10-15-18 The parking lot is closed. Park off the highway and the trailhead is 1/4 mile. Bathrooms were unlocked, but have no running water. Outstanding hike. Tons of room to explore at the end of the trail. Waterfall was small at this time.

It a pretty fun trail. I’m fairly new to hiking and am a pretty heavy gal so this was a great beginning trail for me. There were a few spots that were slightly challenging but overall it was a beautiful hike. I would recommend hiking down to the stream on the southwest side of the bridge and lookout point, there is a great spot to rest and chill by the creek.

Started at Tahoe rim trail up to the summit. This took me 5-6 hours to complete and I was hiking it up the hill. Was pretty winded going up and I consider myself physically active- this was worth the treck. Wish I would have worn better shoes and a jacket and had gloves. Once you get to the top it’s freezing and lots of snow. My shoes were muddy and wet and ice cold hands. Was a great cardio workout on the way up. My legs definitely felt this on the way up and down the summit. Just sitting at the top the views are amazing. Highly recommend starting early. I started at 11ish and got back around 5-530. I did stop and take a lot of pictures and also sat at the top for about 20 minutes. Worth the treck to go up. It does get steep in some areas.

Super fun bouldering toward the upper part of the falls. The trail is not always real obvious, but you’re always in cell service and GPS works great. Lots of friendly people on the trail, too. The lower part of the trail is pretty shady and there are a lot of picture perfect places to stop along the way.

Great trail, yes, hard to find the trail head but it's there, little rough down by falls, but well worth it, I did it with my dog in about 2.5 hours, morning hike b4 football Sunday....

Took me 4 hours to complete, counting my little break I took on the lookout by the falls. Overall, the trail loop is very pretty, nicely shaded, and well cut, however, for about half of the west section of the loop it was terribly overgrown and not well marked. The lack of trail at one point and even less markings made me a little disoriented for the last quarter of the west side of the loop. But once I got through that by climbing logs and pushing/cutting a whole bunch of branches, the falls and the eastern part of the loop back made it all worth it:)
Bring bug spray, I was also being followed by a little cloud of gnats for a lot of the time

Fun & easy hike! I even saw families with little ones (ranging ages 4-10ish), so good for family fun. It’s currently off season right now, but during season (I wanna day it’s Memorial Day to Labor Day? Ish?) you can take a tour of the Vikingsholm Estate. Definitely planning on going back for that! Beautiful views!

Beautiful hike.
Gorgeous views of Cascade Lake and Lake Tahoe.
Trailhead easy fairly to locate (at the very back of bay view campground), not a lot of parking especially on a busy weekend.
Trail to the general ‘falls area’ is short but narrow and pretty rocky.
Once you reach the general ‘falls area’ there is no defined trail, lots of space to wander.
Lots of rushing water in the spring, only a trickle in the fall but there are some beautiful fall trees.
Dog friendly.

Best in winter/spring when the falls are flowing. Trail is a little difficult to follow.
Views are stunning at the top.

Beautiful!!!

This hike was essential in completing my goal to summit all of the peaks in the Tahoe Basin. Despite being one of the tallest, the hike wasn’t very difficult. I enjoyed the stream crossings, the aspens changing colors, and meadow views, but the last part of the hike above the tree line was brutally windy.

To me, this trail was just meh. Not enough of a challenge - lots of fairly flat trail with moderately picturesque views. What made it nicer were the aspens changing colors for the fall. It was a supremely windy day, which isn't the trail's fault, but it really was not enjoyable once we got above the tree line. Once we reached the summit, the views were only so-so. I personally don't find the city of Reno to be especially enchanting, even from afar. I did like seeing Lake Tahoe Basin from a new angle. Not sure if/when I'll do this one again, but at least it's off the list.

I went yesterday Tuesday, October 9, 2018, and it was chilly and windy but sunny. First few miles were pretty easy but then the grade increases and you know why it’s rated moderate. Last half mile was traipsing through snow and ice but the trail was easy to see from many footprints. Great views along the way and at the top. There was snow along the trail 1.5 miles in but not really on the trail itself until the last mile. Took me less than 4 hours but I hogged (hiked/jogged) down. Drank less than 1L and only had an energy bar and an apple even though I brought far more water/snacks. Fun hike!!

I loved the history and melancholy this place brought, to spend a summer in the forest nestled between majestic mountains and the gorgeous blue Tahoe, what could be more relaxing from our hectic lives! I hope you can find close by parking outside the fee area and ready yourself to descend down into history. The tour was simple and short with quick photo ops but your $10 goes to a good cause to protect history as well as the beauty of the area. the missing 5th Star is for the crazy crowds! timing is everything to avoid the worst of it. I hike because I love solitude in creation which this does not provide, so go for the history and not the adventure of the hike. it was a nice little work out to push yourself at 90 to 100% of your effort back up the hill and then you'll feel you've accomplished it all, just don't run over the other tourists struggling up the hill, they deserve a great experience too!

great view and fun hike!! there is alot of dog poop on the trails so watch where you step

Paved the whole way to the falls lookout. Nice walk. Falls are dry right now but sure they’re blasting in the spring.

A bit confusing but it’s pretty hard to get too lost on this trail! Beautiful and fun to explore. I am not in the best of shape but was easily able to do this hike.

Beautiful hike. I went counter clockwise. Practically all downhill to the falls with a slight grade on the way back. The view of Feather Falls and the ravine is more than worth the hike.

So many lakes and vistas! Great for dogs as well.

I brought my non-hiking family in the first week of October. With a lot of breaks and snacks, it took us six hours there and back on the same trail.
The trail is really well-maintained and has unbelievable views. The summit was very snowy and windy so be prepared for the cold and have good boots. We got to about a few minutes to the summit and decided not to risk it this time. I hope I can come back in the summer and get all the way up!

At 4.7 miles, the Bear Lakes Loop is a perfect afternoon hike. It takes a couple of hours and offers enough of challenge to leave you satisfied. Where this trail really excels is scenery. Nearly every turn in the trail provides a postcard-beautiful view. Highly recommended.

Was hard to follow at times. Loved the ability to stop and enjoy the water on the way back. Got caught in a little rain. Be careful! Rocks became slick pretty quickly.

Pretty short and easy. The views of the lake are amazing. We did this hike the first weekend of October. The sound and views of cascade falls are beautiful. It probably took us 20 minutes one way, maybe less. You can explore further than the falls if you want, but the falls are a great place to stop and have a snack. Even if you’re not a hiker or someone who keeps active, this hike is fairly easy and the views are well worth the travel.

We didn’t realize parking is available in the campground right in front of the trailhead. Although there isn’t an abundance of parking there, it is available. There are signs indicating where parking for the trailhead are allowed. Just FYI for anyone thinking you have to park on the road outside of the campground.

Nice hike. Path starts out flat and even then turns Rocky. My adventure took me about 1.5 hours total but I stopped at the water and explored for a good 45 minutes. I hear it is better when there is more water but there was still a sloping stream to explore. Very peaceful if not crowded. I went on a Monday morning and it wasn't too crowded and I found parking.

Beautiful views!

Very windy day but such a beautiful hike.

This is a trail -- or area -- you can customize to your own level/desires due to the number of criss-crossing options. I hiked early morning with the hills and coast in a fog and found this just completely beautiful and mesmerizing. Besides the first steep incline, the loop trail can be kept pretty easy, but if you want more of a challenge, work in a couple of jaunts to the peaks, you can even approach them from different sides to amp it up even more. There are also some interesting old cypress trees to admire in addition to all the wildflowers. I imagine this is really beautiful on a clear, sunny day as well. There were enough locals jogging or walking their dogs to keep it from being too creepy. But it didn't feel crowded at all.
