Lake Waikaremoana is a Great Walk featuring notable points of interest such as Panekire Bluff, Korokoro Falls, numerous lake beaches, and massive native trees. The walk circumnavigates most of Lake Waikaremoana in the centre of Te Urewera National Park commonly done as a three to four day excursion. The journey starts out with a tough ascent but mellows out from, there. You can choose between 5 Huts and 5 Campsites along the route, see the map layers for more info, especially the AllTrails and OSM layers. This hike can be done in either direction. You will need to book accommodation in advance. Fees for Huts Adult (18+ years): $32 per night Child (17 years and under): free but booking still required Feed for Campsites Adult (18+ years): $14 per night Child (17 years and under): free but booking still required Water taxis and shuttle buses can be organized for doing this hike as a one way. Amazing hike! Did it as a day walk. It was 5 hours up to the hut (including many photo breaks!) and 3,5 hours down. First 2,5 hours is almost straight uphill, but the views are amazing! There is a junction about 3 hours in, to the right, to a look out point. Definitely the best spot of the whole hike.
