A fun and relatively easy hike. You start in North Ranch and end in a vista and loop around. It gets really hot, so start early in the morning. While a nice hike, I like others in the area more for some reason (Wildwood/Sycamore Cyn/Lang Ranch Simi are).

This was a fun hike. I left at 320ish in the morning and made it to the peak right before sunrise for some awesome views. If you go at night make sure you're comfortable with walking through spider webs, because it's pretty much spider webs all the way up. I had to wave a stick a stick in front of me the entire time.

Very challenging hike on the accent for the top 2 miles. Trail is straight up, washed out and deeply scarred.
Much of the trail is covered by tall growth. Watch for poison oak in the waterfall areas. Some cool land marks to see though.

Challenging but amazing view of ocean and many towns from top!

Strenuous hike for sure . 4.5 miles uphill towards the top and then 4.5 down steep path. Past Danielson Monument it gets a little rugged, loose rocks and narrow path/trenches . Make sure to leave very early and bring lots of water as it is an unshaded hike for the most part. Also lots of branches as the trail is not maintained so be prepared for some scratches. Hardest hike I’ve done but worth it for the view.

It’s very nice once you get to the top. Definitely do it in the morning because it gets hot going up

Like others said, it's a challenging hike. Most of the trail is exposed, with the exception of a small piece when you pass the Danielson monument and before the manzanitas. I did this on a hot sunny day, so I would recommend it on a cool overcast day or in dry winter times, although it was chilly at the peak. The trail is also not that well maintained, but it's worth it with the view at the top.

i would rate this as a easy to moderate trail on difficulty. i think people rate the difficulty based on distance. Nice trails throughout

Up the China Flat Trail. Back down the Suicide Trail. Fun hike. Great views. The app map was helpful as there a lot of little trails at the top. As long as you have the hike locked in before you start, even with no cell coverage, map keeps working with GPS. Very little shade. Take plenty of water. Not a good midday summer hike. Was nice in the morning.

Nice long hike with changing scenery. Definitely go counter-clockwise if hiking. Not overly difficult - not entirely sure why this is rated as “Hard”: Perhaps it’s the distance?

Started from the backbone Trail, we did it all the way up to the summa trail until they waterfall, but it’s not any water at all so we don’t want to come back to the same trail so we went up and did the loop. Between the river and dry water fall going up to do the loop I lost a brown whit blue hat and blue bandanna, little bear if some one find it. Please look for me at face book. Please sent me a message. It my hiking partner. Emilia Cotto . My profile is a little girl with a hat.

This hike is NOT moderate! It was very challenging but worth the satisfaction of reaching the Peak. The views are stunning. It gets chilly once you reach the top so dress in layers, bring plenty of water, snacks, hiking sticks, and your mental fortitude. I would need to train a lot more before attempting this hike again.

Beautiful views. Sections of the trail are just breathtakingly amazing!! Not much shade on the first half of the trail. Didn’t see many other hikers.

Hiked this trail and loved it. I only saw one other person the entire time. The views at the top are fantastic.

Went on this hike recently. Had some issues figuring out where the waterfall was located. Got turned around a few times trying to refer to the alltrails map. We could see the falls so we ended up taking a little side trail off of the Backbone trail and made it up to the falls. Absolutely beautiful, with lots of running water and a few tiers to it. We even climbed up the side of it further and there were more trails on top of the falls. Really great hike, would recommend!

More difficult than moderate, I would say, but a lot of fun if you're up for steep climbs and rugged trail. Bring extra water, and go in winter or spring if possible (due to heat). Start early. My brother and I are experienced hikers, we hiked this with no prior knowledge of it and were pleasantly exhausted and sore at the end of the day. We got some great photos at the top. It has become one of our favorite hikes together.

China Flat semi loop w/Semi Peak. 6.1 mi total. Started 1400 King James Court and went up China Flat trail, then to Simi Peak trail. On the way back we to took Suicide Trail back to China Flat. It was a sunny but really nice day. Not too warm and every once in a while got just a tad chilly. But really it was perfect. This would be really tough on a hot day, there is just a couple of small spots with shade. Beautiful views. We were able to see mountain tops with snow (one of which should be Mt. Baldy but i can't tell) and also channel islands.

Anyone know how far into the trail is the hike? anyone know?

LONG, only a couple of longer climbs. But a great day trip.

Day after heavy rains but still hikeable. Definitely needed trekking poles for the slick muddy areas.
There’s no signs stating “Boney Mtn ➡️ this way”
Parts of the path was overgrown and single track but still obvious where the direction of the trail.
It’s between moderate and difficult, I think.
The views are worth it!

Really a nice hike.

This is a great trail. It is strenuous and adventurous. There are places where you need to go over boulders and rock faces.

It is a bit confusing to find the trailhead, but the direction on all trails is accurate.

The arch towards the end and Simi peak are great places for photograph. There are also multiple places for photos all along the trail.

No lake anywhere in site. Pretty boring, you just walk along tract homes

Nice hike. little bit of a workout at the beginning, but once you get to the top, totally mellow. Great views

Recommend having an app like this or AllTrails for reference on the hike. We missed a turn off the trail- a bit tough and uphill to recover. Saw quail on this venture.

Not a good trail
