Moderate climb to a steady hike. Quite busy. Go early!

Karla Gomez has no idea what a review encompasses. It's unfortunate that it's closed due to the recent fires but by no means does it diminish the beauty of it. It's a neat little trail with ample shade and plenty to look at.

currently closed due to high risk fire season

Had to learn to pace myself when running this trail. Good hills, nice views, overall had a lot of fun.

Trail closed due to fires right now

Great trail. Lightly trafficked, don’t really run into too many other people. Take lots of water. By far the best trail at Topanga State Park.

Very easy hike. Very packed on weekends. Plenty of shade. Bathrooms at trailhead were clean. Plenty of parking. The only reason for a three star rating was due to how many people were on the trail.

Really pretty, not very challenging, and cool rocks to climbs around in at the end!

Fun trip, until I encountered a big brown bear blocking the road when I was getting back. it was getting dark and had to wait until it went away. The bear was not scared of me or all the noise I was making.

Nice hike, with much needed shade. Watch your step, don't be like me who talks more than pays attention to whats in front of him

Power.
8 mile cycle each way from Marina - which makes the hike harder on your legs, otherwise the hike doesn’t burn that much. Lots of people around - less so when you break the loop to the top of Skull Rock. The small loop is one for the kids for sure.

This hike was a good workout! There was a lot of nice layers to the trail too. You feel like you go through a forest, then you take the trail to the top where you go through the canyons, rugged trails, and eventually the rock formations which you can climb and relax on. I especially liked the sunset trail portion of the hikes which loops all the way back to the parking lot if you take the skull rock route in the beginning.

Definitely bring a good amount of water as the hike is roughly 4.5 miles.

A lot of people, good views - but take a quieter one, or not weekends.

Moderate intensity but views are totally worthy! We started at 10:00 am and was a little hot. I recommend to start earlier, because the round trip takes about 4 hours if you stop to take pictures and the sun is really strong while going back. Otherwise, amazing!!!

weird to see the graffiti and smokers but it's a good hike with kids.

This is a very enjoyable hike. The only downside is that the elevation climb is on the way back but quite doable. There are some wonderful fall colors going on right now and there is water flowing over the waterfall which is not that common in the San Gabriels this time of year. If you wish to reach the waterfall, make certain you take the Buckhart Trail split (go to the right) when you reach the PCT. The falls are not much further down the trail.

We intended to hike on the Half Knob Trail but we could not find the trail. As a result, we ended up hiking on the Windy Gap Trail which was very well marked and maintained. Great views. We followed the trail only to the Mt. Hopkins Overlook Rd.

Loved it!! Such an amazing peaceful place

STUNNING hike! Like most people, I just did the out-and-back version to skip the fire road. At the peak, there are so many boulders to explore around-- felt like a kid again! Beautiful views, beautiful mountains, beautiful trees, very removed and serene atmosphere.

WAY too crowded. Too many people. Dog crap everywhere and no one picks it up. Trash and crap graffiti. People on the trail don’t have etiquette and will block the whole trail and go slow. Won’t allow others to pass. Waterfall is unimpressive.

October 22: Solo’d to the waterfall and only one wrong turn.

Good Socal hike with great views of the mountains.

It is a good hike overall, but not great. The length is recorded more of a 3.8 mile hike.

Initial descent is steep and on a road for the first 3/4 mile. From there it’s dirt roads/trails.

Several other hikers along the trail, one of which warned of a rattle snake ahead on the trail.

Unfortunately we got to the end and there was no water at the falls. Definitely a disappointment, but just no rain recently to provide the spectacle.

This is a relatively easy hike but, as other reviewers have mentioned, it's very crowded on the weekends

This is your go-to family friendly hike. Be sure to arrive early as parking spots fill up quickly. (I suggest arriving around 8 am unless you want to hike to the trailhead) You will need an Adventure pass. You could purchase a day permit near the trailhead for 5 dollars, make sure you have it in cash. Have fun!

Steady incline and amazing views of the ocean! Not very shaded but good for an overcast day

It’s horrible here on the weekend... Lots of trash, dog poop, people making out and people smoking! Never on the weekend again!
