Fun Trail, Awesome Views!

Had a wonderful hike to Ralston Peak. The views were just spectacular. During the hike, I thought of all the brave firefighters that are battling the many wildfires. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are putting their lives on the line.

Beautiful, peaceful, flat, family friendly trail. So glad we stopped here and saw these trees.

Wow, you have to see the big trees to take in their enormity. Breathtaking! Great hike, take your bug spray.

amazing hike, minimal traffic

Smoke shortened the hike and ruined the views, but was great otherwise. Be careful - very easy to get messed up with many unmarked trails crossing.

Good solid grind going up. Still hazy but the view is still amazing. Bring water! I brought 3 liters and drank 1.5. Always have more then you think you’ll drink. Having less is horrible

enter and exit with Sunshine but in the middle of the trail there might be frost and slight rain so the road is a little muddy.

Climbed to the rocky peak without any difficulty. So Smokey at top due to Yosemite fire could barely see the lakes below.
Ran into very large rattle snake on trail. 11 rattles.
Climbed Whitney 2 days later.

We actually went on this trail two days in a row, and parked at the Valley View drive parking lot both times. The first day we intended to reach Cougar Rock and Top of the World. However, we took a left on the ART instead of a right, so instead we got some beautiful forest. The next day, we took a right on the ART and got to those destinations.

Top of the world is not clearly marked but it should be evident once you get to the top of a hill after climbing switchbacks with little blocking foliage.

There were a fair number of insects—most harmless flies, but some mosquitoes as well. I highly recommend insect repellent

Well marked trails and well maintained, lots of points of entry.

This trail has many options of different length hikes. They provide paper maps at the trail head to help navigate though the park.

A great city escape; trail is narrow and temperatures can vary quite a bit as you walk around Mt. Sutro, but still a must do trail

Easy trail with a couple of steep switchbacks but definitely a beginner trail. There’s lots of poison oak, runners, dogs, and bikers, but the trail gets deep enough into the forest to provide an urban escape with mist and silence punctuated by bird calls and creaking trees.

Trail has many options for all levels of hikers. Many shady portions and great facilities. Make sure to bring plenty of water. The hidden trail leads you to some great overlooks and you can hike down to the trail. Make sure to reserve the day before. $4.00 for half day 6:30am-9:30am / All day $8.00. No cell reception so take screenshots of your confirmation when you reserve. Take a picture of the trail map before you head out.

Got pretty hot, pretty quick. we did the loop in reverse so the dogs could play in the water. great trail.

Great for families.

Great final descent section of what is becoming known as a mountain biking destination for NorCal. Just have to watch out for the hikers that are unaware this is predominantly used by mountain bikers.

Gorgeous trails with views of the river. This is a great hike for a hot day because there are so many places to take a quick dip and cool off.

Amazing trail. Highly recommended for those looking to build speed and gives amazing scenic views.

Beautiful views, easy/ moderate

I am not the most in shape, but I would still say this trail is more easy than moderate. Not so much to see, other than the river, which you walk above for a lot of the trail. The climbing area was beautiful; we ended our hike there

A beautiful hike in the.middle of the city! This trail really makes you feel like you are out of the city and out in the forest where you can only hear the sound of trees in the wind. I went in July and there were so many cherry trees and plum trees with fruit. Def recommend!! Lots of mountain bikers like to rise here.

Wouldn’t hike this trail again. Not much shade. River is a long ways down. Not accessible except at the start. All up hill.

Beautiful, go early take 2 or 3 water bottles. Take it easy and stop to enjoy the views. Take photos, you may get a great one for your Christmas card

Ralston is without a doubt one of my favorite trails around Tahoe, at least for summit views. The trek up is pretty straight forward starting as a dirt hike across moderate switchbacks before kicking up to a more aggressive mix of loose rock and more dirt as you leave the treeline. Given the consistent exposure and fairly steep upper section, be sure to bring plenty of water (see many people hiking this as if it's a couple city-miles rather than mountain ones.) For the effort, the view up top is all the reviews say and then some with so many lakes, peaks and forest lands to take in at once.

Conditions as of this post: All dirt, no major obstacles, fairly easy to follow the trail though do pay attention on the upper sections as the path can fade out over the boulders. Bring extra water, good shoes for the steeper climb, layers for the exposed summit.

This hike was awesome. Especially for our fist ever hike! My mom and I were hesitant about doing a 5 mile hike but we made it though and loved every moment of it.
