This is a great, challenging hike. I have done a bunch of the high peaks including Marcy and this one is on par. It can be easy to lose the trail sometimes so you should stay alert and pay attention, might be wise to bring a map or GPS. Also, if you're going to the fifth peak lean to, you can miss the yellow markers pointing to it because the trail forks and the signs are not positioned great. I did and ended up far past it, I did not have a map or GPS but did pull up All Trails and found that I had missed it. I would do this hike again if I was in the area.

Awesome trail! Make sure to wear the proper shoes though!

Hiked Thomas today and the views at the top were gorgeous. As someone who is relatively new to hiking, I found the climb to be rewarding and very acceptable to new hikers out there looking for a new challenge. The terrain was sporadically covered with snow or leaves but I wore micro spikes and would recommend them for stability and safety.

Awesome views!!! Really bummed about the communication tower. However, it did sound like a passing helicopter, HA! It was a very nice hike, other than that. The stream is just beautiful. It was very wet today, maybe it’s not always like that, but we didn’t mind at all. We just changed socks at the top and we were all just fine. Trail was easy to follow and will be back in the summer.

Great intro trail! A little wet after a rain since it follows creek beds for a while.

Awesome hike today on this trail! As a beginner it was a bit challenging but my buddy and I got through it. It was well worth it at the summit very nice views!

Blue trail was easy and pretty, the yellow was fun with great views !

this trail was covered in blowdowns and poorly blazed in parts. at times it was difficult to find the trail and I've never has to second guess myself so much.

views were beautiful, and terrain was very similiar to high peaks without the elevation in parts.

Great views of Lake George but the fact the fire tower has been transformed into a communication tower and the wind turbine sounds like a helicopter landing spoils the experience.

Hiked sleeping beauty today. Trail was a little wet in spots as is typical. Views were beautiful. The trail is moderate by comparison with its neighbors Black and Buck especially if you can park at Dacey clearing. That shortens the hike by about 3 miles. Although the road fromHoggs Town parking to the trail head is very nice in winter when closed. Great views, beautiful scenery just challenging enough.

Not to difficult of a hike and the view is breath taking.

Fantastic view from overlook. Relatively rocky trail. Definitely moderate or harder.

This was a great hike on a nice autumn day with my dog. We hiked the trail from Edgecomb pond to the top of Cat. The directions were a bit confusing as to parking. There are two parking lots on Edgecomb pond, both marked with the town of Bolton water shed signs. Since we parked in the first lot, our overall hike was a bit longer with some road walking. We followed the red trail to the intersection with the blue trail, and then the blue trail to the top, which ended up being 2.7 miles according to the Trails.com map app. This was a pretty nice woods walk on an old road for the first 2.2 miles, then got a bit steeper and a little rougher for the last half mile or so. The top offers a beautiful panorama view of Lake George – Tongue Mountain, the Narrows and the southern basin. The Green Mountains of Vermont were also outstanding. From the top, we followed the red trail down off the face. This way was definitely more difficult – it was steeper with plenty of wet leaves to make things interesting. The woods were very thick and the trail barely noticeable. Luckily it was well marked with red spray paint just about every 10 feet or so. Even so, I still lost the trail a couple of times. About 2/3 of the way down it opened up, with crossings of old logging roads and rock walls. There were also cairns every now and then. This trail was also a more direct route back. We were back at the car after about three hours total, including a half hour on the peak for lunch and views. Total distance was 4.7 miles.

Great view. Worth the trip. Fall is spectacular

We showed up early and trekked through muddy trails, rock-hopping and both passing hikers and pulling over to allow others to pass us by.

The rock scramble towards the end of the hike is sketchy. Both the false summit and the actual summit are beautiful views. The wind was whipping at the summit but the sun made our summit beer manageable.

On the way down we passed probably 100 hikers. I'm glad we went up somewhat early.

Muddy but worth it! Glad I was wearing boots. Drove to Dacy trailhead to avoid hiking the road...so now I have another reason to get my Jeep. Take it slow and you'll be fine, though.

This was my first actual summit. Ever. I was absolutely ready to turn around and go right back up when I saw the registration box. I really didnt want to leave...I'm officially hooked.

I made the mistake of hiking this one on indigenous peoples day when all the kids were out of school! The hike was really nice though :)

Thomas to Cat for great views and a nice return

Awesome hike but would say more difficult than some of the high peaks, need to be in aerobic shape for sure

Great hike. The dogs helped make the hike up easier then made it quite a bit more dangerous on the way down. Beautiful view at the summit.

Other than the rather anticlimactic summit due to cloud cover, it was the perfect day to get out there! Foliage was beautiful, and the hike was a nice rewarding challenge with the wet and mud!

I am not an avid hiker and agree with the moderate rating for a novice, mostly due to the terrain of rocks and roots. Lots of dogs and kids on this well traveled trail. It was quite wet and muddy so boots are a must. Too cloudy for a view today, but still was an awesome experience being in a cloud with the wind and mist swirling around you. Will be back on a sunny day

I would call this an easy hike. It was very muddy with a lot of standing water. Didn’t see any views due to the cloud cover. Will definitely hike this again in better weather.

Wonderful trail that is well kept. The views are amazing...peak to lake, there's nothing like it with medium effort.

I found this hike to be a bit challenging in that the trail was not very pleasant for footing: rocks and gravel-like path (road) in the beginning; lots and lots and lots of rocks, roots and mud pretty much the whole way up. The trail seems to have become a runoff and is heavily used. Ascent-wise it was not terribly difficult but moderate to difficult, and not strenuous as far as climbing the final ascent to the summit. I was expecting much worse! I think the challenging part for me had to do with footing on the rough terrain.

Atop you will find a lovely lookout to the right and just below the tower summit. The tower is closed, fenced off, has become a cell tower; there is a windmill there as well, which makes a lot of noise when it’s going! It was cool to see but obviously not pretty so it’s best to take a seat below, and enjoy the gorgeous view of the northern section of LG.

I have definitely seen better and maybe I will do this in the winter, thinking snowshoeing will actually be easier over the messy terrain.

Colors were starting to come out (9/28/18) clouds obscured the view initially but cleared a few minutes here and there providing a beautiful view of the lake. Fun uphill well marked trail. Began the hike at 10 am and finished around 2:30/3

Easy hike if you hike to and from Sleeping Beauty from inner parking lot. If you want to add some interest, go via Bump’s Pond which is pretty Trail. We have had a bit of rain so there was a lot of standing water and mud on upper parts of Trail (I wouldn’t wear sneakers)

Enjoyable hike. Gets rocky at some points but not terrible. Limited space to hang out and enjoy the views if there are multiple hikers at the top. But the views are beautiful even without access to the fire tower. Took about an hour to get to the summit and we flew back down pretty quickly. We did spend some extra time up there because the views are great. I definitely recommend!

This hike was more like 7.5 miles out and back. Definitely a challenge and the scrambles at the end were my first. Views were spectacular at the 2nd vista - which was easy after the first.
