I really enjoyed this hike! Offered a decent level of physical challenge, while also affording some better than average scenery! Very easily found the trail head and experienced no difficulty to Valentine Lake. Do be warned though, those with less-than a decent level of fitness may struggle to cope with the elevation and elevation gain

Two stars due to all the horse crap. People with dogs are expected to clean up after, why not the trail horses and mules. I was raised with horses and poo is poo.

Really nice

Pretty sure it was more than 9 miles round trip. I also definitely recommend going to Dorothy if you’re up there anyways!!

Did this as part of a loop, coming back along Duck Pass trail, Emeralds Lake trail and Coldwater George trail. Definitely felt the altitude when I set off but it got better. It was an overall steady climb up and no long strenuous sections. Started hailing and then snowing on the way down. Great views and worth the effort.

Absolutely magnificent hike, walked up and the reward was stunning, was able to comfortably trail-run down.

Beautiful, trail is moderate. We made it in a jeep jk, our friends were in a stock Tacoma. I would go again, it did get really cold at night.

Took the trail early July. BEAUTIFUL! Not room crowded. Fished Skelton on the way. Barney was crystal clear and beautiful. Great hike!

One of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done. Steep and challenging on the way up but I stopped and really took it all in along the way. Steep to start and after about 45 minutes-hour you get to Sherwin Lake, I didn’t stay here long but it is quite lovely. At some point you will walk through a grove of Redwoods, aside from the lake itself I think this was my favorite part. After that you hit a few streams. One of the pools from the streams definitely has some thermo activity, light bubbling coming up through the ice cold water. I stuck my hand in and it felt warm by the bubbles. So rad!
When you get to the steep river you hit some steep switchbacks and then you finally come out to a scenery like you’ve never experienced. Valentine Lake was picture perfect. I hiked on a hot day so since I was alone I ditched the clothing and jumped in.... and then right out since the water is ice cold. But if weather permits then I still strongly suggest it.

So this hike. Do it!
Leave no trace please <3

Always enjoy this hike.

Trail was hard for us to follow, became lost a couple of times. We are beginners so might chalk it up to that. Overall great hike though the elevation got to us a bit.

This is a great hike, but be warned it is strenuous at times with a few steep switchbacks.

Beautiful trail with lots of wildflowers in the summer and fall colors after September

This is an amazing and grueling hike. Well worth the the pain felt during the final miles back to the trailhead. Spent the night at big magee lake under the magnificent milky way. left for the summit first thing in the morning, after coffee and stacks of course. Passing through the last bit of trees and shade you reach the endless granite graveyard. So many colors of stone. Approaching the summit gets quite steep with an exiting scramble to the top. Did this just before noon when the lingering thunderstorms started moving in. On the way down we realized that this hike was probably a lot closer to about 21 miles round trip.

Creek crossing was somewhat intimidating. But totally doable.

Beautiful hike. Hikes through a variety of landscapes ranging from meadows, crests and valleys, pine forests, river and waterfalls, a handful of lakes varying in size and surroundings. Did the hike clockwise, saving the PCT views for last as a reminder of the landscapes I was in earlier on the hike. Recommend the extension to iceberg lake.

Hiked the loop on Labor Day weekend, was hot during the day (shorts weather, likely in the 70s) and cooler in the evening/early morning (high 30s). Very few mosquitos

Such an amazing hike. Beat the crowds at Yosemite and venture to the Ansel Adams Wilderness- you’ll be glad you did. While we initially set out to do Ediza as a 20 mile loop trail some complications and setbacks turned this into an out and back from Agnew Meadows, past Ediza, and onto Iceberg Lake. While Ediza is pretty, and almost swimmable, the real gem is the trek through the meadows en route to Iceberg. The scenery changes dramatically and you feel you’re hiking in the alps with little streams trickling down the mountain through flower filled meadows. Even in September there was still glacier remnants on Iceberg lake, since it’s over 9k ft. Pro tip: leave EARLY! They close the road to cars after 7:30 am so you’d have to take a shuttle. We got the last parking spot at Agnew Meadows campsite at 7:00 am.

Somewhat easy trail with a couple of semi-technical areas. Only saw two other groups. Great views and wildflowers.

Great Trail. Hike up is quite the challenge, but so rewarding when you make it. The steep inclines are difficult, but the views are amazing. Trail is marked very good. Bring plenty of water and take your time, to enjoy all the trail has to offer!!

a trail is absolutely fantastic Unforgettable views the dogs that were off the leash where real nice. the unleash dogs were very good. ( most of the 40 + dogs ) Columbus Day weekend.

Truly an amazing hike! The trail is well maintained, though gets a bit confusing while crossing the river near Ediza Lake — I found some stepping stones that did the trick. There was still some haze from the recent California wildfires, but from what I noticed it seems to blow through fairly quickly and isn’t too big of a deal. I started the hike around 7:45am and made it back to my car by 2:30pm. The views of the Minarets at Ediza Lake are breathtaking — I’m sure they’re even better earlier in the season when there is more snow. Bring a camera for this one!

Pictures of this trail started my love affair with hiking/backpacking! I finally hiked it last year and it was a dream come true! Even more beautiful than the photos!

This is one of my new favorites! I made it with a stock Chevy K1500 and 32" tires. The rocks are sharp so I'd suggest making sure you have good tires, but ground clearance requirements aren't too bad. I didn't find the last switchback to be anything overly difficult either, but I have a regular cab short bed. I might think differently if trying it with a longer wheelbase, though I suspect it's still manageable.

gorgeous views but a bit dusty. few hikers on trail, but busy at summit with all the gondoliers. nice to see the distant Minarets, but shrouded by smoke. hiked on 19th August

fabulous hike, as good as it gets. spectacular peaks, pretty flowers, burbling Brook, serene ponds/lakes and well maintained trail. we achieved the pass, but not the peak. Mt Starr is formidable due to loose rock, scree and v steep.

I hiked this trail for the second time and enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I hiked it a year earlier. As noted in other reviews, the trail doesn't offer a lot of shade, which isn't great when hiking in August. As long as you avoid hiking in the heat of the day, though, it isn't too bad.
Once you reach Sherwin Lakes, it makes the hike worthwhile. While there was a lot more traffic this year than last, and more hikers encountered along the trail, it was still enjoyable. I believe we hiked this trail on a weekday last year, but this year it was on the weekend.
Once we arrived at the largest of the lakes, the spots where we could access the water had other people nearby. It wasn't a problem for us, but if you expect seclusion, this may not be the place to find it. I'm sure you could find seclusion at other places around the lake once you get a little further from the trail.
All in all, it's a nice trail. There are places where there is little shade, and some spots where you have to climb over a few rocks, but overall it's a decent trail.

The hike is amazing shadow lake is nice but it doesn’t compare to Ediza. The trail is flat for most of it just rocky parts of gravel and rock a some steep inclines. Once you get to Ediza u won’t be disappointed you get a beautiful view of mount Ritter and banner peak even tho for me there was smoke that day
