moderately challenging loop with spectacular views. If you do the hike clockwise you'll have a slow, long, moderate climb up to the top of the ridge through a pleasant forest with views at the start then again at the end of the climb. Then a somewhat steep switchback section down to the bluffs where you'll be rewarded with a nearly flat trail for the last half of the hike. Counterclockwise, you get the long flat bluffs trail before a very steep, switchback climb up to the ridge halfway through the hike. Then a long, slow, gradual descent back to the start of the trail. Either way is fantastic!

hard hike!! We took the South boundry trail straight uphill. it was difficult and there was no shade until you are about two thirds of the way up. but...Beautiful! Redwood forest about a mile from the top, stunning. the panoramic trail coming down is beautiful, but it zigzags all over. a trench has been dug in tje trail which made hiking precarious. i guess for rain water, but it is difficult to navigate. Defintely a great hike, bring a stick, a friend, and enough water. ran acrossed a mountain lion chasing two deer on the way back to the car.

Steep but short hike up to Lindeman (take polls if you have them). The autumn colours are lovely. Great place for a dip in the summertime.
Lots of boulder hopping to Greendrop. I personally found this lake less attractive so would stop at the far end of Lindeman next time.

Outstanding! Great views - do the eight mike loop and then walk along the beach.

it was a rough ride by truck to get to the start of the trail but the views at the top were unreal!

One of my favourites, Lindeman Lake is beautiful and worth the climb. A bit of a drive to get there and heavy traffic most days, though.

Steep going in some places but the city lights at the top are so beautiful! not to mention the stars! if you've done this one before I highly recommend staying over night at the summit just for the view.

Lots of uphill but worth the trek!
