Hiking

Hiked with Dan and Samson for winter credit. Trail is grinned by snowmobiles to the summit. Saw 2 snowmobiles going down as we were going up...we got off to the side and they rode by slowly. No need for snowshoes cuz you’re not gonna post hole. Nice views from the top.

Hiking

Honest review. I feel like this was more of a walk than a hike. Parked in the parking lot. Walked in on the snow mobile trail which didn’t know that was there. Once we got to the foot trail, no challenge other than ice so we wore micro spikes and faired just fine. Way shorter and quicker than we anticipated. However, beautiful and clear views at the top where we sat and glassed for a little bit. Overall, very easy (I feel like I was actually over prepared) but worth the nice views

Went out and back via the red trail. Trail was very visible and nicely packed down. I used snowshoes about half way but you could probably get to the top with just spikes.

Was a great morning hike. Definitely suggest if snowshoeing to use the blue trail. I went up via red trail with a couple difficulties closer to the top. Red trail and very up down blue trail is a smoother assent.

Went pretty quick over Sleeping beauty so decided to do Erebus. The bushwhacked to top kicked my butt but worth it.

Snowshoeing

We ended up using the blue trail both directions. We missed the turnoff for the red trail as the main path continues with red trail markers!! Still the extra distance was welcome, and a good workout as you broke through a layer of ice on the snow with every step. We used snowshoes... worth it! The views were amazing!

SnowshoeingGreat!

First time at Buck Mountain! It was a beautiful trail wore my snowshoes the whole time, they were definitely needed. Beautiful weather as well very clear skies yesterday and could see for miles at the top. Love the look of frozen Lake George! Definitely want to do this again when the weather gets warmer.

HikingGreat!IcySnow

A nice trip to Beauty's summit, out to Fishbrook Pond and back out. Better than expected views and ledges/rocks to summit were beautiful in ice/snow. Trail mostly packed snow/snowmobile trail with a few icy spots near summit. Microspikes were perfect. Carried snowshoes but never needed. Road in to Darcy Clearing was open and we made it in with good aggressive tires and 4WD. On way in had to pull over for someone being towed out, so only attempt the drive in from Shelving Rock Rd to Darcy Clearing if confident in your tires, ground clearance, and driving ability.

HikingGreat!

Gorgeous winter hike and both mountains offer amazing views. But the portion between Cat and Thomas is difficult and a bit treacherous in spots. Wonderful hike.

Hiking

Very pretty trail and with a great payoff for a moderate amount of work! Especially compared to Buck Mountain in the same area that is harder and with less of a view at the top. The only thing that took away from it for me was the first 2ish miles of the trail is mainly a snowmobile track, which they are respectful and wat h out for people, but essentially feels like walking along a road instead of a trail. Everything else is great!!

Yaktrax or snow shoes will help a lot, but not strictly necessary I guess. All the snow was packed which helped, but this was still tough on the way up. Beautiful open views and not a lot of people.
