Fun, easy hike that ends in a beautiful waterfall; not too many people. I parked off the road and hiked down on the trail which was scenic but its a single track trail so watch/listen for bikers. I especially had to be careful because I had my dog on a leash. For some it may be best to park in the lot by the campground. All in all a great way to get in some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

Nice hike, really get a workout in with some of the elevation.

If you park all the way down the hill at the campsite, then walk through the site, the sign from the campsite says that the falls are only 0.5 miles away, making the whole trip from your car and to the falls and back a flat, short, hike of just a little over 1 mile. We went on a Wednesday afternoon and only ran into a few other hikers as well as had the falls to ourselves. I liked how there were pamphlets on the local birds available to take from the info board in the parking lot. We saw the last of the fall color, some squirrels, and beautiful, clear, water since it had rained a week prior. If you’d like a short hike and are okay with crossing some streams, this little hike is very beautiful and time well spent.

Burned our.

Ew.

You’ll enjoy this hike if you like hikes that are completely overcrowded, not in nature, behind peoples houses, stepping over hundreds of dog shits that didnt get picked up, annoying / crying kids, no elevation gain, people playing music from their phones and mini speakers, watching people slowly struggle over a creek 2 inches deep holding their babies or small dogs lol, etc.

Avoid at all costs

Phone read 4.00 miles in 1:00:40 with 596 ft elevation gain, and I hung out at the falls for 10-15 minutes. Extremely mild hike other than a couple water crossings and a “steep” section near the falls. Falls were great a couple days after a hard rain.

Easy, fun and beautiful. I’ll go back in a Heartbeat ❤️

Great easy trail, very populated during weekends.

Go early to avoid the crowds! This was a great solo hike on a Sunday morning. I took a beat at the waterfall to do some writing, which was lovely until a chubby kid took his shirt off, started yell-singing the milkshake song and then jumped in the water. Which he somehow didn’t expect to be cold. You can try to get out of LA, but you’ll never truly escape :)

Really nice, small, waterfall for very little effort. The hike up through the creek is great. You weave to either side of the flowing creek. The creek has a nice shallow flow, with crystal clear water. You're in the shade almost the entire time. Would def come back during the summer.

This hike can probably be accessed from Milliard Camp parking lot a bit further down the road, since the GPX route takes you right through Milliard Camp anyway. This might be better idea for some, as the section between the marked parking area and Milliard Camp is single track and is accessed by a LOT of mountain bikers. We were there early Sat morning and prob had about 20+ bikers passed us.

nice little fun trail.

My favorite local trail! Beautiful view and mostly shaded.

Easy quick hike. Stayed awhile taking pics. Towards the end u have to go to the right and the heart rock is at the bottom.

Such a beautiful and easy hike!!!!

My phone showed 7.1 miles with 1870 feet of elevation gain in 2 hours 5 minutes. Extra distance came from having to park 1/4 mile from the trailhead and doubling back on myself near Dawn Mine. Chatted with a couple near the mine who was also turned around. Noticed another review mentioning signs where you don’t need them and no signs where you do. I’ll second that. Dawn Mine Trail side crisscrosses the creek a number of times. Sunset Trail side simply switchbacks in a hillside.

If you’re going on a weekend make sure to go early. It get packed real quick. Went 2 days after it rained and there was a lot less mud than I expected. Very beautiful hike.

Went hiking today, super easy hike. Great for kids too!! The falls was beautiful ✨

This is a good hike for those who enjoy a little bit of a challenge as a lot of the trail is steep and narrow. The dawn mine itself was quite disappointing as you can’t see anything but steel bars with a small canon out front. The trail is NOT obvious and you need to pay attention if you don’t want to get lost. Signs were available when you didn’t need it and absent when you did. The lot at the trail head is super small, but there is a bigger lot a mile down at Millard Canyon.

I did this hike for a geography class, it was pretty, heavily trafficked though. The waterfall was beautiful.

It took me 4hrs including snack time. Being a fast hiker, I am wondering other hikers took them only 2 or 3 hrs. Beautiful scenery from the top area, but sad to see too many majestic trees fell down because of drought. And wonderous to see the stream still survive to flow. Recommend though it is not a easy course. Alltrails app is a lot of help to find right trail direction. Thank Alltrails.

My favorite trail. Find the 9 openings to the dawn mine

Glad to mark this 1 of the list but won't do again, mostly because of the crowds. Too many loud kids, music blasters & ill-prepared walkers. The lower parking lot was open on 11/25/18. From here it's no more than 1.25 miles round trip. From the upper lot & road parking there is a lot of steep road walking that wouldn't be worth the effort.

We took our 4 year old and it was an easy hike for all of us. Went on black friday. Crowd was average and we did not have any problems finding parking. The creek has very less water at this time of the year, so there was no waterfall near the heart rock. Nevertheless, a beautiful hike through the forest. The heart rock itself is fascinating to view. Would love to go again in spring.

The hike is 4.4 miles, not 3.5 It gets busy so go early. Lots of path finding through piles of rocks, and a couple of easy water crossings. The falls were light but nice to watch.

I like the trail. Very convenient and just right about the length. There are a few rocky roads need more attention. We did it after the training in the evening and really fresh air

Easy hike and great for young kids. Very crowded and many aggressive dogs off leashes.

Done this one several times. Though it's best in late winter and spring because the water flow is stronger, it also makes for a greatsummer hie because it is 80 percent shaded and mostly easy climbing, when there is climbing. There is a section in he middle that gets a little steep, with some cliff exposure, but it is short. If you or your children are afraid of heights, you may want to avoid this one.

Easily accessible and an easy-to-moderate hike means lots of people and dogs. Go early to avoid owners letting their dogs run amuck etc. With all the wild fires raging, it’s nice to know there can still be a safe trail to hike within easy reach from the city. The water volume is pretty low now due to the late season, but there is still a small water fall to reward the hike.
