A really fun and fairly easy winter hike. A great trail to snowshoe. Trail is easy to follow and the view at the top is amazing for the amount of effort put in.

Climbed on 1/12/19. We used snowshoes but they weren’t necessary. Spikes would have been fine. Trail nicely packed down and well marked. Beautiful views

Went out and back on 1/10/19, didn’t do the loop. Snowshoed to pack down the trail after a lot of snowfall. We saw several people out in just spikes and they did fine

Climbed this on 1/9/19. Lots of fresh snow. Snowshoes would help for sure. We broke out a good deal of the trail especially higher up. Still a very nice hike

Beautiful trail with great views from balancing rocks. Summit is completely wooded so keep that in mind but has some great viewing areas along ridge. Some sections are icy so I would say microspikes are necessary. The way up to balancing rocks is the hardest part but the rock scrambles were really fun and icy!

Trail was fine up to summit. Then frozen waterfalls thwarted us getting to the summit. Ice axes would have been required to go further. Crampons a must.

Hiked 8/19/18. Blue is my favorite firetower hike so far! It was crazy steep and very rocky the majority of the way. Once you near the top, the entire environment is well worth it! I loved how green, and mossy and fresh it became , after a good deal of hiking over steep sheets of flat stone. The variety of mushrooms was phenominal and beautiful. The views, in places along the way were amazing! At times, when we thought we had finally made it, the trail would bend and just kept going. Other hikers along the way shared the same sentiments. Still A hike I wouldnt mind doing again.

Short and easy hike to one of the best views of the high peaks. Trail is very easy and flat for the first mile, but begins to ascend the second mile. Can be confusing crossing the marsh next to the beaver pond, but shouldn't be too difficult. Just pay attention to previous tracks!

Ohhhh Baker Mt. - Super nice neighborhood locale. Trailhead across from a popular ice fishing pond. A lot of nice people walking pups. And then -the trail. It says go left and make it a loop. Don’t. No trail markers at all when it splits left. We used the shit out of this app to try and find the trail in 2” Of snow. It was a fun adventure scramble up, but icy as F and that wouldn’t be fun if you weren’t prepared. Stay to the right in the winter. Great view at the summit and nicely marked trail on the way down (to the right - which is the left going down). No kidding. Wait until summer. Probably a great trail. Winter. Oooof.

Easy hike that pays off great views of the surrounding High Peaks. We took the short trail out & back 12/30/18. Microspikes were necessary in some spots. We saw one group carrying up their snowshoes because there was definitely not enough snow to need them. About halfway in it gets fairly steep. Nothing technical, just enough to get your heart pumping. Took us 45 min to get up, spent 15 min on top, and maybe 25 min to get down.

Went up Mt Jo Loop NYE. - trailhead is back by the entrance FYI. Park and walk. Pretty moderate in the snow/ice to about half way then an ice twisted push to the summit. But a short hike up - so nothing serious. Just a careful scramble up with mandatory YakTrak or similar. Nice summit.

Great short but steep trail to a summit with amazing veiws. Trail was very icy but some areas had a nice snowpack. Would say micro spikes were essential here.

Great easy hike to start a day. Took only about 20 minutes to reach the summit. Last stretch is a bit steep and icy but nothing too serious. Anybody really could do this hike. Micro-spikes are needed though since a bit icy near summit

The trail was gorgeous!, definitely a good workout and micro spikes a must. Stunning views from the fire tower

Great trail for the little ones; just challenging enough. Micro spikes are a good idea through December and again in March-April.

Great hike, did it early morning great views from the top and short trek. Much steeper than I expected but well worth the work for the views. Bring spikes if there is any snow on the ground. Lots of ice on the rocks

pretty icy, could have used a ice axe in places. after the four false summit's the view was great. had the whole mountain nobody else around.

12/19/18, clear blue skies, no wind and 18 degrees at 10:30 am. The parking lot was full, but nobody on the fire tower trail. There was about 2” of fresh snow so the going was easy. About 1/4 mile before I got to the tower I lost the markers (lots of snow on the trees) so I bushwhacked it to the top.
Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. This is Fire Tower #20 for me. Nine more to go.

We hiked 12/17. Lots of snow on the trail but spikes made it doable. Definitely would rate a bit more than moderate. Took us 3.5 hours from car to summit and back. Definitely a steep summit but worth it. Super cloudy and snowy today so no view for us but it was a very rewarding hike. Marked well the entire way.

We hiked the trail 12/16. Took the right trail up which was marked well in most spots. Definitely packed snow and a lot of ice. Wore microspikes and had no problem. We looped down the other side which was not marked but clearly walked on so had no problem following it.

Easy hike, good views

Nice short and easy climb that offers some great views. Short trail is definitely steeper and more difficult than the long option, but offers some great views on the way up. Short trail was mildly challenging with snow and ice cover; I would definitely recommend descending on the long trail of snow and ice cover.

Hiked this loop in 4 hours in the snow on 12/9. I can’t decide whether it’s most beautiful in summer or winter. Favorite Adirondack hike so far. 360 views and plenty of space at the summit.

One of my favorite hikes in the adirondacks. Surrounded by high peaks, this is a beautiful and quick hike. Take the long trail for a more gradual incline, although personally I don’t find it much less steep than the short trail. On 12/10 the trail is completely covered in snow and ice, I wore spikes and had a pretty easy time. I’ve done this trail in all seasons and will always recommend to people who want to see the beauty of the higher peaks without having to climb them.

3rd time up Ampersand yesterday, and it was such perfect conditions!! took almost exactly 2 hrs with snow boots on, and the moment I reached the summit, the sun came out. use caution on all rocks.... plenty of ice. Great winter hike!!!!!

12/8 : Snow was packed down pretty good. Wore crampons the entire time and had no issues. Awesome views when you summit

I'll continue the theme of 'spectacular' and 'stunning'! Today the trees were heavy snow covered and the firetower ice blasted. Come with some spikes, and be prepared for the firetower wind. Find yourself a clear morning and enjoy!

Great half day hike. This recorded trip doesn’t completely match the way the trail blazes lead. Lots of snow and ice on the trail. Did this on 12/8

Spectacular hike! Snow covered trails and heavy snow and ice draped pine trees made this a winter wonderland... amazing views at the top ..makes for a terrific sunrise hike. Spikes are a must!
