Gorgeous hike. There are now portapotties at the parking lot but they are pretty gross. Bring your own TP.
Nice lollipop if you take the alternate trail to Relay Peak Road and loop around that way back to the trailhead. Really nice hike through wildflower meadow. There is a small pond for a dip/wade - the dogs we passed were loving it.

Gorgeous. I went for a trail run and was happy with how runnable it was. Well marked

Do you need a permit to backpack overnight here? It would be great if AllTrails had a section with permit requirements for each trail.

Good solid grind going up. Still hazy but the view is still amazing. Bring water! I brought 3 liters and drank 1.5. Always have more then you think you’ll drink. Having less is horrible

this thing just kicked my ass. I'm not in great shape but was able to do it, but hardest hike I've ever done period!

Extraordinary hike which will keep your heart rate elevated for a couple hours. Trail leads you through breathtaking scenery and a variety of terrain. From woodland, through intimate shrubbery to dirt packed mountain and last but the least the last stretch up the big boulder climb only for the bold. Peak at 4k elevation offers a spectacular 360 view into the valleys and blue lakes. Inspired by the view you will find a green ammo box at peak where you can leave the deepest of your thoughts only to be read by those who conquer the Pyramid. Heading down do not let your guard down the boulders are unforgiving. Kicking up dust while hiking back to your car, ham strings, calf’s and glutes begin to anticipate the comfort of your car seats. Driving home exhausted but still alive you will be feeling a sense of accomplishment because you just conquered a difficult trail! Have fun and stay safe fellow hikers.

Really great if youre looking for a challenge for a beginner hiker!

Nice hike. Easy for the most part. I did this hike on 8/4. it was very smoky that morning but by the time I got up to the start of the hike which was just under 9000 feet the smoke wasn’t really affecting me but it did affect the views.
It does start to incline shortly after the waterfall but no steep parts. its a pretty gradual incline even the switchbacks aren’t very steep. only difficulty really is elevation if your not used to it.
it was super windy at the top. about a half mile before I got to the summit the wind gusts were so strong they nearly knocked me off my feet a few times.
but once you get to the summit there are some rocks you can sit behind which blanket from the wind. if there wasn’t so much smoke it would’ve been a beautiful view. total hike took just under four hours that was with the rest stops to take pictures and lunch at the summit.

Easy hike to waterfall but not so easy to the summit, beautiful and worth it!

Excellent trail! Easy start to warmup and then kicks up at waterfall around 2.5 mile mark. Last mile is a beast but very rewarding.

It’s very smokey now. Air is dirty and views are limited. Hopefully better very soon.

Great hike to the top, even greater hike to reach Lake Aloha from the peak. We parked at the Pyramid Creek trial head and started to trek towards the Pyramid Peak trail. Took us a few hours to reach the summit. Views were awesome cept for all the smokiness. From the top of the peak we started climbing down going north west toward lake Aloha and man oh man did the hike get tougher. Your climbing down nothing but loose boulders for the longest time. There were some areas were you can slide down the snow and refill your water from the fresh snow melt. Took us 4hrs to get to Lake Aloha but it was worth it.

Summited the peak today (7/30) with my dogs, started Monday off right. Certainly an uphill battle. The hike it’s self isn’t enjoyable but the summit has great views, would be better if it wasn’t so smoky. The rock scramble to the top is as easy as walking up stairs... both my dogs followed with ease. If you don’t plan on summiting, don’t bother with the hike.

Awesome trail. The meadows are amazing. We had a gallon and a half of water between three and it was enough, but we didn't go all the way to the top.

Difficult but rewarding. The beginning of the trail has a very steep grade. The final ascent to the summit includes climbing up large boulders that require high focus to maneuver over safely. The view from the top is absolutely amazing. The entire trip took approximately 5 hours with occasional breaks along the way.

Nice mix of terrain but not much shade and can get hot, lakes and creek are nice place to cool off. On my trip to Island Lake we didn't see a lot of places to easily relax by the lake but we didn't explore all around the lake either. As others have stated, picking up the trail on the granite sections may be more difficult for newer hikers.

Climbed to the rocky peak without any difficulty. So Smokey at top due to Yosemite fire could barely see the lakes below.
Ran into very large rattle snake on trail. 11 rattles.
Climbed Whitney 2 days later.

beautiful hike. my 79 year old dad found the trail a little tough though, lots of rocky sections. also is more like 5+ miles, 5 according to the sign and 6 according to my GPS.

Fantastic hike. I recommend for experienced hikers only.

There appears to be wide variance as to the distance of this hike. From the start on route 50 to the peak was 3.7 miles on our garmin watch so 7.4 round trip. We parked right under the digital “chain up” overhead sign between twin bridges and strawberry on the south side of 50 then walked 100 meters up the road and found the trail, there are many “access” points from the road follow them all uphill and within the first 50 meters they all become one obvious trail. This is not the trail from the pyramid creek trailhead, but rather an unmarked trail direct to pyramid peak. Enjoy a ton up in 3.7, took us a little less than 2:30 to the top well worth the effort !

Very challenging trail but worth it. Starts off with a bang for first mile, eases up for second mile, and ends with difficult final two miles including rock scramble to the peak. Get to the peak for wonderful views. Going back down is a little easier but still no bargain. Start early and allow 5+ hours.

hard but rewarding trail.

In response to the review "no facilities and services", I don't think you should have to expect any since it's only 2.3 miles in, it's dispersed camping, and there are facilities within 2 miles each direction from the trailhead. Trail is easy to follow if you use the AllTrails app; I literally just took a snapshot of the trail since I don't have the pro version. If you think you're getting off trail - yes, it may get a little confusing going over the rocks - look for the stacks of stones and the dirty part of the rock where people drag their shoes through....you don't need mountaineering experience. Anyway, nice trail, not much elevation gain. We camped there 2 weekends ago from a Saturday to Sunday and still only saw 3 or 4 other campers. Only advice is to please not camp close to the water even though someone else has cleared space to. The campers closest to us were only 15 ft from the water, did not leash their 2 dogs, and had a campfire. They were friendly enough, and quiet, but still...RESPECT THE RULES OF THE FOREST!

Beautiful lake, fun to swim, few mosquitoes and leeches. Great trail to get your kids into backpacking!

We hiked to and above the waterfall. The wildflowers were pretty, especially in the meadow trail near the waterfall (direction of Mt. Rose Summit). Lots of hiking options from the trailhead. The hike was easy/moderate. The terrain was chaparral, some trees, but not a forested area.

Great hike overall. The first 3.5ish miles are pretty level and pleasant to hike along. It's a little after the waterfall that the incline begins and then it's a mostly uphill hike the rest of the way. The incline never gets too bad though. Views from the top are great, even with the smoke from the fires.
Bring lots of water. There's lots of parking at the trailhead, just be mindful that the restrooms are closed (for maintenance).

This hike involves waterfalls, wildflowers, and butterflies. There are beautiful views the entire walk. Restrooms are not available at the trailhead. We needed more water than we normally do on this sunny July day. We saw others that were out of water as well.

Great hike with beautiful wildflowers and butterflies. It took about 4.5 hours with 30 min up on the summit (plus 1.5mile detour to explore).
And restrooms at trailhead are closed, so plan accordingly :)

Great, easy going trail! Trail was very easy to follow. Expect to see a lot of traffic on the trail but everyone was polite!

This was a really beautiful hike but I thought the trail could have been market better. We somehow veered left somewhere on the tail and ended up very lost and had to climb up a lot of rocks to get back to the trail. If you don’t get lost, this trail is great and the lake at the top is very refreshing on a warm day!

The last mile to the summit was the hardest and the winds near the top were relentless, but the view was amazing at the top and so was the view along the whole trail. Lots of wildflowers and butterflies. The waterfall is a great destination for someone who doesn't want to hike all the way to the summit. Make sure to hike to the top of the waterfall for a great view too. The restrooms at the trailhead were closed.
