Had a fun great ride on our Mtn. Bikes from the Hoover Dam Lodge, where we were staying, over to the Dam (Aug. 18th). We started at sunrise as it was still in the mid 80s at that time in the morning. It was a neat ride & we got some great pics of the Lake, tunnels, & Dam for our FB page. We had plenty of water in our Camel Back packs & on returning back to the Hotel that early in the morning we had a significant amount of shade. Looking forward to coming back to this area to ride other trails after September ‍♀️‍♂️

Gorgeous View...

Nice easy hike. Good for people who are trail runners. The trail can have high traffic, since it's a popular one.

The trailhead is easy to miss as it's basically a pull off area right next to the road. The beginning of the trail is well marked and easy to follow. A sign says it's a 1.5 mile in and out trail. I'm not sure where the trail actually ends. It went from wide enough for two people to more and more narrow. Eventually I think we were blazing our own trail. The well defined portion of the trail was long enough that you could still get a nice walk in without having to make your own trail. We walked all the way to the base of the mountain. Despite the lack of defined trail, I would certainly give this trail again.

favorite local walkabout

I live minutes away so I’ve gotten a chance to hike this trail numerous times. I love it. It’s not too close to the city, but not too far either. You get an amazing view of Las Vegas and it’s a fairly easy trail. There’s a trail that faces the city, which is a more inclined trail and will have you out of breathe for a minute. But not anything too bad. The trail on the other side is perfect if you want an easy and fast trail. There is also the actually Lone Mountain Park which is right there. It’s a nice park, not too crowded, has a basketball courts, playgrounds, and a large grass area and walking/biking trail. I absolutely love Lone Mountain.

The hike was very horizontal and not suitable for any temperature other than a morning climate. Overall, though, the sights were breathtaking, and it was definitely worth my time.

Loved this trail. Fun boulder scrambling in mid Dec. A fav, for sure. Definitely doable. Hot springs more muddy than expected. Trail depends upon a beautiful scenic view of Lake Mead.

Challenging and fun.. very little shade, but I knew it would given it is Vegas.. Trail isn’t marked too welll...

Simply awesome to climb. Views were amazing however, Vegas was a bit smogged over but that did not take away from the experience.

Súper súper nice walk. For my fiancé and I

Loved this trail and wish it wasn't so far from Los Angeles. Having grown used to riding the San Gabriels, where you pedal up for several miles and are rewarded with amazing descents, this was a welcome, but challenging change. Skyline starts off with a short climb and then winds it's way up and down flowy single track surrounded by amazing views. The trail has something to offer anyone who enjoys xc mountain biking: occasional rock gardens, small drops, burmed twists through forrested trails and switch-backed hillsides. I'm not used to riding at such a high elevation, nor riding over constant rollers, so the trail did leave me a little winded by the end, but definitely looking forward to visiting it again soon!

As a side note: I parked at Aspen Picnic area and rode through town to the trail head at the top of Club View Drive to make it a loop. I imagine it could be done as an out and back if you have that much time and energy.

Awesome trail, we took the upper bristlecone trail and headed farther up the mountain following bonanza then hit what is labeled as “old bristlecone trail” on the way back. It wasn’t as maintained as the upper trail but was stunning and had shade the whole way back. It was an amazing 8 mile hike going around that route

The first half was easy. And very enjoyable. The second half the trail pretty much disappeared. Loose rocks and scrambling. The long slope to the top was very boring and dull. it's a very hard walk bushwacking with no trail. After I was done I could have kicked myself and should have done a more scenic hike around the red rocks. But I made it to the top.

Excellent hike. Be prepared with lots of water, especially during the summer months; drink plenty before. Fun scrambling/boldering on parts of the hike. Beautiful view at the top, be sure to go to the left after going through the tank.

Absolutely gorgeous. We got deviated just a bit from the trail a couple of times but it ended up actually being 7.92 miles instead. The climb up thru the canyon took awhile but the views were amazing and loved the pain of the upward climb.

amazing views over the valley.

This is a great option for an evening hike now that the weather is warming up. Never too busy, a nice trail that isn't too tough but is variable enough to be interesting. Climbing to the top of the knoll gives a surprisingly good view for such a little hill. Doing the loop and going around the back of the knoll is great, green and cool and with a little bit of water in the stream from the recent rains. Definitely definitely recommend for a nice peaceful hike.

Great trail, basically a walking tour of Red Rock. I've done it clockwise and counterclockwise and don't really have a a preference on which is the "better" way to travel the loop. Clockwise gets the "boring" Jeep trail out of the way and leaves the scenic Calico portion for the end. Counterclockwise gives you a great scenic start and ends with an easier return on the Jeep trail. Can't go wrong either way. Pretty easy to follow, can get a little hard to find the trail when it intersects with the trailheads but nothing too frustrating. Definitely recommend waiting for cooler weather to do this hike.

I'm from Vegas and my sister and I would do this hike a couple times every summer. If it's in the summer, though, you should make sure to get an early start because there's no tree cover until you get to the slope of the actual mountain and even then, it's just some short and pretty sparse junipers. The hike is long and the "trail" becomes less defined as you get closer to the slope of the mountain, so my sister and I would usually end up taking whichever route we wanted that given day, often the wash that was still shaded by the peak. The view at the top isn't great just because visibility isn't great, but otherwise, getting to the top feels pretty good. I would recommend this hike to anyone, just make sure you bring plenty of water!

Awesome hike. Did this on Black Friday and it was still pretty warm outside. All of the ropes used to help you go down or up seemed to be in good shape. The view of the river and the dam/bridge is a great backdrop to a lunch break.

We've done this twice on bikes and would do it again any day or night. Perfect views of lake mead and the tunnels are great. At the end there a a restroom, water fountain, and picnic table with gazebo. Perfect first date destination.

beautiful waterfall at the end. very hard to find the entrance. We have done this two years in a row and its one of our fav spots. We spent the whole day down there. There was no waterfall this year, but still a pool and gorgeous scenery. We did this with two kids, ages 5 and 7. They did great.

Hot in July but great views

We went in early November and the aspen trees were on point! A nice hike for the kiddos too.

Been a few years since I hiked this trail. It was my first hike in a long time so I found out real quick that I was out of shape (even though I was 7% body fat). I went home exhausted and burnt from the lack of shade and poor preparation, but it was the beginning of a hiking/climbing journey. Since then, I’ve hiked and climbed all over the country!

This is one of my favorite trails when I want to get in a short hike.

This trail is well worth the work. Make sure to bring plenty of water though!

Great hike with awesome views! did the upper and lower for the 5.6 mile loop. Next time we plan to just hike the upper out and back to stay in the shade more.

Fantastic trail. A little harder then described but well worth it despite the 102°F weather. Just stay hydrated!
