Definitely not the 8.6 that it said, so we took a detour and made it our own.

4/16: Perfect day! Sun wasn’t too hot/shade wasn’t too cold. My legs are DEAD. (But I also worked out for the first time in a while yesterday, so that could be why.) Gonna say this was more of a strenuous moderate hike, but not hard. We parked by the canopy trailhead, but crossed the road to start by the fire station up past the Mt Tam orange/brown sign. I feel like we followed the trail recording pretty well and ended up clocking 8.5 miles. No cell service once you start the hike but you could lose it on the drive, too, depending on your provider.

We started at Pantoll Campground and stopped at Mountain Home Inn for dinner before heading back. Beautiful views and forest —plus cocktails! Winning!

Absolutely gorgeous! I wish I could do this every week :) It’s well maintained, but you of course need to watch your footing a bit. The forest is breathtaking.

We came the Tuesday after Easter. Nice moderate hike with our teenagers. We arrived at the park 45 minutes before park opens and were the second car in line to get in the parking lot. The park ranger opened the parking gate 20 minutes early and the park ranger at the entrance let visitors in before 9am - sweet! There were probably only 4 visitors ahead of us and we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Started counter clockwise as other reviewers suggested - awesome advise for best views of mini waterfalls. Watch your steps on overgrown roots - almost turned my ankles a few times. Only encountered a banana slug, butterflies and a spider along the trail. We finished the hike 3.5 hours later, and at 12:30pm, it was crowded by the entrance - glad we came early! We visited the Muir Beach Overlook afterwards and on our way there we passed by the Muir Woods parking overflow - again, glad we came early because that looked like an extra half a mile walk to get to the park entrance.

We started at Bootjack Camp since parking was full at Pantoll. Still had to park along the road. Went counterclockwise, but lots of stairs on the back half, so I may reverse it if I do it again. Trekking poles definitely used. Lovely hike though.

Loved this! Enjoyed the relaxed, curated part of the trail. It was nice to read the informational plaques and just walk along the path, enjoying the ambiance. Then, the second half of the trail got my heart pumping. We took a detour up Cardiac Hill and the view was worth it! Saw an ocean of clouds over the actual ocean. Check out my picture to see what I'm talking about. Great combo of hiking worlds, peaceful and sightseeing + physical exercise.

Best waterfall views are seen if you do the trail counterclockwise. Also the big elevation gain is then at the beginning and the steps will be out of the way.

Excellent. I didn’t care for the visitors center as it had a lot of people. But the trails up at higher elevation are mostly clear. I came on a Tuesday and arrived at 10:20am. Bring snacks and water. Pack out your TP if you take a dump somewhere(ziplocks bags work great for that), and watch your step for the banana slugs! I found two that had been stepped on. One was squished to death! Quiet, dark, damp, magnificent forest. I will return!

We did it counter clockwise- Ranger Elizabeth gave us great advice to get the steep out of the way up front. After bridge 4 the people thin out- it’s quite uphill for about a mile and a half - and then the TCC is along a ridge and the Ben Johnson is downhill- a little tough on the knees. Overall a really pretty trail- food workout - had a great day

WalkingGreat!

Great hike, and the suggested starting location means you do not have to pay for parking! go early to find parking on the weekend though. ( we arrived around 9am. the lot was full and we got lucky and found a spot only slightly further up the road on the shoulder of the road.) Beautiful place beautiful hike. wonderful to see the redwoods. but a moderate amount of people on the weekend. If you do walk to the Muir woods park headquarters there is a gift shop and Cafe. The coffee was worse than I could have imagined and my expectations were very low to begin with. But I was desperate for some caffeine. lots of people at the Muir woods park headquarters as well.

We did this trail counter clockwise. It was gorgeous. And after about .75 miles, the people thin out. The forest is breathtaking. It’s a challenge depending on your conditioning - we are about average. A little muddy in March. People were respectful with masks. It was longer than 6.3 miles for us (about 8), but I’m not exactly sure why.

Straight down and straight back up again. There are some really beautiful spots throughout the trail and a nice balance between sun and shade. And so much water! Muir Woods (around the monument) is full of children and their unmasked parents.

I didn't hike the whole loop, but took Sun Trail from Panoramic a mile out and a little on the Redwood Trail. Very even terrain, beautiful views of Muir Woods, and the Pacific Ocean beyond.
