Steep climb but well worth it! The trail is exposed and no water available on trail so go prepared.

Beautiful trail! We ran into no other hikers either the entire hike. Its a hidden gem of Malibu.

So my girlfriend and I hiked this one today. We hike at least twice a week between 4-8 miles each hike. This one was definitely not an easy one.
To add to it we kinda took a wrong route before around the campsite and up some little trail of about 2 miles. Wasted energy and end of July heat was so amazing. Lol.
Overall it’s a great hike with beautiful reward at the end. The pond had water btw. It’s a bit of incline for the first 2.5 miles and totally worth it. Not for beginners though. We loved the solidarity cause no one is hiking this trail. We were the only one there. Probably cause it hard with no waterfall reward at the end. Would do it again.

I love the hike ,because it was hike friendly.

excellent quiet hike

When I went on this hike on July 14th, the trails were poorly maintained. So much of the grass and brush was overgrown that for 40% of the hike you’re walking on a path a foot wide, with plants scraping at you up to you waist. The trails are also not clearly marked. The trail has little shade as well. The view of the ocean is nice, but the majority of the hike is in overgrown grass, and this view could similarly been seen by driving to an overlook. I would avoid this hike.

this was a real easy walk more than a hike but the fence around the lake took some of the ambience out of play but still a fun time

Nice views and ocean breezes, lots of bees and active hives though, its a shame it burned up...

Nice hike great view...

This is a great trail if you like some challenge. It is very narrow at points. Lots of nature, mostly shaded.

Hiked this trail in late June, starting around 11:30 am. It was hot but there was a breeze, bring plenty of water. During the week there weren’t too many people hiking so it didn’t feel overly crowded. There are plenty of places for scenic look outs. I hiked to the top and got behind the Hollywood Sign and also hiked to get in front of it as well.

A few nice views of the Coast and Ocean. Not a lot of shade so make sure it is a cool day.

We went counter clockwise and had a relatively flat trail for about 4 miles. We ended up going on Wood Fire Trail which had a long steep incline. After we made it to the top we had a heck of a view in all directions. We finished the 10.2 mile Loop in about 2:51.

This was an amazing hike. Not crowded. Had the Trail head all to myself. Climbing shoes not needed. Take lots of water

Really nice trail. From the parking lot, after approx 2 miles you can decide if to go left (see the sign from the front, bottom of the sign, or you can go right and you over the mountain, so you see the sign from the top. Totally suggested! Good for kids too, I suggest over 6 and with some trail experience

Really nicely groomed trail for the most part; shady in lots of spots too which was lovely. A couple of tiny stream crossings, and not at all crowded. No hassles with parking and the All Trails map worked perfectly. We ended up going almost 6 miles.

Nice trail. I was happy I could take my dog. There are a lot of forks in the road so the map on this app is needed.

Avoid the crowds and get there early. I started at 5:30am Saturday and had the trail all to myself. The first mile is a good incline, after that it evens out. Be careful not stepping on horse poop.

Am always surprised more people don’t hike this trail. Even on the weekend, there is just not a lot of traffic on this trail. Great vistas in the beginning and solitude for the rest of the hike. While not a difficult trail in terms of technical hiking, it’s quite a bit up, up, up for a while. This is not a beginner hike.

Primarily on paved road. Nice views. Very trafficked, lots of people and dogs out.

Love love love this trail

Great views. 90%incline all the way to the sign. Your legs are gonna feel it for a couple days after. Great hike for fitness. Run on the way down.

Pretty easy hike. First few miles are uphill. Great views, lots of wildflowers, beautiful!! Lots of mountain bikers...all friendly and courteous sharing the trail.

Beautiful and fun

Nice beginner X-country type mountain bike trail. Nice climb up to about 1100ft or so, then you get to shred down Backbone. Fast and flowy.

I've hiked this route as well when I don't have time for anything else. If you're a beginner or only hike in the Santa Monicas, this would probably be considered "moderate". But if you frequent the San Gabes or San Bernardinos, this trail will be quite easy. Good place to get your feet wet with trail running as well!

Crowded, but scenic. Watch out for other bikers and hikers.
