This was a great hike, lightly traveled. paths were pretty well marked and the camp out alcoves gave us a great spot to sting up out hammock and take a lunch break. while we did not stay at the inn, we did go by it and it looked very nice. we took a break in the front verandah and refused in the shade with a power bar. according to my gps watch we did the trail in 6 hours with a couple breaks and from door of our car back to the door of our car it was 10.71 miles. we parked in the lot at the top of the falls by the snack stand. oh yes, there was a snack stand and restrooms which was nice! ... I'm writing this review late. we hiked on Saturday 8/11/18.

Pretty tough hike but so well worth it once you see some of the views.

Getting my butt up that mountain was definitely a great work out but it wasn’t as challenging as I thought it was going to be based off the reviews. Also... I was super nervous to bring my dogs after reading the reviews as well but my two 60+ lbs dogs made it up no problem!! They really enjoyed it!! Super fun hike.. well maintained trail... only downside is there was a scorpion in the bargirls bathroom

Enjoyable hike out to the Inn with a couple day stay. We loved the Rhododendron groves and the hike took about 4 hours with our 3 year old walking halfway and 5 year old doing the entire path.

One of personal favorite waterfalls in Georgia. I am totally in love with this beauty. A fabulous hike to the fall a great workout of about 7.5 mile. I have visited here quite a few times and ready to be there anytime again.

A good workout hike uptill the top of the cliff. The waterfall is gorgeous and accessible. I went in the fall and the water was icecold but it was fun to be able to reach to it. Had a great time.

Hike/walk. The incline is absolutely killer but it’s a great workout and the views are gorgeous, on the way up and very rewarding at the top. Recommended!!

Awesome trail, we had such a wonderful hike. The weather was perfect. Lots of shade and a wonderful workout! Preachers Rock was a magnificent view, totally worth it!

Had a wonderful hike today with my wife. The falls are so worth the trip. But as others have said boots not shoes. I'm also looking to go back and enjoy some camping along the trail.

Tough hike for me but well worth the views at the top. Will do this one again.

Gorgeous trail with a great rest stop at the inn, in which you can book a night

This was such a fun trail with multiple beautiful overlooks at the top. Most people turn left onto the AT when they make it to the intersection and are met with a steep incline and tons of rocks, but if you curve to the right and continue onto Byron Reese, you will have a slow and much more doable incline. We did this and thought the trail was fairly easy because of it. Wear good shoes and socks! The trail is so rocky.

enjoyable hike to the falls. the trail to the top is a workout.

awesome trail with great views. not to strenuous until the last climb to the waterfall. worth the climb.

Hiked a total of 3.8 miles so we went just a short way past Preacher's Rock. Not a hard hike at all and I will definitely do it again.

Good hike

Easy trail along Scenic Smith Creek, but costs $3 per person and is usually busy: hardly “lightly trafficked,” as indicated. Still, we saw a small bear across the creek. Nice.

This is a stroll not a hike :-) The falls are worth visiting.

Hike killed me but great view

Very nice hike to the waterfall and back out the same way, which is 7 miles and is what most people do, as the part past the waterfall to the other trail head is very steep and difficult. The 7 mile hike that we did to the waterfall and back is along the creek and very fun, with ups and downs and boulders and such to climb around. You can swim at the pool in front of the waterfall, and many people set up hammocks or tents and hang around for the day. Lovely.

Steady climb all the way up. Some great views at the top. Fun trail.

Be cautious after rain, muddy steps on steep inclines make this trail dangerous

Nice, peaceful trail. Saw a small bear by the parking lot.

Arrived at the trailhead by 8:15 on a Friday morning. I came after several days of heavy rain and definitely had to navigate some muddy spots. But it was well worth it. The river was roaring and the falls were awesome. I didn’t come across anybody until on my way back out. Finished and back to the car by 10:15. I thought this a relatively easy hike until the end where you do see more elevation gain. For anybody hesitant to go on this trail you do come across several falls early on and could definitely turn around sooner and would still be satisfied. Followed it up with a trip to Dukes Creek Falls and then some wine tasting in Helen. Lovely North GA day trip.

Nice hike but more crowded than I would like on a weekend. Mid June and the rhodedendrons were just starting to bloom at the start of the trail. Almost no blooms yet higher up. The mushroom and fungus diversity was spectacular.

Tough hike but well worth it for the panoramic views! Will go again for sure.

We love this hike on the AT. Short hike with just enough incline to work up a sweat. Go during the week to avoid the crowds. Amazing view from the top. 5 months pregnant and completed the hike with no issues. Prettier views than Ramrock mountain. No stream crossings. Some switchbacks near the summit. Great place to bring visiting family or friends. Will definitely return.

Some of these reviews were making me nervous to do it, but it ended up being not too bad. To experience the falls from the lower level was amazing and definitely worth scooting on our butts with a 70 lb pit bull. We couldn’t find the part with ropes. Always use caution though, it’s that slick dirt, thank goodness for all the roots and trees. Pictures on my instagram! @mcken__z

Moderate is a good description for this hike. The beginning has some hilly areas with the middle a mostly flat jaunt through the woods. As you near the waterfall, the trail becomes more difficult but it’s worth it!! I love trails that follow the streams so that you can hear the rushing water for the majority of the hike. Beautiful waterfall!!
