Good walk with a climb. Along a stream for a good part of it with some cool old structures and lots of rock.
Wear good shoes

Really amazing trail. Many for the in-depth information posted here and the ribbons/yellow paint markers along the way!

Thoroughly enjoyed this hike! We arrived around 7:50am, which was perfect for parking. The scenery was incredible and there were a couple of challenging moments but overall pretty easy and chill. To be honest, we were a bit confused at certain forks in the trail, but that’s just because it was our first time. Will definitely return!

We absolutely loved this hike. The trail up is beautiful with the landscape changing as ones ascends. We stopped by the Ski Hut and met the gracious hosts, Dave and June. They kindly gave us a tour of the hut and gave some fascinating history. Can you believe they still carry bags of concrete and supplies up there in order to maintain the cabin. I highly recommend a visit to the hut or make a reservation with the Sierra Club to stay a few nights up there. -The summit- The views are amazing with 360 degrees of scenery, lots of picture taking. Still some patches of snow, but none on the trail. The way back down the loop was a little rough with some slippery loose rock, we saw a few falls, but everyone was fine. After the slippery rocks came the Devils Backbone with more amazing views. Then came a long boring road right after the ski lift but it was a nice way to stretch our legs after 2 days of back to back hiking. We enjoyed this hike so much we will definitely do it again. Maybe even camp next time.

The was a beautiful hike. I loved being able to enjoy both the mountains and the water, the view was gorgeous the entire hike! Bonus-looking at the ruins of the old mansion that was burned down during fires and a small waterfall. We saw a lovely group of deer up on the mountains which was a pleasant surprise! Will definitely go back again! Moderate Hike with some steady inclines (we did the loop).

Very beautiful and scenic trail in Malibu. Parking is really hard to find in the designated trail parking area. However, you can find “precarious parking” just 2-3 minutes from the trail entrance. If you want to park “precariously”, don’t enter the road that leads to the initial parking. Continue going up on the road you entered from the Pacific Coast Highway. Other than parking, this is a beautiful and relaxing hike. Not intense at all. The Rising Sun trail does have a pretty steep incline, but definitely doable.

Take the alternative loop back instead of simply turning around at the waterfall. It’s a challenge but you WON’T regret it! The views are incredible. Be on the lookout as this is a natural reserve and rattlesnakes (as well as others) reside here.

this hike was stunning The Greenery was unbelievable and the waterfall was the Coupe de gras an easy hike it's a must for beginners we will definitely come back again

April 14 up the backbone and down ski hut, no snow on the trail.

Great hike the only down side is that parking is very limited especially on weekends, get there by 6!

Beautiful and relaxing. It’s definitely an easy hike. Great for kids and dog friendly. Saw a couple of quails running on the trail for a while. So close to Malibu Seafood for after hike lunch.

Great hike , get there early parking is limited. We parked 1/4 mile down hill. Mostly shaded hike, not much to the waterfall. The last part of hike coming back is all uphill so be prepared. Will definitely be back.

I was wrong! Just a short walk to the store and the Goats! Then on to the falls. Happy

I’m walking up and down the road. The park at 9 was Completely full. They said get here by 6 on weekend. still great!
I’ll make Thursday my hiking day

beautiful scenery. be prepared for the long haul!

Easy and lovely

my husband and I went on a spontaneous hike up the trail yesterday. Since it was spur of the moment, we weren't as prepared as we should've been with proper footwear and gear, but we stopped at the one mile marker and came back down so it wasn't bad. so beautiful and serine I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's a beginning hiker or even an experienced one. The trails can get slightly narrow at points and the rocks are tough to walk on (especially in the wrong footwear

No snow on the trail left on April 8; just a few patches off to the sides. That last steep mile from the bowl to the summit is brutal. I took a few long breaks to sketch the landscape, different all the time and, was back down by 2 pm.

Hike was great. My kiddos had an amazing time. Dog was also enjoying nature. Will definitely do it again.

love it! been hiking the Griffith park trails since I was a baby.

Took the other way from the waterfall, it was a struggle going up the mountain if you don’t have the correct shoes and take lots of water. The view was amazing and I had a great time with my girls! I’m planning on going again to the other side to where the waterfall is at! Great hike

One of the best hikes in Malibu; moderately difficult, great scenery and views
