Decent traction on the trail without snowshoes or spikes. Hard pack with a layer of corn snow so I never slipped on the way up. On the way down, micro spikes would provide more confidence but I never fell. Not too many people on an overcast Sunday. Great short hike!

Road is closed at forest service rd 7601. From where you park to the trail head its a extra 3.8 miles just to the trail head uphill. the first 2 miles on the road is prety hard pack no snow shoes required. about mile three on the road snow gets deeper and you will want your snow shoes. we did not make it into the trail head today sue to the deeper snow. we turned around about 2.5 miles up the road.

Traction devices not required but highly recommended today. Most of the trail was stamped down, parts were slightly slushy. I felt comfortable in yak-traks but partner opted for nothing and only slipped once. Late start. Turned back early as the sun was falling behind the mountains. Still reached a point that mirrored the view from the top luckily.

Started from Icicle Creek Road and headed on up to Colchuck Lake via the 'winter route' which adds 8 miles! Conditions were good and the snow was packed enough to need only micro-spikes for the way up. The snow covered everything and the environment was so different compared to my previous two hikes up Colchuck this past summer. The lake was completely snow covered and arctic-like. Very beautiful and quiet. Adding the extra 8 miles was an undertaking while racing the daylight down. We ended up snowshoeing down with the last 6 miles in the dark with the moon illuminating the snow here and there. It was COLD! Looking forward to hiking this again next summer!

HikingGreat!Snow

A lovely, winding trail with a little bit of elevation gain that provides a view over the town of Leavenworth and the Wenatchee River. The scene below reminded me of a patchwork quilt and put me in mind of paintings by Grandma Moses. Met a spunky Downy Woodpecker along the way. Not too busy, but it was a Tuesday afternoon. Snow was packed down on the trail and slick in some places, but Yaktrax made the up and down easy and quick.

Well kept trail, snow but no ice today. Micro spikes did the job well. Panoramic views at top! Most people were courteous and masked up when nearby.

FS road 7305 was heavily snowed so we parked at the sign and hiked up the road. the trailhead was 4.6 miles away but that's ok. we had microspikes so instead we did a nice snow hike up the road for 2.5 miles before turning around and heading back to the car. it would also make a great snowshoe trail.

There were spots of snow and ice down low on the trail but mostly a solid trail until higher up where there is much more ice and snow. I used micro spikes after falling a couple times which made the trip much easier. I accidently continued left past the fork near the top of the trail and realized my mistake when I looked back now looking down at the top of where this trail ended. So go right when you get to the top of the ridge like others have said but I'm glad to have gotten a little more elevation gain. great hike and workout. Side note: I walked to this trailhead from downtown Leavenworth so I could get in a few more miles. My total miles were 10.5 with 2,300' elevation gain and it was a very enjoyable walk through the downtown area, then along the Wenatchee River.

Started hike in the am before sun had melted ice therefore center of trails were really slippery and wish we had brought ice cleats. About 1.5 hours after sun was up, the trails softened and even became muddy at points. Expect lots of switchbacks but scenic views are great the whole hike. 3.5 hours total hike time. Assessment of difficulty is accurate. Solid 5 out of 7.

Beautiful views! On the top, you will have a trail to the right and a trail to the left. GO TO THE RIGHT. I went to the left and just after a while I realized it was another trail
