Hiked this with my wife, 10yo daughter, 9yo daughter, and 7yo son. Great trail and very popular. There were more people on the trail than I expected for a Friday morning. This trail was a return to hiking for me, and I managed fine. My wife is new to hiking, and this trail was a little taxing for her. My kids had a blast, but were ready to get back to the truck by the time we logged a 4.2 mile round trip. It was pretty humid and a great lesson about packing enough water and having a cooler waiting in the truck for the finish. Also, I was happy that I outfitted everyone with proper hiking boots or shoes. The trail was rockier than I imagined. Of course I saw some hiking in tennis shoes, but I’m super glad I wasn’t one of them. All in all, great family outing and we all slept well that night!!!

Easy hike. Down and back in about 2.5 hours. Worth it at the top

Great family hike! My wife and I took our three kids (14, 11, and 7) and our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and really enjoyed the day. Additional info: I maneuvered our Town and Country van up Meadows Lane from Crabtree Falls Hwy and it was a little rough but not too difficult. It has been dry, and I am sure the road gets slick and challenging when wet. If you follow this app's map, you will arrive at a hairpin curve in Meadows Lane. There is an obvious camping spot (meadow) right there....that's where we parked the van. There is a road just to the left as you look at the camping spot from Meadows Lane. Follow that uphill past the Road Closed gate until the road forks to the left and right. You will notice trees on the left fork with the white AT mark. Look sharply to the RIGHT (even right of the right fork in the road,) up the mountain, and you will see additional white AT marks. That's your path. It's moderately steep uphill at first but not terrible. Plan on about 2.9 miles to the large meadow at the base of Spy Rock. The AT cuts off to the right as you enter the meadow. Go straight to the base of Spy Rock (past several campfires) and circle around the left side. You will find a path. It takes some scrambling but the whole fam plus doggo made it, no worries. Enjoy the view!

difficult but worth the view!

Beautiful scenery, challenging hike, wonderful views.

I’ve been hiking this for almost 30 years. It is one of my favorite hikes and different every time. The view at the top makes it all worth while.

Hiked this one today. Actually, that was my second attempt to climb the rocks all the way to the top. First time around it was drizzling all day long, boulders were slippery, and I did not finish it. Today was sunny - different story. Good traction, because it was dry, and spectacular views all the way up (if you are climbing the boulders). Very very challenging climb, and I have done some tough trails. Rocks are getting bigger towards the top, and harder to climb. I had enough brains in the end to take side trail down instead of jumping boulders back...lol. Highly recommend if you want entire body workout. Do not recommend if you have knees problem.

Great hike not for beginners it's up up all the way! But the 360 panoramic view is amazing.

It was a great moderate hike! Beautiful waterfalls scenes. A few rest spots (rocks and benches). Our labradoodle enjoyed the hike too - since she’s an experienced hiker she was off-leash, but I wouldn’t recommend letting your dog off-leash if they aren’t well trained. Other than that, there are low running water spots that were for dogs to mingle and cool off. Enjoy!

A great hike! Challenging but well worth it. The view from the Cliffs is amazing! A black bear crossed the trail ahead of mean the way back down. That got the heart racing. It was a great day hike and part 2 of 3 for the Triple Crown.

Beautiful hike, lots of rain the last couple of weeks so the falls were roaring. Moderate is an accurate assessment. Hiked it with my wife and our two granddaughters. Girls complained a little but not to much which rates this as a good family hike. will differently hike it again when in the area.

Fun, short hike. Started early on a weekday morning and ended up having the entire top to myself. Clear day, great views, and light breeze.

Hiked this with a friend after a week of heavy rain and the falls were incredible! The trail was waterlogged and a little difficult to navigate at points, but overall still a beautiful hike. Crabtree is one of my favorite hikes in central VA.

Great hike other than a fact I got stung/bit by something that caused my knee to swell but still I would highly recommend to someone who wants to go on a relaxing and just overall chill hike

Based on the google maps directions provided by this app, you’ll be driving up a tight service road for a significant amount of time until you reach a point where you may be able to park your car. Do not drive a car that rides low to the ground as you’ll basically be driving over two small creeks and many potholes. Signs for the trailhead are nonexistent, so the gps tracker on this app is absolutely essential. The actual hike is easy, with a bit of a rock scramble at the summit, where it’s a panorama view of the mountains surrounding you.

Beautiful views all the way up the trail! View from the top was nice and had a small area if you want to sit and enjoy the view! Pretty steep incline but worth it! Work out with a view! Loved it

Me, my husband and our 3yo goldendoodle did this hike on July 28th. The hike up the falls was simply stunning and we took full advantage of the rest areas to enjoy the scenery. The view from the top was absolutely gorgeous and decided to continue on to Crabtree Meadows, the AT and then back down. If you have time, I highly recommend adding the extra miles to round out the hike.

Loved this hike, The view at the top is amazing. But the bugs at the top were INSANE. Never seen such a swarm of them in my life.

Beautiful views at the top. At times the hike was difficult but nothing too bad. I did this hike 20 weeks pregnant with my 5 year old and 7 year old. Enjoyed a lunch at the top

First time ever doing this hike and I loved it! Definitely worth it!

Easy enjoyable trail. Would recommend ☺️

My husband, daughter (age 7), son (age 5) and myself (who is 20 weeks pregnant) LOVED this hike. We did it in June. Plan to pack lunch and bring lots of water. The trail, at the time we went, was moderately trafficked with other hikers. Very enjoyable and something we will do again

Great view of the falls and even saw otters! Great time

Great hike, beautiful views!

Did this late October. Weather was perfect and the trail itself was easy for beginners. Loved the waterfall, foliage, and overlook!

Fabulous views at the top, after a somewhat challenging rock climb at the end! On the difficult end of “moderate”.
