The trail is incredible but I would not advise for the winter. We did this trail on a cold day and the day before it rained. In many places had ice which made the path slippery. Even with the metal ladders I do not consider it a difficult trail but it requires care and a little effort.

I went up the north ridge and down the south (no roads go near the south trail down, and you can catch a shuttle). Actually went up and down barefoot, and still did it all in under four hours. If you’re in half decent shape it’s a breeze.

On the way up cars pass very close by several times but that didn’t stop a deer from running across the trail! It’s really crowded on top, and as you get nearer there are lots of people who walked on from the road. It’s a bit lame, but not enough to take away from the hike and views.

I highly recommend going down the south side rather than doubling back. The scenery changes, I passed less than 5 people (and about 20+on north ridge), and it goes straight into one of the campgrounds.

Beautiful hike! was a little rough in places, but had a lot of beautiful stops to rest my legs in the way up. followed the blue markings and a beautiful stream. had to be careful because of the leaves and rocks were a tad slippery. amazing view at the end, very much worth the hike. ended up watching the sunset later on. amazing views!

Did this trail in the evening when it was extremely foggy, I'm sure there would have been great views if it wasn't for the fog. A great trail otherwise, wild blueberry bushes are everywhere. You are following blue arrows painted on the rock

Incredible hike with and incredible views. Towards the top you have to hold on to rails that have been put in the rocks. I don't recommend this trail for people who are afraid of heights

Incredible views. Nice cardio getting to the top. Had to use a few metal rungs here and there.

Great hike with amazing views and lots of elevation changes

amazing trail..

Great views at the end, but be prepared for some butt-burning stair climbing in order to get there! Possibly a better view than Cadillac Mtn! :)

This hike will get your heart racing...but it is worth the amazing views and the pride you have for yourself for completing it! Must do this if visiting Acadia!

This was a beautiful trail with so many awesome views at each level. Perfect for fall leaf peeping and photography. Not a difficult hike. The only disappointment was the road was next to the trail at points which took away from the nature. This is a”must do’ hike.

Some reviews make this sound way scarier than it is. I also get queasy with heights. Yes you need to watch your footing and climb some rungs but it is a fun, short trail. We went as the sun began to rise, it was totally empty (week of Oct 14), took us about half hr to get to the top and we had time to settle before the sun peaked out above the ocean. Definitely recommend this over the crowds on Cadillac Mountain (which we also did) for a sunrise!!!

This was such a fun hike. We took about an hour to reach the summit but this was only because we stopped to take a lot of amazing pics. The colors during autumn made it so much better. Definitely worth it.

Nice and short, not too strenuous. We hit the summit in a half hour. Several of great photo opps with the fall colors

A wonderful hike. Mainly over rocks. We did it together with my family incl. a 20 months old in a carrier. Stopped many times. Made it up in 2 hours and down in about 1.5 hours. The gift shop up top sold hot chocolates, which we loved as it was cold and windy on this October day.

This was a phenomenal experience. The views on this trail are beautiful. Paradise!

A little scary but super fun! Beautiful colors in October

Started our hike at 5.15am and got to the top by 6.30am to watch the sunrise. It doesn’t get light out till after 6am so make sure to bring a headlamp. The hike was exciting! All uphill and made it more adventurous in the dark. Not challenging but definitely long and can be tiring at some points. The view is absolutely amazing and sunrise is not to be missed.

I love how fast you get amazing views on this hike! Some scary parts for sure but they just add to the fun!

It’s popular for a reason! Crowded but it’s pretty awesome to be hiking so close to the ocean all the way. Very easy trail and a lot of fun!

From the summit going to Dorr mountain summit is rewarding. (then going down from Dorr mountain north ridge trail, Hemlock trail, and Gorge path)

Views are amazing but this is a HEAVILY tracked trail along a main road. Mostly flat.

Beautiful, adrenaline pumping climb.

Went during the summer it was super crowded but still tons of fun. Just don’t look down.

This is strenuous, and if you’re afraid of heights be full warned that there are points of cliff exposure! But it is so worth it for the views! We hiked this immediately after watching the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, and the trail was very quiet and not many people were on it! You should walk the beach when you’re done! Beautiful views and so worth it!!

Breathtaking views of the ocean!

Great little hike

Perfectly marked. Do not climb if you are afraid of heights. I have never heard such gasps of awe of the scenery from my wife. Absolutely perfect (hard) hike.

We did this trail right after Precipice and found it actually fairly easy in comparison. There’s a mix of rock scramble and a short iron rung climb but you get to the top if 30 minutes (maybe less, it was raining for us). The views here are absolutely incredible. If you do this hike during peak foliage I think you get the best views. If you go down the Bowl Trail there’s a fun little pond which people go for a dip in the summer.

Great hike with beautiful views! Wouldn’t recommend going up / down in rainy conditions without proper shoes.
