Mildly rough in parts but very nice
Love the variety of landscape, just enough elevation, ponds and creeks and views. And not as many people as other Mt Tam hikes. All round winner! Alpine Lake trail was open ( see review above) but there was a chain link fence that clearly had been in use. I suggest counter clockwise as well, and get there early on weekends as limited parking.
Awesome Trail. A bit of everything on a super Gorgeous Day in Marin County. 7.6 Miles.
Beautiful hike! Counter clockwise is the way to go for sure. We parked in the wrong parking lot it added a mile each way.
I did this hike recently (February 2021) and absolutely loved this hike. There are 3 parts: the fire road with gorgeous views overlooking Bon Temp Lake and the Bay, the magical redwood rainforest with hidden ponds and the walk alongside Alpine Lake. Please note that they have closed a portion of the trail near the end of Alpine Lake and I was unable to complete the loop!! I was forced to turn around and do the entire hike again, back out the way I came. This made the hike over 10 miles!! Make sure you check to see if the trail is open before attempting this loop in the direction I did.
Fantastic hike with lots of variety. Ranger was giving out plenty of parking tickets on a Sunday, so be sure to pay your $8 fee...machine takes both paper and plastic.
Great and easy. Decent views as wel
Well maintained, great views, 1000 of elevation and some WWII history. What else do you need.
One of my favorites in the area. Starts out shaded with awesome tree cover + visuals, challenging enough with the incline, then amazing views of SF and Oakland from Hoo Koo E Koo.
I ended up doing the route in reverse, which was probably my for the best. The first bit was an uphill scramble, the the trail is pretty deteriorated; glad I had poles. Beautiful views and some water.
Very steep but a beautiful day.
always a great walk
Lovely trial amongst the redwoods and marrones. Small falls.
Great views. Part of the watershed so there’s a parking fee!
Gorgeous and a little bit busy with bikers, but the views of the ocean and the city are incredible. Pretty cool to see old batteries and sandbag formations up in the hills too.
