Lovely hike, very easy until Rifugio Menaggio, an ideal mountain hut & restaurant to stop and have a wonderful meal with a breathtaking lake view 1000 meters above Lake Como. From here it is an interesting trail to the summit of Mt Grona, with steep switchbacks on a narrow trail path in the upper part. Not dangerous, just a nice feeling of higher mountain terrain. You don’t have to come down the same way, in fact I’d recommend walking down a bit northeast into the saddle to make the loop back to Rifugio Menaggio, as you can figure out from the map. Enjoy!!

being a Florida flat-lander, this was an uphill slog! It was a 2200' climb over 3 1/2 miles to the peak, then down 200' to the views. the views are spectacular of Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna and Lake Como. I downhill portion was pretty treacherous. there is a lot of gravel and scree, so slipping is a hazard. lots to see along the way, trenches, a church, a cross, some old houses and ruins. the trail in not well marked. a spring water pipe about halfway up.

Amazing views. Steep climb in areas, great for trail jogging, good workout. Once I got to the highest elevation I could not continue down trail to the church since it was overgrown. I attempted to break through with large stick but I could not go any further. Still worth it as you have great views on the way up. Coming back I attempted to go down back way as I was staying south of starting point, but it looked like private property with electrical fence for cows.

Brilliant trail. Completed up and down in around 3.5 hours. Clearly marked. Really beautiful views! Couple of scrambling bits and a great summit! ♥️

Nice trail with some great views. There are two ways up. Avoid the way that takes you through people’s backyard farms with annoying barking dogs. Stick to the main route that is all stone and lined with 14 alters along the way. Great views with a wonderful small church lookout at the end. The church is rarely open but still worth the effort.

Beautiful hike. Trail is ancient river cobblestone and well maintained. Church only open 3 days per year but hike is recommended.

strenuous for first 2 miles, around 750-800 ft climbed per mile but well worth the views. from San Martino you have access to a network of trails connecting peaks and cities.

Lots of rocky uphill, but it was all well worth it for the amazing views at the top! The beginning of the trail is at the base of the the ski area, and follows a paved path up to the ski area restaurant for the first bit, then becomes a rocky wide path. After the first mile or so it evens out a little bit more.

Beautiful trail! I did not get to the top, ran out of time & it required some scrambling up rocks for .5 km at the summit. It started raining on the way down!

Hike surpassed expectations. Very scenic drive there and walk up. Be prepared for very steep inclines and beautiful and amazing views of both snow covered mountains and lake como. Trail was in good shape and well marked. Also would suggest paying the 3 euro parking fee to drive up toward trailhead to avoid less exciting hiking.

This is a nice trail with an amazing view point, however would say it’s easy rather than moderate. Ideal for a dog walk or a family walk with slightly older children.

The start is pretty steep but starts to get easier about 1/3 of the way up. Certainly worth the climb for the views at the top.

It was somewhat challenging but worth the effort. I would recommend it to those over 75, like myself who enjoy walking and hiking for exercise
