The Mardi Himal Trek is an unforgettable backpacking trip through the Annapurna Range. Along the way you will experience snowy peaks, rhododendron flower forests, local villages, and views of the peaks of Mardi, Machhapuchhre and Annapurna Mountains. You will need trekking permits. The permits include the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) which runs about $20 and the TIMS Card (Tourism Information Management System) which also runs about $20. This hike is challenging but is doable on your own, or if you like you can easily find a guided tour. You can collect your permits from the Nepal Tourism Board offices in Kathmandu or Pokhara. The segments here are at an ambitious pace beginning in Kande and ending in Sidhing. You will need to arrange transportation to and from these locations. If you do not want to hike so far each day, you have additional options for lodging at differing intervals, see the map layer for details. There are many "tea houses" along the trek where you can purchase food and a place to sleep (each night of this route as outlined here ends in a tea house). In general, these are affordable, but the higher up you go the most pricey they become- budget accordingly. This hike is at very high elevation, especially once you reach High Camp and continue on. This elevation level can effect people differently and potentially be dangerous. Be sure to drink a lot of water (treat your water before drinking!) and if you experience symptoms of altitude sickness, descend immediately as this can be fatal in extreme cases.
