Good walk in the woods, some of the trail has water nearby which makes for a nice background noise.

My husband and I really enjoyed this trail and would do again when we come back to visit our friends who live a very short distance form the park. We went on a weekday around 7:30am shortly after the Crabtree entrance to the park opens which is 7am all other entrances open at 8am. Parking was free and easy. Was well shaded which kept the temperature down and the creek that you walk along side where the trail loops was great and not really any bugs attacking you although we did bug spray ourselves well prior to which is pretty good considering it was late July. Nice, even well maintained trail much more so than the CA trails that we're familiar with. Had quite a few roots and some rocks but we weren't bothered by this as we were wearing hiking shoes/boots but this trail is definitely doable in sneakers just a matter of personal preference and comfort level. I wouldn't personally consider this trail moderate it was a nice, relaxing hike but still kept your heart rate up with some changes in incline here and there and of course the humidity which was to be expected. Just FYI, there was not any drinkable water available at the time of our hike on 07/26 to refill our water bottles halfway through the hike as the nearest water fountain was out of service and the sink located outside the restroom nearby is non-potable water which it clearly indicates on the side of the water pipe so plan to bring plenty of water with you. We had not brought our Camelbaks like we normally would have as we were visiting from out of state and were attempting to keep the packing on the lighter side but will do so next time, lesson learned. But overall a great new hiking experience.

Beautiful 6 mile loop (approximately). Shaded the entire trail. Some nice elevation gains throughout. Sounds of the flowing river in the background. We had a blast!

I may be biased as I just moved here from the mountains of NC, but this trail was pretty bland in my opinion. I’d consider this more for running rather than hiking. I thought that there was gonna be a nice river on the trail; however, it was also pretty dull/bland and it’s not very appealing.

The map on AllTrails is actually drew for hiking, not biking. I dont think this is a loop trail for biking. I had to turn around the same path where I came from to get back to the parking lot. But overall the ride was fun and the trail was pretty. Very well maintained trail.

Very busy trail on the south side of Umstead. It's pretty rustic so most of the time you're looking down to avoid stumbling over roots or rocks. I'm amazed how people run this trail with ease. In general, I favor the northern side of Umstead as they provide more solitude and are less rustic.

Many of the trails are marked poorly and duplicate as biking trails. The trails are thin and impassible so you must always look behind you when hiking, reel the pup in, and step aside to let bikers pass. It makes the time in nature a little less enjoyable.

Reedy creek trail is for bikers, only becomes interesting when on loblolly. And that trail is recommended . Wouldn’t recommend this loop

I took my son and my dog, it was a lot of fun to hike. It was also pretty scenery, especially hiking next to the creek. It was a good 6.3 miles starting at the Reedy Creek entrance parking lot and doing the entire company mill loop - very fun!

Well marked trail. It pumps your heart rate up for a good work out. Pretty scenery and peaceful. Make sure you take your time to admire the creeks, and bridges.

Beautiful spot. So near the airport but rarely heard planes. Lots of wildlife to be seen and heard. The loop was moderate as advertised. It was a welcome diversion after work!

Great spot to take the pups. Had tons of fun playing in the river and he got to see some squirrels as well!

Best 82 year birthday present ever from hiking buddy James. First time around loop counterclockwise. Back part along Sycamore Creek was a challenge. Recharged on downhill stroll back to iron bridge then huffed and puffed back up to parking lot. Thanks to all for such a treasure!

Took the dogs and the 8 yr old on a rainy day. Had basically the whole place to ourselves. When the downpours came we were covered by trees so barely even noticed. It was a long 7 miles with the older dog and the kiddo but I along with the pup could have kept going. Quite a few roots to look out for if youre running it but a pretty easy hike, just long. It is really nice to have something do quiet and secluded right in the heart of Raleigh.

I really enjoyed this trail. Very well marked!! I was surprised, however, when the park didn't open until 0700.

I love Umstead. this is an easy to get to trail that is too busy on weekends, but pretty quiet on weekdays. You can wander off trail and find lots of cool spots to hang out.

nice river which runs along the trail, went when the leaves were bare and it was beautiful.

Good trail. Nice woods and paths and streams. Only caution is to know that Loblolly ends before the lake( not as indicated on the all trails map). The trail joins another that takes you further for a total hike of about 12 miles. This latter part is less well marked but worth it. Would definitely do again but plan my return time better if doing the full length as noted on the all trails APP

Needed a short walk; went from parking lot to creek, crossed and followed a short ways then came back. Wide trail, pleasant walking, pretty views along the creek. Enjoyed.

Excellent afternoon on the Trails - If you have never been here, and live within an hour of the park you are cheating yourself.
The trails is really an easy trail, and the hills are small and the terrain is forgiving...

For the most part the trail is well under a canopy of trees, and the breeze was consistent.
We lived in the Raleigh area years ago, and on a weekend getaway we decided to hit this park...
And so glad we decided to change plans and hit Umstead!

You will love all 11 miles - (We also took on Sal's Branch/Loop)
There is a trail here for everyone

Beautiful park but this trail is not “hard” difficulty level. The path is a very level and wide sand and grave path like a road; although there is a lot of elevation to traverse it does not require much thought or effort and feels rather domesticated.

Kiosk and Warren Family graveyard on Reedy Creek Road. Misses the best part of the trail but cuts off about a mile.

Nice trail for a peaceful walk.

Not maintained at all. Had to double back numerous times to find the trail. Eventually I lost the trail completely and turned around. Lasted only about 1 mile. Will give it one more try and walk it. However my first impression is this trail is not worth your time.

Well trafficked, but that’s ok as the loop takes you deep in the woods. Great views of the creek at the mill and “picnic rock”. I like doing the loop counter clockwise, going against the main traffic allows for more private periods. Most hikers don’t do the entire loop so you get the back 1/3 to yourself.
