cleats highly recommended on easterly descent
This is a fantastic trail! Great views the entire way not obstructed by anything. Saw some deer and many birds. Hiked at sunrise and it was worth it! The Caves are more like oblong donut holes, and all are at the very top in one area. Stunning. Many off trails you can do to get great pictures of cliffs and unique views. I live a few hours from this, but would come back just for this. It's got to be the best hike in the area. So good!
Sunny beautiful hike! The snow capped mountains were majestic! A bit muddy but not bad.
great hike!
The hike was beautiful and worth it. But was definitely tough for me on the way up.
Great! Long incline with lots of switch backs, but plenty of places to stop in shade. Beautiful views, The caves at the top were also beautiful! Will go back. No ice and hardly any mud.
Beautiful views, but this time of year it is treacherous on the ice-packed north face. The snow has melted and re-frozen, resulting in a glazed, smooth, ice sheet. It's not a short ice sheet, either. It starts and stops for over a mile. Spikes are critical to your safety. If you are prepared it has beautiful views. It took us 4 hours to do what otherwise might have taken half the time in non-ice conditions.
Nice views, especially the first 2 miles. I did it with a pup and she rocked it; microspikes were critical to having an enjoyable hike (pretty icy).
Loved this hike! I was visiting for work from Miami and finished in about an hour and a half. It’s a little steep for someone living at 8 ft above sea level but the views were amazing. A little mud and ice on the trail but nothing serious.
Hiked this trail on 03/28/21 around 8:00 a.m. Some parts of the trail were muddy. I had some spikes with me but I ended up just fine with my hiking boots. The cave was amazing and had an awesome view! As someone is who not really in shape, it’s not too bad. Definitely recommend for sure!
Upper trail packed with hard snow, perfect for a hike. Beautiful scenery.
Good hike, not as pretty as it usually is since it's not winter anymore and not quite spring. A little muddy in parts, but mostly just wet packed down dirt.
Always nice, but march is the muddy, drab time
This was a really fun hike! I would say spikes are necessary when there is snow on the ground. There were icy parts, but I never felt in danger, even in the sections of the trail that have cliffs nearby. You get a lot of the elevation gain at the first part of the hike, so if you feel up to a steep hike with great views as a reward, this hike is for you!
