I love how close to Boulder it is! Great views and a good workout

Very steep and a bit slippery on the way down. Very busy but it was Earth Day afterall! Good views!

Started out OK, but there were a lot of dogs off leash and they really stressed my support dog, Sierra, out. I admit I was pretty high, so I'm not sure how she lost her support animal vest. But it really messed up the reset of the hike, The cops came as well because some of some hassle between a biker and a nude runner. They just bummed me out, bad vibes from the very start.
Oh I also lost my keys. So big buzzkill on the west side of the trail.

Wonderful workout! Definitely a steep trek

Nice hike on the east portion of the trail. Know that the west portion of the trail isn't really a trail and you must walk (or bike) on the side of the dirt road.

It was an okay walk. Almost half of it is on a dirt road with lots of vehicle, bike, and runner traffic. A lot of off leash dogs as well. Some nice views. Will choose a different 5 mile walk next time.

Yaaaaahhhh! Gorgeous day, friendly people on the trail. Steep at times, short and fun.

Wonderful hike with my girls, ages 11 & 13.

The wildflowers are beautiful right now. I would consider Mount Sanitas trail difficult though.

This is rated moderate, but it’s that if you are a seasoned hiker. Steep steps up and down, very rocky. Awesome views! Good trailhead parking.

Today, 4/08/18, I needed something to do. After doing some homework. Bierstadt it was. Being from Minnesota, hiking ...lets just say the mountains are a different beast. After reading numerous reviews here: my 4 year old had his first summit to the dogs and 100's...and 100's of people to contend with..well, didnt sound too challenging. But, I did read a few well written reviews to go prepared.
Not nearly for what I was about to face.
left late...really late from F.Collins (2:30pm) arrived at what was apparently the Silver Dollar parking lot as the road to the Guanella pass summit was still closed for the season...my homework skills need honing. talked to a guy there that was going to do some skiing and he thought the trailhead to Bierstadt would be a couple of miles. lucky I brought my winter gear including Sorrels, ski mask and micro spikes. headed up the hill at about 4pm. didnt need the spikes but postholed more than a few times but not bad. An hour later I was at the trailhead. Id say the wind was 40+ and the temp around 0. I knew a front was coming in but looking off to the west it seemed to be coming a good couple of hours early. I was alone and the only soul I had seen was a couple skiing down right as I set off...I really wished I had that idea..I need to think this over, if only I could get in the outhouse - frozen halfway shut and buried in snow. I get it open and have a seat. I decide to at least go a bit before turning back. I see what appears to be the start of the trail by the marker and another marker some 30 yards out. Off I go...postholing it every step. Wow..where are the snowshoes... (even those didnt seem to help one reviewer and his friends) Anyways, I realize Im out of my league here and want to see another day so after 20 or so yards of this I turn back down the mountain thinking of those skiers. Once back to my car the Blizzard hits with full force and Im out of there. I have to say..the whole experience - including the solitude and the views walking back down were soooo worth it!!!

Nice late afternoon hike with my baby, quiet despite being close to highway. Beautiful scenery and easy access to the creek to dip your hands or feet.

Love the views of Boulder on the climb up. Rapid elevation climb. Plenty of people on the path but not crowded. Was a bit muddy and still bits of snow at the top April 1.

Awesome hike with a beautiful view at the top! We took Sunshine Trail to Lion’s Liar, then the Mt. Sanitas trail down. Weather was perfect. We were worried about the ice and slush reports, but the trail was perfect. Age ranges in our group were ages 5 to 43 and we did 5.5 miles in just over 3 hours at a steady but easy pace.

Tough hike due to the quick elevation gain- probably deserves a bit higher than a moderate ranking. Beautiful trail though!

Great trail. A little muddy when we went. Took the west leg first and it was quite the workout. Lots of stone stepping.

Great trail. Very busy. If you are bringing a dog you should know that it is sketchy in certain sections.

My husband and I hiked this trail today. We took Sunshine Trail that linked to the Lions Lair Trail. I am SO glad we started this way.
The hike down from Mount Sanitas should be rated as HARD. Knee high boulders all the way down. If you want to stay on a moderate trail, turn around at the top and go back down to Sunshine Trail. I was sure glad I had my trekking poles to assist my knees with all those rocks!

great trail, just make sure u have nobs and not street tires like my self.

Go West way up - beautiful and aerobic - great weather in am today

Great walk for anyone. Loved that I was able to use the stroller and still managed to be able to get down to the water.

It is a good hike with views along the entire trail. There are many rock formations along the trail where people stop to boulder. It is pretty steep on the way up, but was more gradual on the back side of the mountain. The peak was fairly crowded, even on a Wednesday. Overall I enjoyed the hike.

Not so much moderate. More hard. Approaching the loop and heading to the right you have a slight grade for a mile which is deceiving. Boulders ahead! Pretty challenging for me and my Cattle Dog.

Great trail for a relaxing ride. Constant view of city.

Very popular, mostly college kids and we were the oldest at 64 yrs. However I would not say it was moderate at all, but hard! High stepping up log”stair master “ and mostly knee high boulder climbing. Pretty views and really nice at the summit. Two hrs up and one to get down for us. Big wind gusts and temp drop coming down, but sunny. Ran into two rangers who said this should be labeled hard. Many dogs, so that’s always a plus! My dog loved it and worn out today! So if you are older with compromised knees, it will kick your butt. But we were proud to finish! Didn’t go down the other side as heard it’s still icy/ loose gravel in that side.

We only did a portion of the hike. The wind picked up and it got to be a little much. I would definitely go during the week. Parking was full in the lot and we had to park quite a ways down the street so that is the only reason for 4 vs 5 stars! I will be back to do the whole loop!

First 14er. The gain in elevation was harder than expected for my friend and I, which meant the hike took longer than we had planned. Best views I've ever had and the experience was exhilarating! Make sure you have plenty of water, protein and healthy fats snacks(nuts, bars, etc.). Went in October 2016, temp went back and forth between just a hoodie and needing a wind resistant, thermal coat.

Very crowded on the trail but I went on a clear day. Be careful going down the mountain as there was still plenty of snow and ice. I managed just fine without spikes but it would have made it a lot easier with them. All in all, absolutely amazing hike with a view that makes walking straight up for 2 miles feel rewarding.

Nice open space, wide path, views of the city.
