There was a lot of icy packed snow on 2/3 of the trail. I would suggest a little extra traction for your shoes. The trail has a great pay off at the end of the trail in the form of a beautiful view over Lost Lake.

Got to the trail at 8:30 on Sunday and there was plenty of parking. People were fighting for spots when I left around 11:30. Easy hike with good payoff. Be sure to walk all the way around the lake once you get there. Microspikes are a must for the climb to the lake.

very beautiful hike not so hard. there is several other lakes to hike as well.
parking was ok however it was in fall not summer. the road to the trail is not rough

Loved the lake! There was limited parking at the trail head with a dirt road to the trail head. I should have used snow boots/shoes. I went 10/16/18 and it was slushy with the top of the trail all snow and lake was frozen.

Beautiful hike, lots of scenery and mountains all around you covered in snow. Parking lot (due to road closure) is 3.5 miles away from the lake Isabelle trailhead, entire hike ends up being 12.5 miles. Lake Isabelle is completely frozen over and looks immaculate. Expect a 5 and half hour hike. I would arrive early to get the best views and temperatures.

I love this trail. I walk it a lot and love watching the changing foliage over the seasons. Sometimes you have to share the trail with bikers/

**there is a separate account for “winter” trail, but this is the first account most people go to** Beautiful hike the entire way. As someone else mentioned the road to Brainard Lake is closed. From parking and back we clocked a round trip of 12 miles to get to Lake Isabelle and back to parking lot. The trail had nice packed snow 90% of the way, the last part before the lake is a little slushy and muddy being exposed to sun which can cause it to be a little slick, so careful if you have some limitations. The lake was completely frozen on 10/20.

Just a heads up the road to Brainard Lake is closed for the season as of 10/15 so you have to park at the winter lot and hike the 2.5ish miles to the trailhead.

$11 day use fee, there are better places in the area with no fee and less crowded. The sign said something ambiguous about there being no fee during winter, so I watched a few others drive in without paying and assumed it must be winter. Trail was icy, used yaktrax. Snow was deep past Isabelle lake. I think you can park back a couple miles from the long lake TH and walk in for free.

This was a beautiful hike with varying difficulty in the trail throughout and lots of beautiful views along the way. we didn't make it to glacier lake but lake Isabelle was great!

Went on this hike back in 4/2017. It had a ton of snow which make it slippery and difficult but well worth it. The lake was frozen and beautiful! I highly suggest either going with no snow or wearing appropriate footwear! Would love to check it out again in the summer.

I loved the walk! It was easy and gave ya some work uphill. It was very very windy.. sometimes you can see the Elk and sometimes you can’t. Great for families with strollers!

We do a lot of hiking in Colorado, and for my entire family this is our favorite. It is extremely easy, and just shockingly beautiful the entire way. I can't think of a better place for a hike. We went on a Wednesday, arrived at the park about 7:05 in the morning, and there were only two parking places left. Arriving early and bug spray are both a must!

I was here Sept 24th and started at Brainard Lake and made my way a little passed Long lake before turning back. It was Chilly and windy at Brainard and once I got up to around Long lake it was Raining with some Snow mixed in so make sure you dress in appropriate Clothing and wear layers. It was a Monday when I was there and Only a Few Cars in the parking lot. Beautiful & short hike that I will definitely be back to do again!!!

Incredible views. Bring layers. Very windy by the lake

Good hike, did it with my 3 kids (10/8/6). Some great waterfalls to check out on the trail up to Lost Lake. Would recommend parking at the shuttle lot as parking is limited at the trail head. Trail to Lost Lake gets a little steep but nothing too bad. Had lunch up at the lake before heading back down.

Easy hike and busy on a Sat. Beautiful lake at the golden hour! Chilly at the top so bring layers.

So pretty the entire time!! Dog friendly & everyone had their dogs on a leash. Very appreciative of this.

I agree with Dixie!!!

Okay, here is my review-

Bathroom- YES, at start of hike
TRAIL- starts flat and gradually builds near side of mountain
Poop from wild animals/horses is on the trail...

My dog and friend’s dog loved this trail. The flat at start was great to warm it up and get started. The hike up the hill wasn’t too bad, but I did get sweaty. The top is gorgeous!!

Take a pic of the map, if you aren’t inclined to naturally know where you are. I’m glad I did, as it isn’t just a loop, there are other connecting paths you can do too.

There were many bikers, but they were nice. Super fun and not in the woods at all. It is nice to have a foothills climb and not be stuck amongst trees.

Two Dachshunds give eight paws up!!

Keep hiking to lake Isabelle if you’ve got time!

Not much water, but easily one of my favorite hikes in Colorado. Keep hiking up to Isabelle Glacier if you’ve got it in ya

overall this hike was very pretty, aspens were bright and the streams/lakes were great! the trail is all rocks, most smooth and loose so sometimes footing was sketchy (esp with excited dogs pulling!) but it was fine. It's kinda steep in spots, but took my time and did fine. My dachshund however did not appreciate steep rocky parts, but he was a trooper. It was extremely windy and chilly but it is definitely worth going all the way to the lake. Beautiful! not very crowded except for a few groups of people but mostly all to myself.
The best part of this hike was the descent! Almost walked past a moose and her calf next to the trail, they were so quiet. It was amazing!

It was a beautiful hike! Great pics. Very windy for an added chill but felt great. Fall colors starting. Would do it again.

Very easy trail, a few steep-ish climbs right before the lake. A lot of bang for your effort with fantastic views at the end. The lake is currently low due to the drought, but still an amazing sight. Watch for moose, as a bull lives here with his family - I actually saw the bull chase away some idiots with their unleashed dog.

The lake was low when we went in September, but it was still super beautiful. I've done this trail multiple times over the years and it's still one of my favorites. The top is windy, so bring a jacket!

Amazing views, easy hike! It’s on my favorites list now!

good hike, lake was a bit low. lovely views throughout the hike.

We did this trail last December. Ended up being about 13 miles round trip from where we had to park, but totally worth it. Gorgeous in the summer, but if you can brave it and don't mind the wind, do this in December-March. The snow makes the hike a good bit harder, but provides an unbelievable view once you reach the lake. Doing this again on 09/23 with the doggos this time!!

Great trail, lovely lake. If you are planning to camp, beware of the bear! Resident bear is GREAT at ripping your bear hang out of the trees. Bring a bear can for your food. The night I camped out, every site lost their food as the bear visited us one at a time. Shy enough to leave campers alone, but took out the entire branch our food was hanging off of and ate everything.

Arrived 7:15am on a Monday in September. Only 3-4 other cars in the lot and saw no one else on the trail until we hit Isabelle. Water level is low (drained)but it was still a worthwhile hike and there’s still a decent amount of water left. A lot more foot traffic heading up to the lake when we were heading out. Back at the parking lot at 10:30am and lot was full with cars circling to find a spot. Easy hike-the elevation gain comes right before the lake.
