We ended up starting from the Kraft Mtn parking lot on the advice of friends and scrambling over the red rocks to join this trail, then coming back on the trail as marked on all trails, wrapping around the red rocks and back to our car. Really loved that route as the rock scramble part was gorgeous and fun. The rest of the trail is lovely too, winds through a canyon with ever changing colorful rock formations. Went in January and it was hot- bring plenty of water.

Great hike all the way up, nice and challenging at the end. best part is the 360 view at the peak, incredible! cool fort and flag up there too :) happy hiking!

Great view of Joshua Tree when you reach the top. Watch out for high winds!

Excellent rock formations at the base, a moderate hike with few trees and sweeping valley views. Great way to get some altitude in a short amount of time. Hiked on New Years Eve in blistering wind. The hiking experience on the way up overtops the payoff at the top, so enjoy the journey!

Short, a nice first stretch of the legs after a long drive to the park.

Crowded, nothing too special. View was mediocre not really a Joshua tree vibe.

Best part about this hike is climbing around on all of the different rock formations. We spent hours scrambling around and trying to get to the top of each pile of rocks. So much fun, and an experience very unique to Joshua Tree NP.

Very nice hike. Good views from the top, and challenging enough to make you work a little for it. We trail ran down which was super fun on all of rocks and “stairs”. Would definitely do again, but probably run the entire trail.

Perfect short hike that provides great views of the surrounding valley and mountains. Top of the mountain has a great stop and overlook for pictures. Challenging due to hiking uphill the whole way, but very worth it. If it’s summer, definitely pack water and sunscreen.

Went up early January 2018. Sunrise at around 6:50am, it took us about 35 minutes to get to the top, the hike is fairly easy as it’s not particularly rocky and the steps are wide and flat. Does get very windy and cold at the top (~20F) around that time. Great 360* view although not a lot of Joshua trees

Uhmm hmmmm. A good part of this loop was walking thru the parking lots of a campground? And right along the road. If you have really young kids it’s a good one.

Was kind of disappointed with this trail.
Very sandy & confusing. Not that brilliant of a sight compared to others in the area.
Nice short hike but wasn’t very impressed.

I love this hike. When you get to the top, the silence is amazing. You can hear a single car approach from miles away. The views of the dancing Joshua Trees are captivating. I can't wait to go back! (Sept. 2000)

Short and easy hike through sand to a nice viewpoint / overlook at the end. The rocks are very colorful here, I recommend to go at sunset or sunrise to get the best photos! Avoid going on a windy day unless you are okay with sand in your eyes haha.

great trail, I'd say a little anti climactic at the end though. but the trail overall was spectacular

Quite possibly my favorite hike at Joshua Tree! Challenging enough to break a sweat and really feel accomplished when you reach the stunning 360 views at the top! Be sure to bring layers and sturdy shoes, in the winter it can get cold and even have ice/snow on some parts.

The highlight for me is the early parts (pre-climb) of the Joshua tree garden, which is the largest in the world. Peak is cool, but that garden is the best. Saw a cool deer runnin around up top. If you can catch a sunrise in this area your mind will explode from pure beauty. Camp by white cross right across the road if you can.

Awesome hike! We were able to see the whole Vegas Strip once at the top. Highly recommend!

Really great workout and I thought easy to follow. There were mile markers and markers with direction arrows for the trail. We went to mile marker 4 and then turned around. Plan to work up to 5 and eventually make it to the Anthem trail and back.

Loved doing something a little different to get above the rock formations and see wilderness as far as your eyes can see. Went early and had no trouble with crowds. Lots of kids with families on the trail, which was impressive!

Busy, very chilly on Dec 29, and strenuous, but you don’t have to work very long to get to the simply stunning 360° views. If you only have a daytrip, consider making it your first hike and the other scenic loops will seem easy.

Hiked in November 2017. Short but steep - great views at the top.

Hiked in November 2017. We wandered among the unusual rock formations of Joshua Tree. Not really a hike, but part nature trail, part scramble. Take your first aid kit - if you are scrambling, the rocks are sharp!

Nicely groomed at the start but gets a bit more challenging as the climb progresses. The views along the way make it easier to keep going and the outstanding 360° vistas at the top justify the whole effort.

Easy trail to get lost on towards the end, I had my phone out with this app open the whole time trying to figure out which trail went where. Besides that, great views of the keystone thrust majority of the trail and some really neat, bright red rocky formations towards the end that I did not expect! Saw nobody else on the trail.

If you love climbing stairs you will love this trail! If you don't, do it anyway! The elevation gain is made even more strenuous by the fact that you're climbing rock stairs almost the entire way but the views are spectacular as you go and once you make it to the top you are rewarded with an awe-inspiring 360-degree view of the entire JTNP and beyond.

Beautiful, short trail with multi-colored rocks.

The views at the top are amazing!!! We went to watch the sunset and it was absolutely beautiful! We used trekking poles on the way up and they definitely helped on the way down. If you do go at sunset just pack accordingly with warmer gear. The temps drop quickly once the sun goes down and wind can be very chilly. A headlamp or flashlight would also be helpful on the way down. It took us about an hour or so to get up and about half that to get down however, we did run about a third of the way down.
